Discuss TV Tropes itself, such as observations you've made about the site/forum/wiki.
NOTE: Keep it civil; try not to get into any Flame Bait-y territory, per the forum rules
(in particular, drama importation and popcorn posting are not allowed, and this thread is for discussion about the site and not the users). In addition, while discussing the Edit Banned thread is not prohibited on its own, discussing and/or alluding to specific ban/suspension cases is not permitted.
One thing I've noticed is that for all how the page for They Might Be Giants claims them to be the unofficial official band of this wiki, there's relatively few people on this site who seem to ever reference them.

TBH, applying for a Herald doesn't sound appealing anymore with that in mind.
TroperWall / WikiMagic CleanupIt's was never big deal to me since people rarely P Med me. Things changed now that I'm a mod though. I'm too lazy to go through and delete the messages.
But yeah those automated P Ms are the bulk of herald work.
Heralds are just greeters. We greet people via automated PM that informs them of what our designated subforum is about and answer any questions they may have on the subforums we herald. People rarely message us back but it's nice to have someone inform you of how each forum operates so heralding still has a purpose.

Macron's notesI just clear out my inbox once a year or so, the only reason I care at all is because I like to keep track of people I've sent notifiers to, and having to dig through the pile of herald stuff can get kind of annoying.
But yeah, herald work in general is pretty chill, people don't respond very often and when they do it's usually an easy question or a thank-you.
Working on: Author Appeal | Sandbox | Troper WallA reminder that the thread regarding Heralds is here
, which I'll use for another question shortly to not stack up here.
Yeah, that about sums it up. A person has to visit the specific sub-forum the Herald is assigned to for the message to go out, so we're not flooded with each and ever single new person who makes an account. It's actually kinda funny to see a person I know has been around for a long time elsewhere on the forums get a welcome message for Yack Fest or OTC.
Yeah but that deletes all of your messages. I don't think I'd want to nuke my inbox just clear it of herald PMs

Macron's notesRandom thought: Wouldn’t Saved by the Fans fit better under Trivia than YMMV? Since if a character really was saved by their popularity, that would be an objective truth instead of a subjective opinion.
I’m gonna put some Gloom in your eye.
Now that I think about it, I agree. I think that'd work under the same reasoning as the decision that moved Author's Saving Throw from YMMV to Trivia (with citations).
In fact, I initially mistook Saved by the Fans to be a Trivia trope because someone added it to a Trivia page (but I found it to be a dubious claim and it got re-added in an Edit War so it was removed
anyway.)
I think it would be ideal if the admins could give mods the ability to give out the sort of badges we can give ourselves (i.e., stuff like awards and herald badges, but not the ones that cost money before the badge shop was closed, which we can't give ourselves). If that happened, I'd gladly hand out herald badges to heralds who don't already have one.
And speaking of automated herald PMs, I've only sent out one so far. I'm guessing anyone who already received an automated PM from the previous herald before they resigned and I took the spot on an impulse won't receive one from me.

TroperWall / WikiMagic CleanupDoesn't work on Desktop or the phone. I'll send it to Query Bugs then.
TroperWall / WikiMagic CleanupI'm using a phone though. Not convinced it's not something that got changed with your individual settings.
