Discuss TV Tropes itself, such as observations you've made about the site/forum/wiki.
NOTE: Keep it civil; try not to get into any Flame Bait-y territory, per the forum rules
(in particular, drama importation and popcorn posting are not allowed, and this thread is for discussion about the site and not the users). In addition, while discussing the Edit Banned thread is not prohibited on its own, discussing and/or alluding to specific ban/suspension cases is not permitted.
One thing I've noticed is that for all how the page for They Might Be Giants claims them to be the unofficial official band of this wiki, there's relatively few people on this site who seem to ever reference them.

I hate all ensemble tropes, no exceptions, they're all misused.
Working on: Author Appeal | Sandbox | Troper WallPeople take having jokes in titles way to seriously. As in instead of just going with a clear thread/trope name, hesitating because it has to be a pun first.
TroperWall / WikiMagic CleanupEh, joke titles can often be more memorable than non-joke ones. The key is to strike the perfect balance. Obviously of the joke obscures the meaning, the joke has to go, but I've seen joke title names that also perfectly capture the meaning.
Working on: Author Appeal | Sandbox | Troper WallI don't say these are bad, I'd just personally prefer to use whatever first and come up with something else later, instead of taking a day or two because it needs to be witty from the get go.
TroperWall / WikiMagic CleanupEnsemble tropes look like they would be the most telling, gathering together an entire group of characters instead of describing them singly or in contrasting pairs like others. But it has proven very hard to make articles that are broad enough to be applied cross-media and yet specific enough to be notable.
A remark I found in the discussion pages
:
"You ask me, the entire Five Man Band set of tropes needs to get the scorched-earth treatment, but it'll never happen."
Stories don't tell us monsters exist; we knew that already. They show us that monsters can be trademarked and milked for years.A lot of it is pareidolia. Five-Man Band's original definition was: Very few works naturally fit into the pattern without shoehorns of some sort, especially with the strict gender ratio rule. It's simply rare for these dynamics to be in play the exact same way every time, especially as works become more complicated and characters stop filling specific archetypes super cleanly.
Now, obviously things like The Team, Three Plus Two, and the modern Five-Man Band are fine because they're about the existence of the team itself and not about specific roles each member has to fill.

Working on: Author Appeal | Sandbox | Troper WallI feel like I brought that thread up somewhere (don't remember where) when at least one ensemble trope came up, so I guess that still didn't get people posting in the thread.
I got a rock for Halloween. It's probably for the best, the tropes need TRS more than a normal cleanup.
Working on: Author Appeal | Sandbox | Troper WallCrowner an are weird. Sometimes when I thumbs up an image it's shunted down and sometimes when I thumbs down sn image it's shunted up.
Read Pokemon Ultimate EmeraldI feel like Renamed Tropes, there should be a list of Renamed Tropers, at least for situations like this
. Worth making a Wiki Talk?

Maybe, but I wonder if there's tropers who don't want people to know their old account, for personal reasons.
I know Cyto Zytokine (who appears to have deleted their second account) was once Divine Flame 100, for one. I think Paperfly was also once magnumtropus too, as was discovered when the TRS for Flagship Franchise that they wrote under their old account was launched.

Works That Require Cleanup of Complaining | Troper WallWell, it doesn't have to list previous handles, just a note that the tropers are in the clear. Or put notes in old Tropers/ pages that these are approved deletions.

Got it. That idea might work—I think a Wiki Talk would be good.
*looks at my old page* It's got my name in the cut reason. But cut reasons don't get automatically signed anymore these days, so... something?
Suddenly I'm... still rotating Fallen London in my mind even though I've stopped actively playing it.It feels weird that I use TV Tropes while also using Villains Wiki & it's spin-offs. Even if the details are fuzzy on my part, I've heard that Villains Wiki split off from TV Tropes to have their own system for Complete Monster (or "Pure
Evil
" as they call it). I haven't actually used Villains Wiki for to make a Pure Evil proposal before (though I have made "Magnificent Baddie
" (aka Magnificent Bastard) proposals). I mostly just use the "Villains Wiki Expanded Universe" because I like the Wikipedia-esque article format with infoboxes and navigable categories.
But one thing I find somewhat funny about the whole deal is the existance of the Villains Fanon Wiki
, which is a Villains Wiki spin-off specifically for villains of fan works (anything from FanFics to Game Mods to Play-by-Post Games and the like). What's funny about it is that they have zero problem in referencing TV Tropes on their website; they have a category for TV Tropes Terms
and a (mostly inactive) "TVTrope"
section for doing things in our formatting style. Plus they use the term "Complete Monster" instead of "Pure Evil".
If what I've heard is right and Villains Wiki split off from us, everything on Villains Fanon Wiki feels very ironic.
Villains Wiki was made in 2008, I'm sure it's confused with something else.

That's what confused me the first time I heard that, too. I was told Villains Wiki split off from us in this very thread (EDIT: LINK
), and I had pretty much the same question.
I believe Villains Fanon Wiki started in 2018 so you're probably right.

TBH, as one of the people who said that, I don't actually fully know the exact causal relationship - I've never even visited Villains Wiki (and I very much don't want to), plus investigating the whole thing in detail feels too much like drama importation. I'm just pretty sure there has to be some kind of connection, given how certain people on both have been so fucking weird about Complete Monster.

I always had a preference for the Four-Temperament Ensemble.
