Glad to hear it. Hopefully making it more accessible and releasing more merch will start building momentum.

Item 1 A new episode of RWBY Evermorrow is out. In this drought for RWBY content, this was a welcome surprise. And I'm going to be honest I like the trajectory for this "additional Beacon arc" more than how the show just moved on with Volume 3.

Item 2 now hear me out on this

Hoyoverse-directed RWBY game. I just looked up Zenless Zone Zero and by god could you even imagine a RWBY title in that style with that business model?

Give it some pretentious-sounding title like RWBY Huntsmen and Huntresses let the player design their own fairy tale/myth inspired avatar, and let them go hog-wild in a bunch of instanced dungeons.

Question, what do you think should be an ideal movie adaptation of RWBY? Live-action that is.

[up]I honestly don't think there's an ideal way to adapt the series into live action.

At least not successfully.

RWBY was pretty made for the world of animation, especially anime or animesque.

[up][up] Honestly, a truncated adaptation that is similar to Ladybug & Cat Noir: The Movie in that it compresses the Salem saga into one movie and gets the basics downpat.

How about if each film adapts a volume each?

Risky. We're looking at a 9+ Volume show that has to be adapted into a film series. While there are tons of film franchises out there, there's just as many that have died just as they are getting started. For every Harry Potter, we get a Chronicles of Narnia and a Golden Compass. For every Marvel Cinematic Universe, we get a DCEU and a Dark Universe.

And this is the company that talked about how expensive it is to make one episode of RWBY.

Damn.

In that case, what should be the ideal volumes to adapt?

"Ruby decides to lie to Ironwood for no real reason (as in, there was no real benefit to her lying to him aside from breaking his trust). "

Kinda and kinda not? Ruby see some serious sus vibes on ironwood who: lock down the country, retire the army, demand mantle to work witout updating their defense or explain why and later pretty much demand loyalty he did not give to ozpin by double crossing.

Gninja is right: the entire Atlas arc it about trust, both James and RWBY kinda whine about how bad Ozpin was about keping tap on them and how THEY will totally honest about stuff and not be manipulative....and it kinda break that. in RWBY turn they learn that...yeah sometimes YOU cant just trust people. it not as easy as just "you are pak, you get to stay", James demanded loyalty he did not give and RWBY learn the hard way the issues about secrets.

Issue it the arc kinda frame as james vs RWBY rather than "how james and RWBY take being on ozpin shoes"

" but certain parts of the fandom definitely liked Ironwood more than Ruby"

While probably some part of that it feel james is more intersting that ruby and part of that are writter fault: Ruby got out of focus for a lot of volumes, her speeches come as naive at best and severaly bad at worst(like EVERYONE here agree her speeches are bad) and her solution often feel "well just save everyone". In contrast, James was expected to be the typical military hardass general reaper and...he wasnt, so people grivate to him.

"And the context of the situation has changed substantially since the time several weeks ago when they intended to put the Lamp in the Vault."

Yeah, that is the issue here: it look salem have being defeated only to show that in fact she played them all along and she is at the doorstep meaning that they fail and now Salem impose a moral dilema on them, fully expected them to clash and clash they did.

[up] or really, just RWBY in general haven't had a lot of proactive moments compared to other, more popular characters and the few times they do get those moments, they then become Satellite Characters for a lengthy chunk of time.

Meanwhile, one of the first things we learn of what Ironwood is up to is that he had been setting up a means to not just restore communication but also outright tell the world (gradually) about Salem since keeping her a secret was something that even Qrow admitted worked to her benefit.

During that moment, the most RWBY was trying to do was get the Lamp to Atlas so that they can deal with it instead, and that was just them Just Following Orders from Ozpin... Who they realized had been deceiving them and shouldn't be trusted....

Speaking of the Lamp, that's another major reason RWBY hadn't been as likeable as the side characters. Even when they try to be proactive, the majority of the time is then going in the aftermath of someone else's work and going "I did this."

Case in point, the Battle of Haven where a majority of the time was spent with them getting stomped. However, they claimed they "won" it despite that the only reason they did was because the two instigators fought each other and then Yang asked the winner And Then What?.

Same with a majority of their pre-Creation plans (not that many of them really succeeded), as Pietro, Penny, and Maria handled launching Amity, Hazel and Oscar took down Salem (temporarily) and Whitley not only took out the Hound but also called down rescue planes. The less said about Jaune and his many, many, many roles he played, the better.

Hell, even when they play a proactive role, the show seems to go out of its way to make it All for Nothing at best or makes them Mike Nelson, Destroyer of Worlds at worst. RWBY going out of their way to stop the White Fang breaching Vale? Failed and Ironwood takes the helm. Going off to see the Headmaster of Mistral? He knows jack and shit and now they're waiting to get ambushed. Trying to save everyone in Atlas and Mantle? They forgot about Cinder who nukes a good chunk of them, then for good measure some of them get picked off by Grimm. Oh, and Penny. Then Salem does a victory lap on Vale.

Ending this on a side note: kinda hard to say "you can't trust everyone" when literally just moments before the only indicator you had to trust the person who manipulated your friend into murdering Penny was "I saw some colorful petals on her, trust me bro".

[up]Eh the Atlas thing is kind of a bad faith argument. Cinder knowing their plan wasn't something they could have realistically known or accounted for and eve putting that aside they still ultimately took the people of Atlas and Mantle from a situation where all of them would die, to one where only some of them died.

I would say the big issues is Team RWBY failing to achiever things, but they don't really make the situation worse. Even with said failures, it honestly seems to be more a problem of the plot bending over backwards to ensure they don't make any headway, rather than they themselves being at fault in those situations. Like every time RWBY actually achieve something the plot goes "lol that didn't count". They put an end to the White Fang and Adam, the plot say "lol they were fodders who don't matter". They stop Salem getting the relic, the plot says "lol the relic is actually a useless burden for you and Salem will get later anyway".

Anyway as for Ruby herself while I think the problem of her being badly underdeveloped is very much a thing, I think this whole "she's the one in the wrong", some people have going on is complete bullshit.

For a movie, a reimagining or a DBZ-style movie where its a new adventure in the universe works better.

I would probably adapt volumes 1 to 3, but with some big changes for pacing and closure. The intro during the credits is the dust shop robbery with Ruby. Then, the girls meet at Beacon during initiation. I would montage most of the class stuff and set it to their theme music. I would probably introduce their combat styles during this part with a match against Team JNPR.

The first big change in terms of the story is moving the Weiss/Blake fight to during the mission at Mountain Glenn/Breach. Then, start to patch things up afterwards. Also, Ruby would use her silver eyes on the train to petrify some Grimm as foreshadowing for the climax. Additionally, Cinder (the audience sees but not necessarily the characters) should be seen here planning things). Then slow transition to the tournament. All the focus on Team RWBY's matches with some very short cut overs to other teams like JNPR.

The fall of beacon should be the climax but it needs to be more bittersweet in case there isn't a sequel. I would also have it be Yang, Weiss, and Blake versus Adam to tie all of those plot lines together. Yang still loses in arm, but the three of them do manage to drive him back alongside the approaching Winter and Crow. It is also why I would have Cinder reveal her Grimm powers here and have her get defeated and then petrified by Ruby alongside the dragon.

If there is a sequel, Cinder's role can easily be handed off to any of the other villains without losing anything. But, having her get defeated and most of the Grimm removed would make the ending feel more hopeful but also Cinder's Grimm arm would be a good sequel hook especially if Cinder mentions that her "fairy godmother" gave it to her.

[up][up][up]It rather than RWBY have a way to make the plot move in way it dosent feel the chararter action matters.

Ruby found torchwick by accident and yang got save by Raven and Blake just stomp roman but it didnt matter later and so on.

as I always see, the entire series is very much plot over chararters.

I really hope for an Animation Bump of sorts because in the hiatus between Volume 9 and whenever Volume 10 comes out (since they said early writing, meaning that they haven't even gotten started on plotting out the Volume) we've had several small-time 3D modellers come on and blow people's minds with animation on par with the Oum days of RWBY, one of them was even highly requested to buy RWBY when RT bit the dust.

If it's basically back to "sit and wait/talk, conserve our budget for at least one or two big minute long fights near the end of the Volume and sprinkle in some thirty second spouts here and there" business as usual, it's gonna end up lagging behind.

Kerry's still at the helm largely, and both Kiersi and Eddy (the two that joined in v7) have confirmed they're back for it.

No word yet from Miles, he is living in the UK now so that might complicate things. Would be sad if he's not involved, he's genuinely pretty damn good at stuff like horror with the grimm.

I am curious about the pacing going forward. I feel like it could be possible to wrap up the entire Salem plot in one volume but I don't know if there are plans for an 11th volume.

We also don't know how long the volume will be, or even the episodes. 12 episodes of 25 minutes each would give them more to work with than what they've had before.

They could probably finish it up in one volume no matter what, but there are still lingering plot threads besides Salem herself. We still haven't seen two relics (only one of which is supposed to be in Vacuo), we're missing one Maiden (who could easily be in Vacuo, so that's easy), the question of whether the gods will come back, so on and so on.
