Discuss TV Tropes itself, such as observations you've made about the site/forum/wiki.
NOTE: Keep it civil; try not to get into any Flame Bait-y territory, per the forum rules
(in particular, drama importation and popcorn posting are not allowed, and this thread is for discussion about the site and not the users). In addition, while discussing the Edit Banned thread is not prohibited on its own, discussing and/or alluding to specific ban/suspension cases is not permitted.
One thing I've noticed is that for all how the page for They Might Be Giants claims them to be the unofficial official band of this wiki, there's relatively few people on this site who seem to ever reference them.

Must be why I pretty much gave up on learning programming after attempting (emphasis on attempting) to learn it in college.
This is the first time I've seen the page Report Siht and I thought it was meant to be "Report Shit" but misspelled for the lols.
It's "This Troper" backwards. Oh my God-

AFAIK, that's a custom avatar. Probably been shared via the avatar sharing feature.
I just remembered a dumb moment in my history of complaining cleanup.
Once there was a troper that had placed edits on a bunch of examples under dubbing-related tropes like The Song Remains the Same or Voiceover Translation where they made "suppositions" for the reasons behind some choices that always ended up as "Geez, these foreign dubbing studios are all managed by cheapskates unable to get people who aren't tone-deaf!"

I made a page for Fresh Guacamole, a 2-minute short about a man making guacamole. Still managed to get five tropes out of it. So "I can't think of any tropes" is not an excuse.
I try to do sandboxes, but I usually just make the page in one go anyway so even if I use one it gets cut immediately.

Working on: Author Appeal | Sandbox | Troper WallHa! Draft work pages? Make separate sandboxes for projects? What a fantasy!
Heck, I usually make work pages on impulse or for some ulterior reason. The only reason Bloody Battle exists is because I wanted to properly propose it at Trope Pantheons, which I very much did.
Checking in on this account after leaving the site, MAN that is a cringy forum post history. Daaamn. Never again. To add on to whether or not I sandbox things, I usually only do that when I'm preparing a TLP or a Pantheon Profile.
The only thing I'm probably gonna draft is Characters/ pages if I ever make one, mostly because I need to sort all the images.
Checking in on this account after leaving the site, MAN that is a cringy forum post history. Daaamn. Never again.I rarely use it for TLP stuff either. Once again, I make my first draft in one go or not at all.
All I really use sandboxes for, aside from project thread stuff (i.e., wick checks and cleanup sandboxes), is for drafting TRS OPs and the occasional Complete Monster EP.
Working on: Author Appeal | Sandbox | Troper WallI tend to make sandboxes for work pages if they get long enough, like Mechamato took like 30 pages in my Notepad app, though I did update it directly from its note in said app. Or maybe because the episodes only came out weekly.
In the case of recent ones I've made, they were established directly to the designated work page on the spot. Now that I think about it, the fact that the whole work (or as much as is that's out at the time) was accessible was also a factor just as shorth length was. Because either way I work on and update the page via Notepad app, which works as a personal sandbox anyway.
Yet to officially attempt TLP though. Even though I adopted a draft.
What is FadeIn.Fade Out and why does it have 3 wicks
Even the last wick is confused.

When you're alone I'm reaching out to let you know that you're far from strangers, like the saviorI feel like there is an underlying confusion over what Lampshade Hanging means across the wiki. From my understanding, the trope is supposed to be about characters In-Universe commenting on an implausible or contrieved situation in order to strenghten the audience's Willing Suspension of Disbelief by showing the events are supposed to be seen as unusual in the narrative rather than a consequence of negligence on the author's part. However, I frequently see it getting used for any time a character aknowledges anything that has a trope in the wiki, sometimes not even self-referentially. I've even seen it getting used for a director in a making-off once, even though he was simply discussing the film.

oh hey how are you doing?Might be something worth a TRS if anyone is brave enough.
Working on: Author Appeal | Sandbox | Troper WallCreator's Pet used to be a complaining magnet back when it was called The Wesley, and much of it was down to a rambling description that didn't properly define it. It spent about half its length talking about the trope namer, harped a lot on the writers paying no attention to the audience, and when it did define it, gave three criteria: Hated by fans (The Scrappy), Loved by the writers (Creator's Pet) and Butting into big scenes for no reason (Character Focus). But the pothole to Creator's Pet was not very helpful because it was already a redirect to The Wesley. It was written more as a rant than an article.
Stories don't tell us monsters exist; we knew that already. They show us that monsters can be trademarked and milked for years.
You say that, but there are definitely parts where that weirdness isn't.
We literally have an entire namespace that's dedicated specifically to spreading misinformation. The closest that comes on a lot of other sites is just people lying for fun, rather than having a dedicated section for it, or misinformation is specifically banned.
I don't think it counts as "spreading misinformation" if it's framed to make clear it's not meant to be believed. At least, not any more than any other fiction.
