Discuss TV Tropes itself, such as observations you've made about the site/forum/wiki.
NOTE: Keep it civil; try not to get into any Flame Bait-y territory, per the forum rules
(in particular, drama importation and popcorn posting are not allowed, and this thread is for discussion about the site and not the users). In addition, while discussing the Edit Banned thread is not prohibited on its own, discussing and/or alluding to specific ban/suspension cases is not permitted.
One thing I've noticed is that for all how the page for They Might Be Giants claims them to be the unofficial official band of this wiki, there's relatively few people on this site who seem to ever reference them.

Space Gal
Some of the Video Overdosed stuff can be surprising - still can’t believe that there is so many videos of Central Park out there.
I just added banners to some pages that are under discussion on TRS, and I noticed that some threads' numbers have decimal points in them. I don't know when that started happening or why (I was kind of wondering if the change to the Content Policy violations forum and/or the changes to Image Pickin had side effects related to thread numbers), but when I saw the decimal point, I initially wondered if I made a mistake when copying and pasting the URL.
I got a rock for Halloween.
I noticed that myself recently when I was linking to a thread in a forum post (I think). Interesting—maybe we ran out of numbers?
The evolution of thread ID is very bizarre.

I know we make fun of many of the site's pedantic and complaining pages, but I think pages like the new Prop show that the site can be a pretty good door for literary analysis, history of cinema and fiction study. I actually learned quite a few things about the development and structure of fiction in some more serious pages, and the casual writing helps to broad the public.
oh hey how are you doing? When it comes to how the complaining is made a mockery of, at least TV Tropes is making an effort to purge it. This website isn't by all means perfect, but it has made vast improvements such as getting rid of all the natter.
As mentioned before, a lot of the recurring criticisms about the site stem from how things were in the dark ages / our wild west period / the early days / whatever you want to call it. Pretty much every major issue is something we're either in the process of stomping out, have already successfully stomped out, or are bad-faith takes that don't matter.
Working on: Author Appeal | Sandbox | Troper WallMeasuring the Marigolds is the only criticism i think might really have merit, and even that is down to people using the site in ways it's not intended for rather than the site itself.
True, that's part of the concept behind Tv Tropes Will Ruin Your Life so it's definitely a negative side-effect but does have more to do with how people react to learning about these patterns. Personally I haven't found my enjoyment of anything hampered at all, if anything I appreciate things I like even more because I can see all the fun plot threads and patterns and I enjoy that sort of thing. Sure, it shows me just how "same-y" everything might be but I choose to focus on the unique ways each work uses these tropes, because that's what I find most interesting (and is also why the ZCE rule has never felt redundant or strict to me).

Working on: Author Appeal | Sandbox | Troper WallMy idealised vision of this website is essentially "fandom geekery, laced with an addictive free sample of Intro to Media Literacy and Semiotics". :P
ERROR: The current state of the world is unacceptable. Save anyway? YES/NO...We seriously didn't have a page for Prop until this year? It's such a basic and well-established term that the 2022 launch date on a site that was started in 2004 is baffling.

I got a rock for Halloween. It's another one of those "so obvious nobody made it" pages.
Working on: Author Appeal | Sandbox | Troper WallI suppose when a concept is so broad, it may come across as hard to encapsulate in trope form.
My musician pageAdmittedly that's been a problem for me. I have some ideas that I know for a fact are patterns and could be tropeworthy, the issue is that actually describing what's in my head and why it's tropeworthy is much more difficult. Several drafts of mine have gone Up For Grabs simply because I couldn't do the concepts justice or explain them well. I've learned I work best with more simplistic concepts.
So it wouldn't surprise me if other people have a similar problem.
