I was referring to the Tony Stark not the Gilgamesh...I'm still figuring out these arrows. [lol]

All right, so I think I've discovered the actual plot.

This takes place a few years ahead of the original Buu saga, so Trunks and Goten are thirteen instead of eight. This is purely for cosmetic and aesthetic reasons. Goku has amassed enough cosmic goodwill, both in his time alive and working with Pikkon as a two-man Hell Police team to return to Earth for one day. However, Goku has decided that he will be arriving on the day AFTER the World Martial Arts Tournament, so he will not be distracting from spending time with his family. His other reason is that the Otherworld Martial Arts Tournament is taking place on the same day, and Goku's father Bardock, who has earned enough goodwill of his own by trying to control things in Hell on his own to be elevated to Otherworld, will be participating, and it may be the only chance Goku gets to see his father.

Meanwhile, in the world of the living, Goten, Trunks, Piccolo, Krillin, and 18 have entered the World Martial Arts Tournament. Vegeta has opted out of the tournament to coach Trunks instead, seeing no real reason to enter. Also joining this year are former Semifinalist Spopovich and disgraced former World Champion Hercule. Both men have startlingly new appearances, with shaved heads, bulging, vascular muscles, and ornate 'M's tattooed on their foreheads. As well as all this, a bizarre purple man with a white mohawk known only as "Shin" has entered the tournament. There is a special prize for the lucky fighter who makes it to the end of the tournament: a special exhibition fight with the World's Greatest Champion: Gohan!

The quarter-finals are as follows

Hercule vs. 18

Spopovich vs. Piccolo

Trunks vs. Krillin

Shin vs. Goten

18 makes quick work of Hercule, though Hercule seemed to not be interested in fighting as much as gauging 18's strength. Piccolo's battle with Spopovich goes much the same. The real fun comes in Trunks vs. Krillin and Shin vs. Goten. Krillin puts up quite a tough fight against the teenage prodigy, using cunning, speed, and veteran savvy to keep his much-stronger young foe off-balance. Sadly, it is not enough, especially with Vegeta in Trunks' corner to keep him focused. Trunks advances to the semi-finals, albeit with a much harder fight than anyone could have anticipated. Goten facing off with Shin provides even more intrigue, as whoever this purple stranger is, he clearly has great power, as he is able to keep step-for-step with the Son of Son, even forcing the youngster to unleash his Kaioken technique. Eventually, however, Goten is triumphant. After congratulating his defeater, Shin reveals that he has secret information, which he will tell Goten in the intermission.

In the semi-finals, Trunks faces off against 18, and despite Vegeta's warnings, Trunks makes a foolish attempt to flirt with the dangerous cyborg, and when that garners no reaction, insults her outright. 18's response is quick and violent, putting Trunks on the defensive from the outset. With Vegeta's coaching, however, Trunks is able to regain his footing and the advantage, and with a barrage of ki blasts ironically similar to those 18 used to kill Gohan in an alternate future, is able to force a TKO victory. However, after the bout, both Bulma and Vegeta force an apology out of Trunks. Goten faces off with Piccolo, and as with Krillin against Trunks, superior skill and experience are able to give Piccolo equal footing, as well as several uniquely Namekian powers. However, it is those same powers that cost Piccolo his victory, as Goten is able to outmaneuver Piccolo's wildly-stretching limbs and force him to touch the ground outside the ring, resulting in a loss for Piccolo.

In the intermission for the finals, there is much feasting as always, and Vegeta is giving Trunks meticulous instructions to Trunks as Bulma tends to his cuts and bruises, while Goten is experiencing much the same with the Z-Fighters and Chi-Chi, respectively. Spopovich and Hercule seem to sulk in a dark corner, glowering over their defeats, when in fact they are planning something far more sinister. Goten is called away from his group by Shin, who reveals his secrets to Goten. He is a being called the Supreme Kai, the absolute overseer of the Universe, and that he has come to Earth because a sorcerer called Babadi is planning to resurrect his monster Buu to wreak terror on the Universe. Spopovich and Hercule are his minions, and are planning to drain the strongest energy they can find to return to Babadi to resurrect Majin Buu, so Goten needs to be on absolute guard during the finals. As a Deity, he is foresworn from engaging in physical conflicts in the realm of mortals to interfere with their destinies, but he can....nudge things in a certain direction, as he puts it. Before Goten can even fully fathom the information given to him, the Supreme Kai vanishes in a wisp.

In the finals, Goten and Trunks engage in an all-out war of flying fists and furious kicks, striking with enough force to cause shockwaves to erupt around them. But things really get going when both young warriors reveal their Super Saiyan forms, a shock to the audience, Gohan, and even one another. The battle rages on, in the sky and on the ground, with such ferocity and speed that to normal people, all that can be seen are dashes in the air. For Trunks, victory would mean a chance at redemption for his family name, and success in the eyes of his father. For Goten, it is a chance to take out the bitter rejection and aggression that has been slowly building up inside him for years, and one of the only opportunities to see his brother face-to-face in person. Dramatically, but also naturally, the fight comes down to a cross-counter in the center of the ring...and Goten is able to stand for just a half-second longer than Trunks, who collapses in exhaustion. The arena erupts into thunderous applause as Goten helps Trunks to his feet, and the two young warriors embrace as friends.

Gohan, who seems to have spent the entire tournament either on his smartphone, sipping champagne, trying to get up to funny business with his secretary Videl, or a combination of the three, descends from his Skybox to congratulate Goten on his victory, and offer him a moment's respite before their exhibition. Goten, however, demands that they begin immediately. With only the briefest of shrugs, Gohan removes his suit jacket, glasses, shirt, and tie, before adopting a fighting stance and going Super Saiyan as well. The battle escalates fiercely and quickly, with Gohan caught off-guard by Goten's aggression and power, needing to increase his own power just to stay in the game, which causes Goten's power to rise both in anger and in desire to stay on the offensive. As both fighters' powers climb incredulously high, Spopovich realizes that now is the perfect time to strike. But Hercule, craven as he is, convinces Spopovich to follow an easier target...

As Gohan and Goten begin to reach a fever pitch, and the first few lashes of lightning fly through Gohan's hair, a horrified scream fills the air. The battle comes to a screeching halt, as Bulma is swatted aside like a fly by Spopovich as Hercule draws power from an exhausted Trunks. The two bandits quickly depart, Vegeta chasing after them in a blind rage, his power spiking for a brief second to even greater heights than Gohan. Goten is eager to follow after them, but Gohan insists they finish their fight. Disgusted and appalled, Goten ignores his brother, and flies off in pursuit of Vegeta. Reluctantly, almost bored at the prospect, Gohan follows after him, whistling for his trademark fleet of fly-sized nanocameras to pursue, so his "adoring public" won't "miss any of the action."

It also occurs to me that with Goten actually going along with the others to fight Babidi (as opposed to staying to fight in the tourney), there is now another candidate for majin-ning and all.

In fact, is it possible that Babidi will convert Vegeta and Goten?

I wouldn't think so. Goten's not as fierce as Vegeta is, and Babidi didn't home in on him until Dabura brought that to his attention. Vegeta admitted surrendering to Babidi's influence because Babidi could unleash the part of himself he'd long since buried, so I don't know how well Goten would fare. Babidi's powers could use a lot of 'headcanon' here, he only took over four known people.

Aaagh. Firefox crashed on me, ruining what I had spent all day writing. D: And I don't really feel like writing it all again, 'cause it was a LOT, so I'll give the cliftnotes.

Part 2 of 3: In which everything goes to Hell.

-Gohan, Vegeta, and Goten make short work of Babadi's minions, even Dabura. Babadi senses Goten's rage and enormous potential power and casts his spell, bringing Goten under his influence and making him fight Gohan. Veget attempts to pursue, but is stopped by Majin constructs of two fears Babadi found in his mid, Cell and Frieza.

-Gohan and Goten have a huge fight where Goten hurls a lot of insults at Gohan, and Gohan only exacerbates the situation by getting defensive and yelling back at Goten throughout the fight, trying to save face.

-Vegeta is making no progress against the Majin constructs as they constantly regenerate, but Trunks and the Z-fighters (Krillin, Piccolo, Yamcha, Tien, 18) all rush in to even the odds, allowing Vegeta to go into the ship and confront Babadi. The fear constructs add Nappa, Gero, Piccolo Daimo, and Saibamen to their ranks. Vegeta blasts his way through the ship before he is confronted by another construct, Majin Vegeta. The evil Vegeta verbally browbeats the true Vegeta, reminding him of all his evils and laying all his flaws bare as he also physically beats him.

-Babadi uses the obscene amounts of power he's getting from all the fighting to begin summoning Majin Buu and is also able to take the time to try and remove the Kai influence from Buu.

-Vegeta admits his faults, but vows to change himself for the better, and this revelation awakens something inside Vegeta, allowing him to go Super Saiyan 2, destroying the Majin construct in a single blow, and then causing the entire ship to violently explode, killing Babadi, destroying all the constructs, and freeing Goten from Babadi's control, which allows Gohan to knock him out with a neck chop.

-Gohan arrives at the blast site to tell everyone but Vegeta to grab Goten and head to the lookout where they'll be safe. Together, Gohan and Vegeta prepare to face off against Majin Buu (Super Buu). Buu's speed and power, coupled by his completely chaotic style, make him the most dangerous foe either of them have faced, forcing them to fire off their heaviest shots just to level the playing field.

-Goku speaks to Goten and Trunks through King Kai, now that the Otherworld Tournament has reached its intermission and King Kai has informed him of the situation. He instructs the two young half-saiyans to use the Room of Spirit and Time, which is the only way they will have enough time to prepare for Buu. Gohan and Vegeta, Goku says, will not win, and the two of them are the only hope for the Universe. Through sheer force of will, Goku appears as two apparitions to Goten and Trunks, and instructs them in the ways of Fusion. Goku tells them to push themselves to their absolute limits and then beyond, to train as hard as they can, as the fate of the Universe rests on them.

(Here's what I hadn't been able to type yet)

-Gohan and Vegeta are struggling against Majin Buu, who seems to be indestructible, when Gohan develops a strategy. Vegeta takes a dive on Buu's next attack, allowing Gohan to keep the monster's focus on him. Plus, if Gohan gets in a jam, Vegeta will be able to hit Buu with a surprise attack. Mustering all his strength, Gohan is able to unleash a massive Kamehameha on Buu, then outrace his own energy beam and fire another, sandwiching Buu in the explosion. When the dust settles, Buu seems to be defeated, but when Vegeta rises to congratulate Gohan, it is revealed that a small piece of Buu was jettisoned before the blast, and quickly absorbs Vegeta. This new, more intelligent, and far more powerful Buu overwhelms Gohan, beating him senseless and constantly outmaneuvering him. Gohan is only able to survive by appealing to Vegeta's vanity, pointing out that Buu wouldn't want to defeat Gohan unless he was at his absolute strongest. Calling Gohan's bluff, Buu tells him to power up.

-Reaching somewhere deep in the core of his soul, Gohan lets out a primal scream. It is a roar of Fury, a shriek of agony, a burst of maniacal laughter, and a hundred different emotions all at once. Gohan is bathed in a fantastic golden light as the skies darken, lightning cracks, and the world feels ready to shake apart. Even in Other World, in the middle of their battle, Goku and Bardock can feel the tremors of Gohan's ungodly power. In one final explosion of light, Gohan reveals his ultimate power: he has discovered the form of Super Saiyan 3.

It is a violent, blisteringly fast battle, as Gohan immediately takes advantage, Buu completely caught off-guard by the surge of power, flabbergasted as Gohan batters him with a tremendous fury of energy blasts and strikes loud enough and powerful enough to split planets apart. Buu attempts to regain the advantage, but every attempt at offense, every attack, every trick, is shutdown by Gohan's overwhelming ferocity and strength. It seems as though Goku might be wrong, and that Gohan might yet win the day, especially when he readies to fire a Kamehameha at a completely helpless Buu that would blast him straight out into space. And yet, at the Apex of Gohan's blast, his power...fades. The Kamehameha, much weaker than when Gohan first charged it, dissolves before it even touches Buu. Gohan hadn't been sufficiently training with the form, had underestimated how quickly it would drain him, how much of a strain it would put on his body. Gohan is completely helpless as Buu reforms, plummeting out of the sky before Buu catches him by the throat.

"I could absorb you." says Buu. "With your power added to Vegeta's, there would be nothing in all the Universe that could stand against me. Nothing which could compare to my power. There would be...no challenge." Buu smirks wickedly. "And as you said, I love to be challenged. So, goodbye, Son Gohan. And remember forever in the next life: All of this was your fault." And with a sickening snap with one hand, and a violent eruption of pink light with the other, Son Gohan, protector of the Earth....dies.

(Part 3 tomorrow. The epic conclusion!)

To be fair, his Gohan didn't stop training.

What I'm more concerned about is Goku appearing to Goten and Trunks via sheer force of will. Goku still has his day left, and is even all set to use it. Why not have him use it to train Trunks and Goten?

Also, it seems odd to me that Goten, even a majinized Goten, can come anywhere near matching SSJ 2 Gohan. Especially since, as was mentioned before, this Gohan did not stop training.

Also, either this Goten is really weak willed, or there is evil in his heart. What have you done to him?!

-Gohan not stopping training is the big reason why he was able to reach Super Saiyan 3, yes.

-As far as Goten being able to keep step with Super Saiyan 2 Gohan...as far as I could tell when watching and reading, the Majin boost allowed Vegeta to be at least on par with Goku at Super Saiyan 2. And, similar to Goku, Gohan was holding back his FULL power, because he didn't want to completely vaporize his brother. Also keep in mind that this Goten is a few years older than the one on the show, and has been training a lot more than the other, whose "training" seemed to consist of occasionally sparring with Chi-Chi, and then sparring with Gohan for about a week before the tournament, so I'd say he's strong enough where Majin would make up the difference.

-As far as Goku appearing as the apparitions...admittedly, I took the force of will thing from Superman & Batman Generations, where Superman, despite being powerless and trapped in the Phantom Zone, was able to appear as a ghost in the real world through nothing but his own willpower. And as for why Goku doesn't just use his one day...well, as much as this makes Goku seem like a douchebag (which seems to be inescapable in any canon), if Goku were to return to Earth, that would disqualify him from the tournament. And, as mentioned, it was down to him and Bardock in the finals. A detail I did NOT mention, however, was that it turns out that Planet Vegeta is in the WEST Galaxy, and since you "belong" to the Kai in the Galaxy you die in, that makes this particular day the only day where Goku might ever get to see his father. So he's very torn about the whole thing, and decides to do things the other way, which is dangerous, since exerting his willpower like that actually drains HIS SOUL, and if he stuck around to train Goten and Trunks for too long, he'd just fade from existence and be gone forever.

-Lastly, in terms of Goten's corruption...he's not necessarily evil, or even that weak-willed. The problem is that, whenever Goten is training with the Z-Fighters, he tends to ask them about his brother, who he never sees, and his father, who he never met. Of course, they all say wonderful things about Goku, as he deserves to have said about them. And, while they say nice things about who Gohan WAS, they're very blunt about what Gohan has BECOME. How Gohan has commercialized techniques that were once sacred, how he's trivialized all their struggles, training, and sacrifices by profiting from THEIR life stories, and making it so that things light flight, strength, and Ki manipulation can be learned in a 3-disc not-sold-in-stores exercise set. And, as Piccolo puts it frankly, "How he's become a mockery of everything his father ever stood for." And, despite hearing this sort of thing again and again, for years and years, Goten didn't want to believe that his brother could be SO bad. He certainly seemed nice enough whenever Goten saw him on TV, or whenever Chi-Chi talked about him. But, when Goten met Gohan at the World Martial Arts Tournament, everything the Z-Fighters taught him rang true. Arrogant, disinterested, hedonistic, obnoxious. He didn't even care when Trunks was attacked by Spopovich and Hercule, and with the fate of the world at stake, he took time to grandstand for the cameras, calling out Babadi, challenging him to come out of the ship and face "The World's Greatest Champion," rather than going into the ship and taking the fight TO Babadi. All Goten wanted to do was beat the hell out of Gohan, and Babadi caught him at the exact wrong moment, when his emotions were raw and his mind was frayed.

Okay. Fair enough.

I do find it ironic that despite everything Gohan became, he actually never forgot to stop training, and even managed to become stronger than his canon counterpart, who didn't fall into arrogance.

Kinda puts his grandstanding into perspective, and makes you question things. I mean, when you really are the baddest dude around, don't you have a least a bit of the right to hype yourself? It ain't bragging if you say it and then back it up.

There's an easy enough solution for that. You already have Goku set to appear on a day other than the tournament. Have him show up the day before, instead.

As a bonus, you could use it to justify some of Goten's rage. His father is everything his friends said he was... And so is his brother.

On top of that, you could use it to help justify some of Gohan's defensiveness during his fight with Goten. If he barely knows Goten, he shouldn't care what Goten has to say. But if Goten attacks things Goku touched on earlier, or even just things Goku caused him to contemplate about himself...

Also, the apparition thing could probably be pulled off if you handwaived it as he got help from King Kai.

Had a throwaway idea for a DB crossover the other day, featuring the Nerima wrecking crew and Shinji Ikari (the latter explicitly being from another universe), and possibly some other crossovers as well.

Basically, the crossover characters find out about the Dragon Balls and go on a rampage to try and get them in order to grant a wish.

Might go something like this:

Ranma: "Hahaha! No longer will I become a girl when doused with cold water!"

Ryoga: "Hahaha! <insert wish here, since he has so many things he could fix with the Dragon Balls>"

Mousse: "Hahaha! Now Shampoo will love me instead of Ranma!"

Shampoo: "Hahaha! Now Ranma be Shampoo's forever!"

Pantyhosetaro: "Hahaha! Now I can force that bastard to change my goddamn name to something worthy of glory and respect!"

Happosai: "PANTIES!"

Shinji: "Now I can go back and live a normal life where the people close to me don't betray me or get killed pointlessly, and I don't have to go insane and condemn everyone in the world to a horrible death."

Everyone except Happosai: o.0 "You poor, poor bastard..."

No, you're doing Ryouga wrong. You don't pick one of his miseries, you have him spout off a list, then have someone comment mid-list that the dragon only grants one wish. And have Ryouga keep going obliviously.

Alternatively, run the scene through several variations, and have Ryouga say something different every time.
