Discuss TV Tropes itself, such as observations you've made about the site/forum/wiki.
NOTE: Keep it civil; try not to get into any Flame Bait-y territory, per the forum rules
(in particular, drama importation and popcorn posting are not allowed, and this thread is for discussion about the site and not the users). In addition, while discussing the Edit Banned thread is not prohibited on its own, discussing and/or alluding to specific ban/suspension cases is not permitted.
One thing I've noticed is that for all how the page for They Might Be Giants claims them to be the unofficial official band of this wiki, there's relatively few people on this site who seem to ever reference them.

It wasn't off-topic, though. That's why I said "aside from the post directly above [the mod post]".
Oh whoops. I think I misinterpreted what “aside from” meant.
@ Wick Checks:
I used to do mine the time-consuming and headache-inducing way of randomizing a list of numbers, copy and pasting the entire list into a separate document, deleting any non-wicks, numbering the list, and then very slowly scrolling down to each number I had to check. It was obnoxious. Now I pick them randomly from the related page itself, and it's a lot more fun / less frustrating.

I do it the way you used to do it, but then again, I didn't do any wick checks until earlier this year, so maybe it's a matter of finding a better way to do it after spending a while doing it.
Though in my case, I don't need to manually number the list because the text editors I use (I use Kate on Linux, which is my primary OS, and I use Notepad++ if I'm using Windows) automatically show the line numbers. I just take the wick from that line and copy and paste it into a sandbox (without removing it from the wick list to keep the numbering intact) once I get to it after scrolling through the list.

I got a rock for Halloween.I clone the Related tab into N++, shuffle, leave top 50, remove spaces to make wikiwords, paste into a sandbox, copypaste respective examples, and sort whenever I have the time.
I could do all that in Autohotkey, but I don't make wick checks that often to bother.
TroperWall / WikiMagic CleanupI also discovered a third way, which is to just randomize the list itself and use the wicks that come to the top.
Working on: Author Appeal | Sandbox | Troper WallThe main problem is that longer lists have to be randomized in batches, at least with the site I use. But oh well.

That's the way I did the only wick check I've done recently. The part that felt slowest was formatting the links to actually work and remove namespace headings after copying the Related page to the sandbox.

ERROR: The current state of the world is unacceptable. Save anyway? YES/NO
I remove them with the way I've been doing it so the lines are numbered correctly. Might not be necessary with other methods, though.

I got a rock for Halloween.I think I felt obliged to remove the headings because they made the sandbox ugly.
ERROR: The current state of the world is unacceptable. Save anyway? YES/NOlol
I do enjoy Wick Checks even though they can be tedious. There's something about the mystery of what's behind each link that gets me, especially if it's a work I've never heard of before.
Working on: Author Appeal | Sandbox | Troper WallI actually thought randomizing was the easy way haha. I used pick random wicks for my wicks checks for years but now I just use the randomizer, dump text into a sandboxes and work on the wick check every other day.
Macron's notesI need to do start doing wick checks. Might start with just those tropes which are starving. Pull the Plug on the Title definitely needs a look at.
I'm probably going to be doing many more wick checks in the future—as I said on the wick check thread, I am embarking on the Herculean task of wick checking every single trope on Tropes Needing TRS (that doesn't have one already) over a long period of time to clear out the massive backlog like we did with Pages Needing IP.
It'll be long and brutal, but I think in the end it will be 100% worth it.

Works That Require Cleanup of Complaining | Troper WallMy wick check process usually takes two hours, unless I start it and abandon it quickly. I close my eyes and randomly click on links to sort.
I do some cleanup and then I enjoy shows you probably think are cringe.I observe that now that this thread is no longer the observations thread, I keep scrolling past it

That's how I do it. Chloe's right though, I often end up checking not that many namespaces by accident, although there's also the additional problem that many namespaces end up being entirely potholes that lack context.
Eh, no-context potholes are as much a usage as anything, so I don't see the issue there. If there's enough, they can prove that the trope is being shoehorned or something.
I agree that namespace variance is an issue, so I do try and spring for some less common ones when I have the chance, but...

Oh crap sorry. Didn’t realize that my post was off topic. I apologize.
