I will Jaw the Metal tonight.

If I can say something for my own personal preference, I'd rather not have anything that is overtly and blatantly 40k-ish. No crazy-temples, no blood magic, no magic space rocks, etc, etc.

Warpstone isn't WH 40k but vanilla fantasy War Hammer.

They are magic ground rocks now deal with it! Although I think Warpstone only exists with harder mining enabled, so we can disable it without too much harm.

Just don't expect anything to come of building a warpstone lab, since you won't get the main ingredient to use. tongue

Yay, glad to see that things are back in action! I read all of the last two threads over the course of the last couple months, and I was pretty sad because it looked like the thread was dead at the time that I finished. I'll definitely check back more often now that I know things have been picked back up.

I'm not nearly skilled enough at DF to try a turn (for now anyway, unless we're really hurting for people who have the ability to take turns at all), but could I possibly get dwarfed? I'd prefer an engraver (if you still have any need for them, that is). Gender is honestly irrelevant.

Anyway, to contribute to the conversation at hand, Masterwork mod has some sort of magic system, right? Is that going to be left on as well?

The thing with 'disabling' most of the extra features is they are not quite fully disabled. That was the other glitch I forgot. I could still rade for magic tomes and dwarves still cast magic.

Warpstone still shows up with the stuff turned off. Nothing wrong with using it. If you don't want to use it, then dont use it.

There are other fun things to use though like guns and golems.

No, no, the problem with Warpstone isn't using it. It's the damage it does to dwarves who step on it. If it's unstable it can make them drowsy and weak. I don't know if it kills, but it doesn't help.

The workaround would be building a masons' guild and enrolling EVERYONE in it. Or avoiding the stuff like the plague.

ETA: Third workaround . . . channel through the floors and dig out the walls, and Construct floors over the holes you leave.

Or far more simple build blocking wall around warpstone. The vast majority of dwarves won't have to worry about warpstone exposure.

It really isn't that big of a deal. You dig some up block it off so they can't come into contact with it. Same way we handle other hazards. Pit or wall it off.

As far as I know switching off harder (insert thing thing) here deals with that problem just fine.

If stepping on it is the issue couldn't you just floor it over and skip the part with digging out a pit? Or does the game "remember" that there was warpstone there? Masterwork doesn't play well with my computer for some weird reason so I never really played with it much.

You may have a few too many things turned on or in some cases not turned on.

It may remember unless you wall it off to prevent direct contact. But if you switch off the "harder" options it isn't an issue. You can still find, process, and use warpstone but it is less of a pain to encounter.

...and then Condorito was put in charge, and everything went to pot.

To this day, it is unknown where he got the Stick. Armok knows that he had no skill in creating anything wooden - just armor and some masonry. But almost as soon as Ringsea finally threw her hands up in disgust, Condorito was there. Waving around a stick whose craftsdwarfship was of the highest quality. On the stick there were runes. The runes spelled AUTHORITY. On the stick there were pictures of a dwarf and dwarves. The dwarves were bowing to the dwarf.

The stick menaced with spikes of pitchblende.

Those who were not dressed head to toe in adamantine got thwacked, and did what they were told. Those that were dressed head to toe in the godsmetal just looked confused, but mostly did was he demanded just to get away from the spittle.

It is said that power corrupts, and absolute power is even more Fun.

The first decrees seemed reasonable enough: quit brewing pig tails, make enough adamantine armor for the squads (which rapidly depleted the adamantine stores), to stop making slabs and start making coffers for the rooms.

Then, things begin to get a bit...odd.

He declared every animal that desired grass to be butchered. He babbled strange and unsettling things about the sun, and once again, it was deemed easier to acquiesce than to be smacked by The Stick. He demanded that the last of the large, serrated green glass disks be deployed in traps, and ravenously demanded more. When it was pointed out that they will not affect anybody in armor, he merely giggled slightly. We deployed the traps.

Afterwards, he decreed that everybody should be proficient as hunters, and that everybody should be given crossbows, and be required to carry them at all times. He muttered something about Urist Mc Heinlein, and calmly stated that it will all make sense once we stop wearing clothes.

Spring has arrived.

It was shortly after Zuglar Vucaril went crazy and claimed a jewler's shop, creating Bonunzuden Romkegdoth, the pipe opal floodgate, that the depths of Condorito's madness was revealed. A plan to create a labyrinth to the north of the entrance, large enough that any sized seige would be caught in the workings. And then, as soon as the last of the enemies were inside, the gates would be closed, trapping them in. And the floodgate to the magma pipe would open.

Magma Con Carne.

Like all great and ambitious plans, it was destined to fail. But in the face of such overwhelming ambition, could you truly blame us? We are but dwarves, our lives are spent toiling, honing our craft, for the single moment of perfection in our arts.

It was, and is, heady stuff for the likes of us. We could not resist.

Please, forgive us our pride. We were caught up in the madness of something bigger than ourselves. And if you can not forgive, let this at least be a warning.

Okay, now is there any particular reason why the miners refuse to mine? I have plenty of mining work for them, but they seem to think they're too good for it. :(

Did you turn hunting on for the miners, too? They can't hunt and mine at the same time because both jobs need equipment (picks vs crossbows) and the dwarves can only have one.

DF Master Work Succession Game Thread has been started. Currently we are not taking on players until we can finish getting the settings right for the game.

If the miners aren't digging, it's possible that you have them stuck in a burrow.

I have a feeling Condo is going to encase the fortress in obsidian before we find out what kind of mistress the moon is.

I sure hope it's The Moon is a Harsh Mistress he's referencing. Or Starship Troopers. Because if it's Stranger in a Strange Land, things are gonna get really weird really soon.
