Discuss TV Tropes itself, such as observations you've made about the site/forum/wiki.
NOTE: Keep it civil; try not to get into any Flame Bait-y territory, per the forum rules
(in particular, drama importation and popcorn posting are not allowed, and this thread is for discussion about the site and not the users). In addition, while discussing the Edit Banned thread is not prohibited on its own, discussing and/or alluding to specific ban/suspension cases is not permitted.
One thing I've noticed is that for all how the page for They Might Be Giants claims them to be the unofficial official band of this wiki, there's relatively few people on this site who seem to ever reference them.

Sometimes stopping thread derails can be maddening. I generally don't handle Edit Banned cases, but I'd imagine that would be even more maddening, so props to the mods who do handle that stuff.
Well, not having to pay for the site's ad subscription to be ad free because you are a mod is one minor perk.
Macron's notesY'all should definitely get compensated for the psychological damages.
I don't know why but this actually reminds me of a time I edited a page to change the phrase "spay and neuter" to "spray and neuter" because I didn't know the word spay was a thing. Somebody reverted it back, obviously, but they were extremely rude about it, informing me in the edit reasons that I should "learn english" (on the record I am a native English speaker and have been known to frequently engage in Sesquipedalian Loquaciousness). Kind of regretting not reporting them but this was a while back so it feels too late and would make it look like I'm holding a grudge over something petty.

That is true.
Spaying is the female equivalent of neutering, the latter of which is for male animals. Spraying is what male cats do when they aren't neutered, so I suppose "spray and neuter" could be be used in the context of before-and-after when having a cat neutered.

I got a rock for Halloween.Does the site still do the little banner thing at the bottom where it asks you to turn off your adblocker or pay to not see ads because it doesn't do that for me anymore.
Read Pokemon Ultimate EmeraldOh shit, ya'll get a free no-ad deal? That almost seems worth the endless stress. Maybe. A little.

I assure you that being a mod actually isn't as stressful as it sounds, especially once you get used to it. For me it was a matter of sticking to a specific niche (maintenance; mainly TRS), particularly because the only major change from what I was doing before I was a mod was that I had more control over the decision-making process.
I admit I was a bit stressed out in the early months, but a lot of that had to do with physical health problems affecting my site activity (such as a nasty cold I had back in the middle of December).

I got a rock for Halloween. Not surprised. Those higher up in the staff hierarchy get quality-of-life perks for free that us regular users would either have to pay for, or worse, don't get at all. It's just how it is.
I imagine the admins have it better than the mods because they're literally at the top.

Did it by chance say something like "We get it. You're not here for ads." or something like that? Because I remember once getting a message like that before I had an account here.

I’m gonna put some Gloom in your eye.Admittedly I'm probably more prone to stress than the average person, but I'd definitely struggle a lot personally so I have trouble not imagining the job being insane.
Working on: Author Appeal | Sandbox | Troper Wall![]()
I don't remember the specifics but it was something like "This is the X page you've viewed with Adblock on, please turn off your Adblock or buy our thing".
I have the ad free subscription, so my information is second-hand, but from what I understand currently the banner only shows up if you have adblock and aren't signed in whereas it used to show up even if you were signed in with adblock. I believe the change was made, if I'm not wrong about it actually being made at all, because of problems with seriously malicious ads that users could not just tolerate, like full page coverers and auto redirects. IDK if they're currently as major a problem; I've not heard nearly so many complaints in a long time.
My musician pageSo, seeing the high amount of wicks that needed to be cleaned up after Nice Hat was dropped, I want to ask. Which cut trope holds the record for most amount of wicks that needed to be cleaned up after it was cut?
I’m gonna put some Gloom in your eye.![]()
It might have actually been Nice Hat, or at least that's the one with the highest wick count since I started posting on TRS in 2017, though I'm pretty sure Ear Worm had over 8000 wicks before it was made In-Universe Examples Only and its out-of-universe wicks (which was most of them at the time) were removed.
I have an adblocker on and I don't get the message.
Works That Require Cleanup of Complaining | Troper WallWell, Up To Eleven had about 20-30k+ wicks to clean before it got merged into Exaggerated Trope. It's 12k now because people are still cleaning the wicks.

Macron's notes
Oh, right, I didn't even think about Up To Eleven, because it and Hilarity Ensues had their threads closed without wick cleanup being required for the threads to close because their threads decided it wasn't worth the effort, similarly to how the more longtime mods gave up on purging the wiki of Incredibly Lame Pun wicks after its definition was moved to Lame Pun Reaction and the old name turned into a redirect to Pun.
Edit: I checked and Incredibly Lame Pun doesn't have as many wicks as Up To Eleven, so maybe dewicking it isn't as unthinkable as was previously thought. (I'm not going to make anyone do it, but at the same time, I won't stop anyone who's brave enough to do it.)

I got a rock for Halloween.I found a new xkcd Wikipedia game loop!
Recurring Character <-> Living Prop
Read Pokemon Ultimate EmeraldI've seen a few tropes, like Brown Note, where the "see also/compare/contrast" is a paragraph/slab of text, which can be difficult to read.
Would it make sense for them to be separated out by dot-points, or something of that nature? Since I'm not sure if there's a style guideline or something that they might be expected to follow.

Minus expenses.
