Rumors are that Beast Morphers isn't coming until next month but I don't think that's actually been confirmed? Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Just today Hasbro's CEO had a conference confirming that it will premiere in Q2. Many speculate around late-March or April, since Hasbro can't start selling toys until April 1st (when Bandai's contract expires), so it would make sense to make to premiere it along the toys.

Also, he confirmed that there already in talks with Paramount to have a new movie in "the next few years".

It's made by Hasbro, so is it still going to continue with the whole "two half season" thing they've been doing for the last 8 years? Because I'm kind of tired of that format.

Probably. It's Nick the ones who forced the split seasons, so I imagine that as meanwhile it's aired on Nick, we will keep getting super seasons.

Random question, but is there a generally agreed list of PR series that are actually superior to the corresponding Sentai? I've heard LG and LR both thrown around in this regard, at least.

The pig of Hufflepuff pulsed like a large bullfrog. Dumbledore smiled at it, and placed his hand on its head: "You are Hagrid now."

I haven't watched Go-Busters and I'm only partway through an RPM rewatch (the first watch being when it originally aired) but they just seem incomparable.

Actually, the only series where I've watched Sentai and Ranger versions if Ninninger/ Ninja Steel, and the Sentai probably wins on that one.

I think split seasons is confirmed. Though personally I'm hoping they'll quit 'super' and just say 'season 1/ season 2'.

Also, toys... 1 2 3

Non-combining megazord toys return (which makes sense, cheaper and probably better for little kids)... but it's Wild Force. I'm a bit confused but honestly why not? Primary demographic kids are too young to remember either and if we're pumping out random MMPR stuff, may as well do the series in-between too.

Very mild Beast Morphers stuff; Megazords, some more Blaze, the cheetah gun, and they added a key gimmick to the morpher.

I think Megaranger was liked well enough as a Sentai, but In Space is frequently listed among the best PR seasons. Similarly, Ohranger is not a bad season but wasn't very well received at the time, which makes Zeo stand out a little more (it's not a great season but it is the first complete rebranding, setting the stage for the rest of the franchise). Lost Galaxy and RPM are such complete divergences from the Sentai it's hard to compare. Almost everything else aligns so closely to the Sentai that their strengths and weaknesses are interconnected.

That's mostly because Ohranger completely lost the plot half way through after they had to excise all the Too Soon bits.

Dino Thunder maybe? I know a lot of people love it, but I never really see Sentai fans bring up Abaranger. Dino Charge vs Kyoryuger is one where people tend to complain about the sentai (too red ranger centric) but don’t have the same issue with the adaptation, so maybe that?

KJMackley Since: Jan, 2001

Dino Thunder I think improves on a few things, but like I said for many Sentai/PR comparisons their strengths and weaknesses are interconnected. It's hard to get around "White Ranger never changed sides" with the source footage. As such for a PR season to be seen as superior it's usually due to the Sentai being bad or forgettable in the first place. In the case of Time Force or SPD, Timeranger and Dekaranger already had good reputations. Wild Force suffered from the adherence to the Gaoranger story. RPM became popular because it was just crazy.

I mean, yeah, PR still depends on Sentai a fair bit, though increased original footage use helps. I still find the whole process fascinating, though I prefer the more adventurous 'how much can we get away with reframing this' rather than the just straight translation. Except for 'aliens who randomly happen to look like Earth culture', like would the occasional magic bad guy hurt that much?

There's quite a few toku series (though most of the examples jumping to me are Rider rather than Sentai) that have neat designs but not very good story so in theory the potential for an improved PR version is always there, at least in theory.

I'd just like to start hearing the Beast Morphers official theme. Even if it's just some beta ones, like the neat ones for R.P.M.

...It's weird having so many websites and no way to properly display now, lol.

Bunch of toy stuff, nothing massive but some interesting stuff.

Lightning collection, all the Rangers get civilian heads, even Doggie/Shadow (really tempted by that one).

Variety; notably, they are still going on the neither-MMPR-nor-current-series stuff, as there's Wild Force and Dino Thunder around (I guess animals and dinosaurs are easily marketable?). As for Beast Morphers, Roxy's monster form is a recoloured Escape, and Blaze actually gets a few different figures which further suggests his ranger form gets much more screentime than Dark Buster did

The Power Rangers are going on tour.

When Hasbro got the Power Rangers license, as a lifelong fan, I started wondering what they’d do. A cartoon? Closer collaboration with the show’s Japanese counterparts? More movies? Perhaps the Power Rangers heyday of the 1990s would return.

Well, all of that could still happen, but in the meantime Hasbro is doing something even more ‘90s than that. That’s right, it’s roadshow time. As reported by Power Rangers fan site Morphin’ Legacy, Hasbro is taking the costumed heroes on tour, for what Hasbro’s press release calls “a live stage experience intended for Power Rangers fans of all ages.”

Interesting. Wonder if it'll just be like the Sentai hero shows or they'll try something else?

I'm cautiously optimistic about the new direction. Even the basic figures look pretty good and those super deformed ones are tempting. I'm not sure about the zords; they look higher quality but I think it's quite expensive for a full megazord and not sure what parents will think about that. Adding a gimmick to the morpher is weird, but they don't look that invasive and the toy looks good (possibly even voice recognition?). Though of course I need to actually see some episodes before judging anything but the toys. Apparently there was a trailer they showed at Toy Fair we haven't properly seen yet?

Saban actually tried to do one a few years ago, but it was unexpectedly cancelled. I imagine it had to do Hasbro buying the franchise, since it was around that time.

As for the trailer, they showed some clips at the booths at the toy fair, but no real trailer. Apparently Hasbro wanted to hold a bit to it so the toys would get a bigger spotlight. The trailer might comes somewhere this week.
