By the way guys, I listed the White Fang as Unintentionally Unsympathetic in YMMV pages:

* Unintentionally Unsympathetic: The White Fang as a whole. The organization is described as being a victim of humanity's discrimination on Faunus discrimination, and that they are driven to extreme and violent methods for their rights. Here's the problem: Firstly, the audience never sees any Faunus discrimination in the series outside of very few characters, all of which are either a outright villain or designed to be Hate Sink. To make things worse, they are introduced breaking up a peaceful protests by...fellow Faunus. If they were meant to be sympathetic (which they clearly are), writers did something seriously wrong if their closest real life equivalent is ISIS/Daesh.

Is this entry cool or unwarranted?

If they were meant to be sympathetic (which they clearly are)

Are we reeeaally sure they are meant to be sympathetic? Not just "can understand what led them to this path" but truly, sincerely sypathetic?

[up][up]I say keep it in. The White Fang are Jerk Asses outside of Blake. The big question is, how much of this was from before Cinder took over and how much worse did she make them?.

[up][up] They seem like it, judging from Oobleck's quotes from Season 1 and Blake's repeated defense of them.

I think Oobleck spoke about faunus discrimination in general, but I should probably rewatch that scene to refresh memory. As for Blake, I would say she deluded herself.

Oh, he did. It's just that he described the White Fang as one of the products of Faunus discrimination.

As for Blake, while she is deluded nobody called her out of it just yet, so I think it's safe to assume that they are meant to be seen as misguided.

I don't think the White Fang is supposed to be sympathetic. We've already had Sun point out that the White Fang set themselves up as the voice of faunus without permission from ordinary faunus, and he had nothing good to say about them, and did not like the reasoning for why the White Fang wear masks. We also have Oobleck point out that going to extremes is very bad, using the White Fang as an example - while he expressed disgust with ill-treatment of anyone with faunus heritage, he was also clear that the White Fang are completely in the wrong.

We've been told that the current White Fang leadership turned on their own to obtain leadership so that they could enact their own agenda. We've also had at least two White Fang defectors, along with the information that White Fang has zero tolerance for defection - Mercury and Emerald may have killed Tukson, but Cinder indicated that the reason Roman was supposed to do it was because it was the White Fang who put the hit out and Cinder's team was supposed to do it for them as part of their alliance.

I think the White Fang are intentionally portrayed as unsympathetic.

My guess about Ironwood's fate is that he's grounded and has survived the cockpit, but he's going to be roughed up in a way that reveals the truth about his arm. I'm afraid that's all I see the cockpit scene being - a set-up to reveal his arm.

You know, I really do hope they do more to show discrimination against Faunus, and confirm the fanon that faunus enjoy significantly better rights in Vale than in the other kingdoms. It's the same issue with Legend Of Korra in the first season (never watched the others), where you had a totally-not-communist revolution going on, and no real indication that the working class was all that oppressed, or that there was anything seriously wrong with society; revolutions, terrorism, and general unrest are symptoms of serious problems in a society.

There can be behind the scenes racism that isn't "In the street, you filthy animal" or "Oh, cat ears... I'm sorry, we don't serve your kind" obvious. There may have been a faunus rights movement in years past that doesn't get casually mentioned. I imagine Mistral being the overly racist nation. Atlas seems too militaristic to worry about animal traits (night vision might be useful for Special Operations), Vacuo seems to casual to be bothered, and Vale is... Vale.

Now I'm imagining a "Faunus Lives Matter" event happening.

@Will: Atlas is also the home of the SDC, an extremely controversial energy conglomerate infamous for its treatment of its faunus workers, so I'd say Atlas is likely the most overt about it. Perhaps raw dust causes (dust based) electronics to go haywire, meaning it needs to be mined like hand. Something like that would pretty much inevitably lead to something resembling slavery or serfdom, though probably not called as much.

Sorry for being late on this one, but since I made the joke WMG about why RWBY is going dark is because of Cloud being released for Smash Bros, and seeing the reply of Bayonetta would stomp the Grimm Dragon makes me think of SSB characters partaking in the battle of Beacon...

Fox and Falco would be destroying the White Fang ships (possibly Adam too), while Mega Man and Sonic would take the Altas military. (Now the thought of Sonic being nearby when Blake confronts Adam seems hilarious)

And I can imagine Pit and Dark Pit taking on Grimm.

Amber!Pyrrha: Girls these days and their coy silliness. Back in my days, we wouldn't bother with all these getting close and dates and other nonsenses. We would just ride our horse and snatch up the boys we fancied.
