Not enough information on either. It really depends on whether or not Taiyang already knows and how their relationship was, but part of me hopes the reunion is a bit like the one with Stoick and Valka.

That's Qrow, not Taiyang.
I'm curious too about Raven and Taiyang? Where they ever married? Did she divorce him or just leave him? Did he think she was dead? How did he end up with Summer? What did Qrow think of all this?
My theory for a while has been that Raven left basically right after she gave birth, and Summer stepped in as a friend to help Taiyang deal with the loss and a newborn. About a year and a half later their relationship has advanced, Ruby is conceived, and they're officially together (even if they're not actually married) to the point that Yang thought Summer was her biological mother. Then Summer disappears, Taiyang explains things to Yang, and he just shuts down because he doesn't have any support this time.
Still have no idea why Raven left, though. She might be a villain, though I'll accept her just being a dickish hero.

Writing a post-post apocalypse LitRPG on RR. Also fanfic stuff. My guess is that Taiyang didn't tell Yang anything, and it was Qrow who revealed the truth to Yang about her biological mother.
The way she talks about her father shutting down because he'd lost two loves, it doesn't seem like a person would describe about themselves. Not to a kid, anyway, and not at the time. It sounds like something Qrow would say, however, and Yang does seem to open up to Qrow about her mother, rather than anyone else.
Because I believe Qrow did the conversation, I sometimes speculate about whether Taiyang is aware of how much Yang knows about Raven. Given that Yang waited until her father was gone to pack herself and Ruby off on her quest to find her mother, and it was Qrow who saved them, I also wonder how aware of that event he is.
If he was fragile during that period of time, he might know less than we think.
If my post doesn't mention a giant flying sperm whale with oversized teeth and lionfish fins for flippers, it just isn't worth reading.Reasons I can think of for Raven leaving (other than her being a villain) range from blackmail, to discovering some dark secret, to semblance incontinence, to being a maiden.

Point.
That's what I thought originally, but the fact that she sent her brother to tell her daughter "I'm not gonna save you again" raises her dickishness so much that it's hard to give her the benefit of the doubt. I mean she's a teleporter. If anyone can pop in for a quick chat, it's her.
On the other hand, she at least went through the trouble of sending a message at all and made it clear what to expect of her as a parent. So she's better than most anime parents, if nothing else.

So, you know, not The absolute worst.
Oh yeah, she's far from the worst-
Did someone just call this an anime?

I'M MR. MEESEEKS, LOOK AT ME!I was not calling this an anime, no. Just using the vast majority of anime parents as examples of parents worse than Raven.
That said, the term "anime" is literally just an abbreviation of the English loan-word animeeshon. Ask someone in Japan if Tom & Jerry is anime and they will say yes. If Monty considered it anime, that's good enough for me.
That thing is is the worst "parent", period. You need not restrict it to just anime.
