It's a meta commentary on the things that came out around the same time. I feel like comparisons to Shrek and other movies such as Scream or Cabin in the Woods are apt here.
It's been 3000 years…That sounds more like Scary Movie than anything else.
Optimism is a duty. You know, yesterday it hit me that in Up, Carl's Ellie Badge (previously the soda bottle cap Ellie gave Carl when they were kids) that he gives to Russell for assisting the elderly and for performing above and beyond the call of duty, was for a grape soda. As in purple. So it's like Carl gave Russell the Purple Heart or something.
But then I checked that the Purple Heart is awarded for "being wounded or killed in any action against an enemy of the United States or as a result of an act of any such enemy or opposing armed forces" and Russell is clearly not wounded or killed (thank God!), so it's probably a coincidence.
This evening I’m going to watch Sleeping Beauty while having dinner. :) It’s very fitting because not only am I relaxing after my best friend’s wedding, today just so happens to be a holiday of my own invention: the Day of Sleep.

Princess Aurora is underrated, pass it on.Is it just me, or is Muppets Most Wanted something of a Spiritual Successor to The Great Muppet Caper?
Both are heist movies, and probably count as the silliest movies in the Muppet Canon, with a pretty lax attitude about the fourth wall. (No one being able to tell the difference between Kermit and Constantine, despite them acting and sounding completely different, and the whole idea of Kermit and Fozzie being identical twins respectively.)
Both even start with a song about how they are going to make a movie!

I do remember there being a lot of parallels, especially when compounded with the parallels between their respective predecessors.
SoundCloudI’ve always liked to joke that We’re Doing A Sequel is, itself, a sequel to Hey, A Movie.
"The difference between reality and fiction is that fiction has to make sense." - Tom Clancy, paraphrasing Mark Twain.Caper is particularly fun with how transparent the fourth wall is. There's even a bit where Kermit breaks character in the middle of a scene because Piggy is overacting!
Most Wanted never quite goes that far, but there are a few scenes, particularly in the extended cut, that come close.

Yeah, I remember a lot of people comparing how The Muppet Movie and The Muppets (2011) were similar in that they were more emotional stories involving rallying the Muppets together, while their respective sequels were more tongue-in-cheek and focused a lot more on the gags.
That and Tina Fey, despite being a great comedian and writer, is obnoxious in this film.
If I had a nickel for every film where Emma Stone falls off a balcony... I'd only have two nickels, but weird that there's two of them.I don’t think youtube will let me embed it here, but since we’re talking MMW, Bill Barretta surprising Ricky Gervais by having him talk with Constantine when he was on his podcast, is adorable and very worth watching. (they totally became best buds while filming the movie, and are very cute together.)
And here’s the full episode, with Ricky Gervais and Matt Vogel, for anyone that’s interested.
(Apparently Constantine giving online acting classes to real celebrities was one of the pitches for Muppets Now, which would have been amazing.)

May I take this moment to say that I love the “There is Only One Disney” opening? The one that starts with Captain Jack Sparrow saying “We have our heading.”
Princess Aurora is underrated, pass it on.Aw, I remember that one. Pretty dang nostalgic for me.
Disney100 Marathon | DreamWorks MarathonI don't think I'm familiar with that one.
It's an intro that was on a lot of late 2000s-early 2010s DVDs. Here it is.
Here's a bit of trivia: the music used in that promo is the Main Title from Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, as written by the late Michael Kamen. He also wrote the music for the 1996 film adaptation of 101 Dalmatians.

He/His/Him. No matter who you are, always Be Yourself.Very cool.
Speaking of that era (Late 2000s - early 2010s), I have a funny memory about that. I remember my mom saying it was amusing that I bought two movies with opposite settings and atmospheres: Sleeping Beauty and the first Iron Man. Just a few years later, Marvel became a part of Disney.
Princess Aurora is underrated, pass it on.x7 I’m tempted to put that on the movie’s Heartwarming page as a meta example tbh
I mean, just look at how Ricky’s face just lights up when he realizes who he’s talking to. He’s just so genuinely delighted to see Constantine again, and it’s really rather sweet.

Can I rant for ten minutes about something that really annoys me when people appropriate a phrase from The Incredibles?
Trans rights are human rights. TV Tropes is not a place for bigotry, cruelty, or dickishness, no matter who or their position.Which phrase?
I'll take that as permission.
So, we all know that phrase from The Incredibles, one bitterly spouted by both Dash when he was talking to his mom and by Syndrome as part of his master plan: "If everybody's special then nobody will be."
Some people have taken this and came up with their own versions of that phrase: "if you're friends with everybody, you're friends with nobody" or "if everything is political, nothing is political".
When I see embellishments like that, it's clear proof that somebody is, to put it lightly, a goddamn moron who can't remember the context of the simplest scenes.
That phrase refers to uniqueness, that you are special, the idea that you and your abilities/talents are one-of-a-kind, there is nobody else like you. At first glance, it's a contradiction: how can you be unique and special like everybody else? And in the film, the Incredibles have been hiding their powers, suppressing their uniqueness to be like everybody else.
Here's the thing: it's about being one of a kind. It does not apply, at all, to ideas that everybody can and does share. So, yes, you can be friends with everybody, friendship is not some sort of limited resource. Yes, everything can be political (or cultural, which is what is usually meant). In fact, I'd hazard to say that it's nearly impossible for something like fiction to not be political or cultural.
If you try to misuse this phrase to refer to things that aren't supposedly inherently denuded by there being many of them, I have no reason to listen to a bloody thing you have to say.
(Pant, pant)
Thanks for coming to my TED Talk.

Death is a companion. We should cherish Death as we cherish Life."When everyone's super..." *laughs evilly* "...(menacingly) no one will be."
YO. Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie.Looked at a certain way though, while one can understand Dash's frustrations at being forced to hide his light under a bushel and not perform to the extent of his abilities, he's not really correct. Saying that "everyone is special" speaks to the quality of being special, not the specific manner in which a specific individual is special. Everyone being special means that the quality of being special itself is not unique, but the manner in which a specific person is special may indeed be unique.
Please don't call this Shrek for the new era, it's an insult to Shrek. And I mean it in a sincere way since Shrek is a legitimately good film.
