Why wasn't Zhen in jail? Their deal was she help Po find the Chameleon and he does what he can to reduce her jail sentence. They went straight from Ping's restaurant, (where Ping gives her food to enjoy while in prison) to the Jade Palace so Po could train Zhen to become his Dragon Warrior replacement.
I found something very interesting behind the scenes of KFP 4, any thoughts about it? https://twitter.com/RickDaSquirrel/status/1766969298298314939
…I think the 90 minutes mandate is stupid, I think Ma Stine should direct the next one, I am VERY concerned about the TV division news… maybe we should have this cross posted in the general DreamWorks thread.
AND A HYBRID? REALLY?

You’re Gonna Carry That Weight.I meant the TV division being downsized. I’m very sad to hear that…
Also, yeah I figured there was a financial reason Jolie didn’t come back.

You’re Gonna Carry That Weight. My big hope is that she is made the director of 5 and is able to address these complaints there.
I thought Zhen was fine, but there could have been more meat on that bone, story wise.

You’re Gonna Carry That Weight. This is perhaps the downfall of KFP becoming more of a signature brand, they want to keep it approachable so put in more mandates. I wonder if the reason The Last Wish managed to be so ambitious was because it only used spin off characters from Shrek.
Zhen's kind of interesting to talk about since she does have an arc, but the way it's set up makes her more like a twist villain, we only realise after The Reveal that she was a Guilt-Ridden Accomplice. Not sure whether this is worse or not, they've done the whole onscreen arc plenty times before, like Kitty in the first Puss in Boots and hell, even one or two times in KFP already like Song, but it could have made for a more nuanced performance from the character earlier in the film. Making the audience briefly think she faked it all and was actually pure evil for a moment only to subvert it I admit was a unique direction though. Sort of like a "No we're not lame enough to pull a Hans".[tongue]

I suppose that The Wild Robot will be safe then, given it’s not a core brand.
Also, it is possible that we get a furious five spinoff it sounds like.

You’re Gonna Carry That Weight.Watched the film, while my wife was more than happy to see Po again in action, I feel satisfied because the film still have good doses of comedy and tries to use good gags, while the low point for me is the villain and the reveal... I think it was very easy to learn that Po was too good to think that his ally will do that...
The Chameleon, while spectacular, I think was on par with the villain of the second film, the motivations are trying to compensate the lack of abilities with the use of something different, but at least Po´s deal with the peacock was more elaborate..
The film was fun, I would accept and I know Dreamworks will not put a lot of effort to try to make a movie that goes to the Oscar, but just to keep us entertained and get our money, and... I am satisfied with that... 7.5/10.
Hope Dreamworks would fix the mess that made with Po with the last two animated TV series (the franchise didn´t deserve that damage)
My rankings from best to least good, as long as no one is bad)
1) Kung Fu Panda
2) Kung Fu Panda 3
3) Kung Fu Panda 2
4) Kung Fu Panda 4

Agreed. Thank goodness for her.
Also, apparently the runtime thing went into effect after Ruby Gillman and Mario.
You’re Gonna Carry That Weight. If I had to guess I'd wager that those films were more well-received by teens and adults than the target audience of kids, though I could be wrong.
The Protomen enhanced my life. The tv and movie branches of Dreamworks being in contention with one another explains a lot over the last decade or so (see also, Puss in Boots), and is also a mite disappointing.
That said, Hollywood is still baby stepping into the idea of genuinely multimedia franchises with film headliners, so it's not surprising.

Yeah, maybe we take that discussion to the DreamWorks thread before we get too off track. But it is disappointing, yes.
You’re Gonna Carry That Weight. It's a conversation about the Kung Fu Panda franchise as a whole, and a response to something one of the Kung Fu Panda developers said which was posted last page. I'm not seeing where it's off topic.
It encompasses things beyond KFP, but as far as I'm aware we've been talking about how it affects KFP specifically.

Okay. Okay, thank you. That is a relief.
