Discuss TV Tropes itself, such as observations you've made about the site/forum/wiki.
NOTE: Keep it civil; try not to get into any Flame Bait-y territory, per the forum rules
(in particular, drama importation and popcorn posting are not allowed, and this thread is for discussion about the site and not the users). In addition, while discussing the Edit Banned thread is not prohibited on its own, discussing and/or alluding to specific ban/suspension cases is not permitted.
One thing I've noticed is that for all how the page for They Might Be Giants claims them to be the unofficial official band of this wiki, there's relatively few people on this site who seem to ever reference them.

When it comes to alphabetically sorting examples on a trope list, nothing is more headache-inducing than sorting the fucking Fan Works folder.

While I think that too many descriptions can make the text feel evasive in the wiki, I enjoy how some of the roles listed on Ben Kingsley have little descriptions of the characters played by the actor. I think it gives more charm to the page, since most actor pages only list the roles and the works they appear in (which is understandable, considering the sheer amount of roles some actors have).
I've always thought that the site is in its best when sentences are straightforward and technical, but still somewhat aloof and personal. Not things like fandom wars or endless complaining or gushing, but using a more whimsical or poetic tone, y'know.

oh hey how are you doing?Keep thinking about the example on Medium Awareness's fan works folder where Pinkie Pie just randomly shows up
LP Deprecation Cleanup | Ask me about SMPLiveOh man, I doubt that's kosher but I would hate to be a fun killer.
I do some cleanup and then I enjoy shows you probably think are cringe.Yeah, I don't think that's allowed but I won't be the one to remove it
Is there an Advertising Tropes cleanup?
Yes actually,
though it's for advertising examples in general as well.
Not me having no idea the new engineers were chosen
This is how I feel about the Advertising folder. There've been moments where I open a page in alphabetizer mode, but then I peek into that folder and that side of my brain just peaces out. It'd be one thing if all of those entries gave the brand/product name, but so many of them are just like "There was a car commercial from the 1970s where [trope happened]."

On a related note, that thread looks very handy.
You can probably cut examples like those for being vague and non-specific. Or at least hide them and alphabetize the rest.
Working on: Author Appeal | Sandbox | Troper WallI notice that sometimes people seem to be under the impression that the Discussion page is supposed to be a comment section or review area instead of a place to discuss if there's any issues with a given trope.
Hugging a Vanillite will give you frostbite.TRS/IP threads when things get heated and disagreeable:
Can confirm, I have no idea what "forks vs spoons" means in the context of this site.
They were like little factions based on whether people wanted cool and flashy trope names or ones that actually described the trope. I think SPOON was for the clear names and FORK for the cool names. It's outlined on Table

Working on: Author Appeal | Sandbox | Troper WallI think my biggest contribution to the wiki was suggesting the name "Inconsistent Spelling".
About the discussion pages being misused, I know of two articles for fanfics, Embers (Vathara) and Shinji and Warhammer40k, where the discussion pages were being used to discuss the fanfics as chapters came out. Wouldn't surprise me to find more. The latter is more understandable because I think it predates our forums. Amusingly, much of the Archived Discussion is about the article, or rather about whether fanfics should have articles at all on the wiki.
Stories don't tell us monsters exist; we knew that already. They show us that monsters can be trademarked and milked for years.I've seen it multiple times too, most annoyingly people using the discussion pages to bash TRS changes made to the trope. I find it a little less frustrating to see comments pertaining to, say, the quality of a certain work because at least those aren't harmful. But also I guess there's no explanation of what discussion pages are used for so I can't blame people for getting it wrong. (That may be a wishlist item...)

Hahaha, yeah. I put in a bugs report about that and another quirk I noticed, so we'll see. It's still a fun tool but not every hero deserves to be David Bowie
