Ah. Well, I don't hang around that thread, so I wasn't aware. Still, this is supposed to be about news and other stuff concerning the Catholic Church, not the theological and religious stuff around the trinity of the transmogrification of Christ, which has more views than just the Catholic one (and, therefore, it goes beyond the scope of this thread).

I'm reading a book called Honor, a History, and it's messing with my brain. However, for the purposes of this conversation, I'm using "unmanly" for lack of a better word. The concept I'm going for is something like... "un-adult-ish"? You know, standing up for yourself, not using others' affection to dodge the consequences of your actions, not doing stuff like being deliberately cute, or begging or flattering your way out of trouble... not being like a son with his mommy or a girl with her daddy, tugging at their heartstrings to get their whims fulfilled and their misdeeds Easily Forgiven. So... childish? It should be perfect, but it doesn't sound right.
Is there an Orthodox equivalent of the Holy See, or is it a bunch of independent nominations?

Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that. While the Jesuits do serve under the leadership of the Pope, their actual mission is "to strive especially for the defence and propagation of the faith and for the progress of souls in Christian life and doctrine, by means of public preaching, lectures and any other ministration whatsoever of the Word of God, and further by means of retreats, the education of children and unlettered persons in Christianity, and the spiritual consolation of Christ's faithful through hearing confessions and administering the other sacraments." They arent mooks.
I'm done trying to sound smart. "Clear" is the new smart. From Wikipedia: "The Church's structure is composed of several self-governing ecclesial bodies, each geographically (and often nationally) distinct but unified in theology and worship. Each self-governing body (autocephalous jurisdiction), often but not always encompassing a nation, is shepherded by a Holy Synod whose duty, among other things, is to preserve and teach the apostolic and patristic traditions and related church practices."
"The Salvation Army is a Christian denominational church and international charitable organization structured in a quasi-military fashion. The organization reports worldwide membership of over 1.5 million, consisting of soldiers, officers and adherents known as Salvationists."

Not really.
"Some of the most difficult questions in relations with the ancient Eastern Churches concern not so much doctrine as practical matters such as the concrete exercise of the claim to papal primacy and how to ensure that ecclesial union would not mean mere absorption of the smaller churches by the Latin component of the much larger Catholic Church, the most numerous single religious denomination in the world, and the stifling or abandonment of their own rich theological, liturgical and cultural heritage." A very valid concern. Westernization isn't just about mini-dresses and fast cars and Babylonian opulence/decadence, it's also about the loss, assimilation, obsoletizations, outshining and steamrolling of lots of old things of varying preciousness.
Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.Hm, when I talked about Westernization, the pomp and circumstance of the Catholic Church were not among the things I have in mind. I've seen the Basilica of St. Peter, BTW. What the heck was that? Is it supposed to host giants? Because it sure as heck didn't seem designed with humans in mind.
Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.My feeling was more along the lines of "FALL IN AWE BEFORE THE CHURCH" rather than the LORD. I could almost picture a massive choir pulling a synchronized Large Ham laugh at me; "And HE shall puri-FWAHAHAHAHAHAHA AHAHAHAHAHAHA HAHAHAHAHA AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
Just kidding, that's one of my favourite songs ever.

Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.Well, historically, the Catholic Church regarded itself as the only voice of God on Earth, so the two were functionally supposed to be one and the same. That's not so true anymore, and the design of St. Peter's is now perhaps a little, how shall we say this, ostentatious?
I'm done trying to sound smart. "Clear" is the new smart.Notre Dame felt kinda tiny... I had the architectural equivalent of Expecting Someone Taller.
Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.

Also, Jesuits, if I remeber my history well, swear fealty to the Pope and the Pope alone. Isn't one of them becoming pope kinda... I dunno, a conflict of interest?
