Dude, there might be, like, three people who have even heard of Suske en Wiske on this site. I don't think you'll spark much of a discussion by mentioning this here.
As for the thing itself, I'm pretty sure Willy Vandersteen is spinning in his grave. I mean, really, there's doing a spin-off, and there's going against pretty much everything the creator stood for. It's incredibly poor taste.

... Now wait a second. Suske en Wiske ? As in... As in "Bob et Bobette" in Wallony and France ? Or "Spike and Suzy" in english speaking countries ?
They... They took one of the most family friendly "ligne claire" belgian comics and decided to make it XTREEEEEEEEEEME !?

So I saw the first volume at the supermarket, felt a sudden surge of nostalgia and curiosity, and took the damm thing home with me. Just finished reading.
It's quite alright, actually. Not perfect, or even great, but a pleasant surprise. Blood and language aside, it does feel like a Suske en Wiske comic, except for the fact that I actually want to find out what happens next. It reminds me of some of the better issues of Kiekeboe, though it's been years since I read those, so I might be confusing things.
Mind you, I still stand by my previous post. It goes completely against Vandersteen's creative direction, so choosing his 100th birthday as the time to announce this project might not have been the most respectful way to handle things. But the project itself isn't a complete failure, and I think I'll be along for the ride.
Kudos for making me care about Suske en Wiske again. Haven't felt that since I was eleven years old.
I disliked the swearing to the point where it broke my ability to continue reading. At a certain point it became a juvenile exercise in getting our prim and proper all-ages heroes to say fuck and shit at least once every three panels in which they appeared.
Darker and edgier could have worked, if they had made it more mature. Mature as in: dealing with darker material, working out consequences, raising the stakes, and not getting the characters to swear a lot because it's something they would never have done in the old comics. Mature means that there still is a level of taste and restraint, not a free for all swear-fest.
Well, it was a pleasant surprise to see the old humour still around, but also with the much darker setting which was quite refreshing. However, I did find myself ogling Wiske a lot more than I consider to be healthy, if only they made slightly less a Miss Fanservice.

The cover for part 2 has been released on to the internet. A release will follow on the 6th of november. Any opinions?
Jerusalem ? Are they going to cover the Israeli / Palestinian crisis ? Because if the answer is yes, this is going to start flamewars.

Another image got released onto the web. This one is of a giant clockface partially buried in the sand.
