Discuss TV Tropes itself, such as observations you've made about the site/forum/wiki.
NOTE: Keep it civil; try not to get into any Flame Bait-y territory, per the forum rules
(in particular, drama importation and popcorn posting are not allowed, and this thread is for discussion about the site and not the users). In addition, while discussing the Edit Banned thread is not prohibited on its own, discussing and/or alluding to specific ban/suspension cases is not permitted.
One thing I've noticed is that for all how the page for They Might Be Giants claims them to be the unofficial official band of this wiki, there's relatively few people on this site who seem to ever reference them.

I was going to say "at least that's a genre", but I'm thinking of Pony Tale.
I wonder how many TLPs are too much. Right now, I'm holding like three of them. Symbol Face, Clothes For Christmas Cringe, and Deity of Mortal Creation. The latter is the only one that I'm pretty sure I'll launch soon.
Do people tend to have multiple drafts at a time? If so, how many?
Checking in on this account after leaving the site, MAN that is a cringy forum post history. Daaamn. Never again. If you can juggle them, it doesn't rally matter. I'd think just one is stressful enough, but if all drafts are worked on, it should be fine as long as they-re not low-effort.
TroperWall / WikiMagic Cleanup![]()
I've had multiple (think I had Doves Mean Peace and Mechanical Animals going at the same time) although for me, it depends on motivation.
I recently noticed that a very large portion of people in the forums label themselves as neurodivergent, asexual, or both. Not That There's Anything Wrong with That, but i find this demographic factoid rather interesting, to say the least.
You keep using the term "POV". I do not think it means what you think it means.Almost every 1/4 (not a serious statistic) person in ATT or EB says they're neurodivergent or LGBT. Maybe we need an anonymous survey just for lulz.
TroperWall / WikiMagic CleanupWe did have Troper Demographics, but that was based on Google Analytics rather than polls.

The oldest version of that page was called Most Tropers Are Young Nerds, and it was based on an informal survey on the very page itself where tropers just added "yes I too am a young nerd!"
e: ... in fact, the move to Troper Demographics was well before the removal of that survey

Suddenly I'm... still rotating Fallen London in my mind even though I've stopped actively playing it.It takes a certain mindset to devote time to a website like this (whether out of real passion or boredom for anything else), and likely it's a mindset that we would call neurodivergent (which I'm not sure is quite right; "neurodiversity" is meant to be a way of looking at minds, not a classification system).
For the GSM proportion, I'm not sure if the demographic is more out of the norm in this respect, but I can say that those who are online more will be more aware of the movements and the terminology and are certainly likelier to identify that way.
Stories don't tell us monsters exist; we knew that already. They show us that monsters can be trademarked and milked for years.I have Asperger's myself, so I guess it fits. I know many tropers have mentioned being on the spectrum.
Works That Require Cleanup of Complaining | Troper WallAs a matter of fact, so am I.
Man, I already knew there must be a huge autism/ADHD concentration around here, but I never expected it to be this high. Again, I'm kinda amazed.

You keep using the term "POV". I do not think it means what you think it means.I mean, it's not a coincidence. The site's very design is built around elements that we would specifically find appeal in.
My musician pageSo I posted on the Seventh Sanctum Random Alignments
thread and Forum Games and...
I gotta say, I'm pretty amused on how our avatars and posts match each other.
SING TO ME, LEND ME THE SONG OF BLASPHEMYAfter making an offhand reference to Tomato in the Mirror earlier I wondered what long-forgotten pop culture reference it was named after. Turns out that
- A: The trope's name is derived from Tomato Surprise and
- B: Both names come from a 1980 literary magazine that named the trope before the site did.
Tomato in the Mirror also has nearly four times as many inbounds across the site, which is... huh.

🏳️⚧️she/her | Vio Rhyse AlberiaThe amount of neurodivergence makes sense for the reasons Shiny explained, and I wanna say there's research about why a lot of LGBTQ+ folk tend to pick up "nerdy" hobbies and congregate in those spaces as well? So both those statistics line up with TvTropes' purpose of being a nerd site that catalogues storytelling devices.

🏳️⚧️she/her | Vio Rhyse AlberiaI just finished wick cleanup for the British English redirect of Aluminum Christmas Trees (i.e., Aluminium Christmas Trees) and I feel that you could make a drinking game out of the amount of examples that begin with the word "Yes" before listing the fact about the thing that's presumed fictional (e.g., "Yes, [thing] actually existed"), but is actually real. There's probably more where that came from since I haven't worked on the main American English page name yet (and I'm taking a break because my back and shoulder hurt).
(And for the record, the fact that I don't drink alcohol and don't intend to start means I won't actually play such a drinking game, and those who do drink alcohol would probably die if they tried.)

I got a rock for Halloween.I'm pretty sure it's a bigger trend than Egregious, since I know for sure this sort of potholing is a frequent trend, while I can't remember the last time someone on the wiki used the word "egregious", ironically or otherwise.
You keep using the term "POV". I do not think it means what you think it means.Which “egregious” are we talking about? The word or our troper friend?
![]()
I recall "egregious" being used on a buttload of pages during the early years of the wiki, but that Running Gag became less popular later on (the page was either made in 2012 or moved from Main/ to JustForFun/ that year, and I'd say the word's usage decreased as the decade went on), so the Just for Fun page is kind of a relic from when its usage was more common. I'd say the sentence "You'll see this word used often, way too often, on this very wiki" on the JFF page adds to why it's kind of a relic, because I only see it occasionally, and almost every time I see it (if not every time), it links to the page for it instead of being plain text, which gives me the impression that people who still use it are aware it's a Running Gag.

I never know what kind of English to use on the site. I had one of my edits later changed when someone was adding their own entry, because it used a non-US spelling of yoghurt (which seems like a lot of work for not much reward), but at the same time, the UK variant is also fairly common, and is generally inconsequential, but I digress.
I think death of the author and all of that starts kicking in at this point, which means that it can be both a complete monster entry, and not be one at the same time.

I find it somewhat interesting that on YMMV.The Turner Diaries, there's an entry for Designated Hero that's written almost exactly like a Complete Monster entry. All the way down to the little details like potholing a trope in the character's name. I feel like the person who wrote it did it on purpose, since it ends with "In any other story he would be an easy Complete Monster candidate but he's seen as the hero of mankind in this story".
It makes me wonder if a character can count as a Complete Monster if the author never even intended them to be evil. I would ask the CM thread out of curiosity, but ... you probably know what's going on with the CM thread at the moment.
