Discuss TV Tropes itself, such as observations you've made about the site/forum/wiki.
NOTE: Keep it civil; try not to get into any Flame Bait-y territory, per the forum rules
(in particular, drama importation and popcorn posting are not allowed, and this thread is for discussion about the site and not the users). In addition, while discussing the Edit Banned thread is not prohibited on its own, discussing and/or alluding to specific ban/suspension cases is not permitted.
One thing I've noticed is that for all how the page for They Might Be Giants claims them to be the unofficial official band of this wiki, there's relatively few people on this site who seem to ever reference them.

There have been many times when I see a missing trope, but when I think of how I would draft it, I realise that I can't think of enough examples, even though I'm sure I've seen it enough times. (This is partly because of how much I read Italian Disney comics in my youth, which are hard to find online and I could never remember the titles.)
Stories don't tell us monsters exist; we knew that already. They show us that monsters can be trademarked and milked for years.Since we're talking a lot about TRS right now I have to say that this thread
is a really fascinating read because a lot of the issues discussed there are still issues today. But you also get people talking about things like Troper Tales and Nakama because those were the biggest controversies when the thread was made. It's genuinely interesting to me and I think others would be interested as well.

Working on: Author Appeal | Sandbox | Troper WallWhat I find weirdest is that the TRS thread mentioned, that renamed Yandere Love Triangle to Psychotic Love Triangle, had as its only reason to let it be expanded to non-Japanese examples.

The Playing with a Trope variants have surprisingly few examples—Deconstructed Trope, Reconstruction, and Lampshade Hanging are the only ones with enough examples to get split. You'd think something like Played for Laughs would have a lot more examples, but I guess it's so broad that people overlook it.
I always kinda felt weird about those pages even having examples, like, it feels off to me to just list random cases of a work playing with a random trope.
Working on: Author Appeal | Sandbox | Troper WallI'm not interrupting the Self-Demonstrating thread on LTP for this
If any of you have been following The TV Tropes Character Crossover War, would anyone be interested in a discussion thread for it? I know there's already a Discord thread for it iirc but that seems to be for writing discussion
Guys how cool would it be if Super Megaforce had a green ranger...Today in Examples Are Not Recent cleanup: until today, the page for Glass Mask said that the author "recently return[ed] to begin wrapping up the series". That was in 2008; the series has been on hiatus since 2012.
Some other examples of outdated info caused by "recent" phrasing:
- On Adventure Game, the 2005 game Fahrenheit was referred to as "recent" until 2022.
- Ryan Gosling's page was made to say "In recent years," when it was created back in 2012, and that went unchanged until 2022.
I did not expect to get so many examples on my first (cohesive) trope draft. I'll have to spread the crosswicking out over a couple of days.
My musician pageI dont know why but I love Americans Hate Tingle 's page on sports. It wasnt bashy at all and it also mentioned how perception has changed over time.

The Professional Wrestling pages are all really bad about that; almost every single one I've seen for a wrestler or promotion still in rotation has examples talking about things from 2010 like they happened last week. And they all compound on each other, too, so there's stuff from two decades ago and stuff from last year both being labeled as "recent".

I'm pretty sure I've mentioned adjusting a Step Up to the Microphone example for The Doors that said guitarist Robby Krieger and keyboardist Ray Manzarek continue to disown the two albums released after lead singer Jim Morrison's death "to this day", even though Ray Manzarek died in 2013. I'm pretty sure it was around 2022 when the example still said "to this day" (it was at least not long after I became a mod); I ended up changing it to the current wording, "Krieger and Manzarek continued to disown them well after the band broke up".

I got a rock for Halloween.Someone mentioned here how Glass Mask had a "recently" for 2008. Well I did some cleanup and noticed not just a lot of ZCEs, but also some tropes used the deprecated formatting of context being in parentheses instead of after a colon. That's what happens when a manga stops running in 2012.
Stories don't tell us monsters exist; we knew that already. They show us that monsters can be trademarked and milked for years.I wonder what it must be like for really long-time tropers to see this site change so much over the years, see tropes and parts of the wiki come and go, see tropers come and go, etc.
Must be surreal.

Works That Require Cleanup of Complaining | Troper WallIt is, but I have the blessing/curse of not really exploring the wiki anymore. I only see a few pages anymore. And those update SLOWLY. But MAN. When you have a page you didnt visit in a decade change so drastically is SCARY. But even then, some pages never really change either and are basically still as intact as years ago.

TroperWall / WikiMagic CleanupPersonal observation: When it comes to tropers that also make their own media, it feels like there's more writers than artists here.
Welcome To Ideals' World
...I think the forum search needs some work. I was looking for the (large and popular) cleanup thread and these two were the sole results.
Works That Require Cleanup of Complaining | Troper WallI know I may find a bit of bias considering the place I'm asking this in, but how do you guys feel about TV Tropes in relation to how it's affected how people perform media analysis?
I know it negatively affecting media analysis is a pretty common complaint I see, but at the same time I believe TV Tropes does have its place within the scope of writing as a whole. To me it should be used as a jumping-off point and an inspiration index (and, in some cases, reference points for how fandoms work/think), but not so much something to solely rely on.
Guys how cool would it be if Super Megaforce had a green ranger...What's the trope for when a character gives a joke answer to a question that ends up being right? Like:
- Alice: Do you know how he managed to avoid being caught?
Bob: (jokingly) He went to space?
Alice: That's right.
Bob: WHAT? I wasn't serious!
(yes, I know Trope Finder exists, but sometimes I just prefer to ask questions in the more relaxed environment of Yack Fest) Tbh I never really hated his minigames in the original, but they did make them better in the remake.

Real-Person Fic is pretty close.
