Discuss TV Tropes itself, such as observations you've made about the site/forum/wiki.
NOTE: Keep it civil; try not to get into any Flame Bait-y territory, per the forum rules
(in particular, drama importation and popcorn posting are not allowed, and this thread is for discussion about the site and not the users). In addition, while discussing the Edit Banned thread is not prohibited on its own, discussing and/or alluding to specific ban/suspension cases is not permitted.
One thing I've noticed is that for all how the page for They Might Be Giants claims them to be the unofficial official band of this wiki, there's relatively few people on this site who seem to ever reference them.

No, that was just a coincidence, I'm talking about things like this discussion
where an entirely separate example was brought up out of nowhere.
I genuinely don't know which thread you're talking about. If I posted in that thread, then I completely forgot about that incident.

I got a rock for Halloween.I have clear memories of it happening, it was a huge clusterfuck, but yeah I don't recall which thread it was. I could dig through the morgue and might later.
Edit: While I don't think I found the exact thread I was discussing, I did re-read the conversation about Bi The Way which did have some crowner shenangigans, including a glitch

I can't provide any insight as to what happened there, since with the new crowner system, the hook button also creates a new crowner (meaning the glitch that happened in that thread can't happen with the new system, as far as I know), as opposed to how the old system was set up so crowners were hooked after they were created.

I got a rock for Halloween.I don't even remember the exact scenario, just that Berrenta called the crowner instead of hooking and then things got weird from there.
Anyway, yeah, threads of the past have had a lot of wild crowner scenarios. The one good thing to come out of the current crowner system is that people can't just throw things together willy-nilly.
Working on: Author Appeal | Sandbox | Troper WallI don't remember that at all, but it's possible it was before my time.
Working on: Author Appeal | Sandbox | Troper WallI think only a few entries of Apocalypse How actually follow the Type Labels Are Not Examples guideline.
oh hey how are you doing?RE: https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/posts.php?discussion=13646132210A95550100&page=346#comment-8634
I do wonder for multi-work pages Iike that, whether it would make sense to split each work off, linked by a series page instead, or sub-pages of the series page, even if there aren't a lot of tropes around, and leave the series page for tropes that apply to the whole thing.
The way we have it now might be confusing for crosswicking, and would clog up if we have the same name for an entry across multiple series.
The book Lirael from The Old Kingdom might be TheOldKingdom/Lirael instead, or Series/Enterprise would be Franchise/StarTrek/Enterprise.
That way, if there's another book named Lirael, we're not going to have conflicts.

everyone in this thread
is talking about slapstick "knowing gender" and im just picturing like this wise Slapstick Oracle who helps people work through their gender identity issues
That, and my newfound knowledge of the Slime Girl trope, makes me wonder why we have so many "X, but female" tropes. Like... were girls really considered that fascinating by tropers back in the day, or am I missing something?
(Okay, Slapstick Knows no Gender is one thing, I'm more talking about things like Slime Girl, Robot Girl, and the now-defunct Biker Babe.)
Working on: Author Appeal | Sandbox | Troper WallI just thought that Slime Girl was common form of Cute Monster Girl and wasn't surprised that someone split it off. As for it being needed or not...I think a Slime People trope would have been better (if that's a thing).
Edited by MacronNotes on Aug 10th 2022 at 4:44:00 AM
Macron's notesThe examples are what really confuse me since half of them are just "woman is a member of a slime race" or "woman is turned into slime".
Working on: Author Appeal | Sandbox | Troper WallWell, there's a lot of tropes that were forever considered Always Female. Only recently many of them got to Rare Male Example and eventually unrestricted.
I don't know an example of male slimes personally. Well, maybe That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime — Rimuru Tempest, but that one's complicated.

TroperWall / WikiMagic CleanupEh, that's not even the problem IMO, the problem is more that I just don't see "female slime monster" as an inherently tropeworthy concept since it essentially just boils down to "Blob monster, but a girl". It's just one of those old-school tropes that seems to miss the mark, as it seems to be just a thing that exist in a few unrelated forms and not anything with actual purpose.
I don't mind Cute Monster Girl as much since it at least tries to justify itself.

Working on: Author Appeal | Sandbox | Troper WallNeither are many of the examples that I found just by skimming. Some of them even include normal women that end up as slime monsters and blob creatures. (Even then, IDK why being humanoid would make it more tropeworthy if it can't explain why such a thing exists...)
I may do a check for this trope just to humor myself. I don't think I have any justification for TRS, but I'm curious now.

Working on: Author Appeal | Sandbox | Troper WallWell the non-humanoid examples should be moved out then.
Tropes require history recaps? Why it is a trope looks self-evident to me. Maybe its description could be more detailed, like about shapeshifting abilities or immunity to pierce attacks and being harmed by salt, but at this point this will become a Trope Talk topic.
TroperWall / WikiMagic CleanupNot a history recap, just justification, since, well... tropes have purposes for existing and I'm not convinced Slime Girl does. It's about it being chairsy, tbh. If a trope can't explain why it's used, even if the explanation is just "fanservice" or something, then it's hard for me to believe it's not just "trait + other trait".
Anyway I wasn't trying to get into a debate about this specific trope, just stating a weird pattern where "concept, but female" seems to be considered an inherently tropeworthy idea, or at least it used to.
Working on: Author Appeal | Sandbox | Troper WallWell, looks like the trope was created without TLP as a stub so it was never peer reviewed prior to being created but considering it's age, that probably doesn't matter that much.

Macron's notesI'm with WarJay here, Slime Girl just seems like The Same, but More Specific of other tropes.
Tbh I never really hated his minigames in the original, but they did make them better in the remake.
Yikes! How does that bode for troping it in media if it's meant for Fetish Fuel?

Which honestly I would be on-board with being made.
