Discuss TV Tropes itself, such as observations you've made about the site/forum/wiki.
NOTE: Keep it civil; try not to get into any Flame Bait-y territory, per the forum rules
(in particular, drama importation and popcorn posting are not allowed, and this thread is for discussion about the site and not the users). In addition, while discussing the Edit Banned thread is not prohibited on its own, discussing and/or alluding to specific ban/suspension cases is not permitted.
One thing I've noticed is that for all how the page for They Might Be Giants claims them to be the unofficial official band of this wiki, there's relatively few people on this site who seem to ever reference them.

Ah I see, I didn't think of checking for TRS threads. Thanks for the info.
Though I still think the description should reflect that change better if that's the case.

When you're alone I'm reaching out to let you know that you're far from strangers, like the saviorI just found out that Aluminum Christmas Trees is now a YMMV trope. Kind of feels like a Trivia one to me.
Come on! Let's bless them all until we get fershnickered!I'm not entirely sure why. ^_^;; Probably because of how finding out a fictional thing can be Real After All.
Come on! Let's bless them all until we get fershnickered!Whether or not it's surprising is YMMV, though. A work might feature some weird fish, and a layman might think "wow I didn't think fishes like that existed", but someone with a background in biology or aquatic ecology wouldn't find it surprising.

Yeah exactly
Trying to dewick/disambig Shes Got Legs, and the worst thing is how many of the overly-detailed creepy examples don't have enough context for me to tell if they count as a disambig trope
HAPPY HALLOWEEN FOR MARIANoticed this at You Can Keep Her!.
- Police Tales[[note]]A collection of supposedly true unverifiable very short stories originating in FidoNet.[[/note]] by Nikolay Fyodorov, story 55. ...
Speaking of which, I never understood why Acceptable Targets was YMMV because most of the examples I've seen are about groups of people who are objectively bashed in the content of works.

Because during the early years of TRS, two or three people saw that Unacceptable Targets was YMMV and thought that meant Acceptable Targets should be as well and went ahead and added it to the YMMV index, regardless of how Acceptable Targets was actually being used. That's not an exaggeration, and Septimus might have added a link to the thread in question on the discussion page when he marathoned browsing the TRS Morgue for the sake of referencing TRS discussions on discussion pages.
Higher standards would mean that wouldn't slide today (we need at least ten votes, and a mod has to give the go-ahead to do it instead of changes being made whenever the thread wants), and I'd gladly support a thread that proposed making Acceptable Targets and the Acceptable [subject] Targets subtropes objective (and possibly merging the subtropes with the supertrope, but I don't have as strong of an opinion on that as making them objective). They're already NRLEP due to a previous thread that didn't quite work out; I think the issue with that thread is that the way we went about trying to make it objective was looking at it from the wrong angle (originally the proposal was to do so via making it IUEO, but then we overturned that after being unable to figure out what IUEO would mean for it... and I regret not proposing we keep the objective aspect even if we dropped the IUEO aspect).
I don't think whether the audience (dis)agrees matters any more than the audience (dis)agreeing with the presence of a trope that's currently considered objective (such as a viewer's Pet-Peeve Trope being present in the work).

I got a rock for Halloween.I'm more concerned about the inevitable overlap with Take That! if the trope is made objective... And don't tell me that Take That! is for making fun of other media works, lol, if that was true then the subtropes would also be misuse and that's too far of a leap for me.
Anyway, we do have this thread
to discuss Acceptable Targets at.
I don't usually go on Trope Talk, but now that I know the thread exists, I'd say further discussion regarding Acceptable Targets should be taken there.
(Posted in mod mode to take the above suggestion to move discussion to Trope Talk and make it official.)

I got a rock for Halloween. The feeling of getting spoiled by following a page for ongoing work, though I knew the risks.
TroperWall / WikiMagic CleanupA lot of editors seem to think that a Base-Breaking Character is more mild version of The Scrappy.
Except it's not, a Base-Breaking Character is just someone the audience debates over, while The Scrappy is hated by a vast majority of fans. BBC's don't even need to be hated by anyone.
Working on: Author Appeal | Sandbox | Troper WallTypical Base-Breaking Character cases I see are the audience being polarized on how their ability/story arc was handled without saying that the character is disliked because of it.
TroperWall / WikiMagic Cleanup(
x7) oh I can definitely relate to that, I've been waiting years for Season 2 of BoBoiBoy Galaxy to get animated, and foresaw that maybe there'd be someone who is reading the BBBGLXS2 comics that I'm not buying. When it did start happening, however, I suppose I got indifferent to getting spoiled. The comics are gradually being updated online now but I'm not flocking to them to know what happens yet. Hm.

The typical Base-Breaking Character misuse I see, though, is a lengthy paragraph - or several - outlining all the reasons the character sucks, with a token ("but some people like them") tacked on at the end. Which is what I think captainpat's original post was getting at.

Yeah, Base-Breaking Character and Broken Base both see frequent misuse as "the fandom is angry about something", with no regard to whether there's a disagreement.
Suddenly I'm... still rotating Fallen London in my mind even though I've stopped actively playing it.

I thought TRS expanded it to include non-video game examples. I guess that kind of fell through. (There was a thread that I thought was supposed to be doing that, but I wasn't a mod at the time, and I'd rather start the effort from scratch it it came back to TRS, rather than bringing the old thread back, because the previous thread was started in 2019 and closed the following year.)
