Of course 4chan isn't all bad. But you can never really ignore just how bad the shitposting gets. /v/ is without a doubt a prime example, it's so full of PC MASTER RACE and that stupid "everything is casual bullshit now" attitude that it's borderline unlurkable. I hate /mlp/ to this day because as unpleasant as that board is, it's basically the home of the bulk of brony content. Why is it all the good stuff thrives in places you don't want to go?
My favorite board back in the day was /co/. But the general attitude towards a few shows, characters and V As I actually did like pissed me off to the point of quitting.
Anyway, in conclusion. It's a fun site, but I don't recommend it.
Just Having FunI lurk:
- /ck/ when i want to make myself something fancy and need inspiration
- /int/ for the daily "deutschfaden" that poops around midnight to discuss the new Domian lifestream.
- /a/ and /v/ for reactions on recent stuff
- /vp/ because Pokemon f*** yeah
- /cm/ because alot of the suff posted there suprisingly manages to avoid Sturgeon's Law
I've avoided 4chan for a long time now due to its reputation, but recently I decided to give it a shot.
Boards like /b/ and /v/ are just as bad as people claim them to be, and /pol/ is probably the worst place I've ever been to online, but the smaller, more niche boards tend to be pretty cool. /mlp/ isn't nearly as bad, but it's still pretty much the worst of the brony fandom, so I don't go there when I can help it.
/co/ and /a/ are pretty alright, though they do have their bad moments, /m/ is probably the most civil board I've seen, and /vg/ is pretty much /v/ without the whining, so /tg/ is also really cool. /mu/ is full of pretentious assholes, but they do make good music recommendations.
One of the things I've learned about 4chan that I found fascinating is how they actually had to invent the word "gay-fag" since "faggot" isn't even considered remotely insulting to anyone there. It's really weird.

Fag is just a neutral pronoun on 4chan.
You could call someone an /m/fag with zero intent to insult.
And yeah, /m/ and /tg/ are great, /a/ can have entertaining threads at time but can be pretty rowdy if you don't go with the hivemind, and /v/, despite being pure shit, is a place I can't stop going to.
And /pol/ is literally a cancer.

Honestly, the only thing I use it for is lurking /x/ in the hopes of catching some new Creepypasta and such while it's still fresh.
Even that board seems to be 80% shitposting to the extent I've gone all the way through all the visible pages and found nothing interesting. The rare good thread pops up, but catching one active requires dumb luck.
@Coda, I frequent ML Pforums so I can get my fix of pony discussion without dealing with that bullshit. I think it's hilarious how /mlp/ has deluded themselves into think they're some great brony hope when they're honestly the fandom's worst.

As an aside, while /mu/ has some of the most obnoxious snobs on it, I will agree that their recs tend to be really solid... if only because their "Patrician essentials" list contains several of my favourite albums ever—fuck yea, 154!
I'll hide your name inside a word and paint your eyes with false perception. He doesn't strike me as typical of them, though; he's not aggressively snobby or self-righteous like the Scaruffi worshippers tend to be.
I'll hide your name inside a word and paint your eyes with false perception.I find /tg/ to be pretty solid; it's great for stories and homebrew content.
/v/ is pretty awful, though I'm not sure if half the posters there are serious about all the shit they spew. The entire board can be summed as "everything you like sucks."
/pol/... is two or three steps above certain neo-Nazi websites sometimes. Lots of really disturbing and vicious people on that one. And they are probably not your typical 4chan trolls in it for laughs, they actually mean it.
Everything else isn't really relevant to my interests.
Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects.Yeah, I've heard they're basically Stormfront.
I asked someone on ask.fm what their general take on 4chan was and I rather like their response
.
Anyway, I do find that ask.fm guy's "culture of cynicism" remark spot on, and honestly I feel the same way. I prefer my cynicism balanced with earnest enthusiasm and actual self-awareness.

I browse /tg/, /mu/, and /lit/.
/tg/ is great generally. /mu/ seems pretentious as fuck, but if you know what you're looking for is a great tool for finding good new music. /lit/ IS pretentious as fuck, all the time, but interesting debates pop up, and the actual writing threads can be good.
I'd rather the world betray me, but I won't betray the world.
