Apropos of nothing, something I thought folks here might appreciate just hit me today. In an original story idea I've been working off and on with for some time now I named two of my lead characters Ren and Ruby. What strikes me as funny here is that both names predate my interest in RWBY.
In my case, Ruby was a Pokemon reference while Ren was based on "wrench" due his role being a Spanner in the Works for the setting. This in mind I may change Ren to something else (Ruby has enough In universe significance to keep) but I may try for a good name starting with a T as, with the other two main members being Barnes and Lei, I can get a deliberate RWBY reference out of it with TRBL.
Is there anything else for there to be news for? Volume 5 will likely be out in the Fall like the past volumes.
Let the joy of love give you an answer! Check out my book! It's predictable...so it's good news.
Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice.I suppose the main thing we'll be waiting for is whether or not they'll do the Chibi release format for Volume 5. I doubt we'll know that until closer to the time, however.
Oh, and I suppose that, with the release of the Volume 4 DVD, we might soon start hearing about some of the DVD commentaries.
If my post doesn't mention a giant flying sperm whale with oversized teeth and lionfish fins for flippers, it just isn't worth reading.Oh hahahahahaha.

Armed and Ready. I get it now.

I'M MR. MEESEEKS, LOOK AT ME!Yeah, the people at RT are well aware of the standard Idiosyncratic Ship Naming going on in the FNDM. Just look at that one Volume 2 episode where RWBY fight Torchwick in that prototype Paladin for proof. Using an existing ship name to refer to a different ship would be a dick move.

Isn't Spacebattles basically just Fan Wank outside of the fanfiction boards?
'cause I think that's why they're convinced of something blatantly wrong.

Everything sounds better in 8-bit.
Play it at 1.25 speed.
Huh, weird, this folder works for some reason.
The heroine is armed and ready.
Yang looks like a final boss in some kind of Undertale fangame.
Why did they go full 3D beat'em up? They should have made a 32-bit sidescrolling RWBY beat'em up, or platformer. Something in the vein of Crawl.

I'M MR. MEESEEKS, LOOK AT ME!Folders are being weird. Even when I'm not posting multiple videos under a folder, it gets buggy and doesn't open. Shrug.
(2) In my defense I hadn't watched the finale since it premiered
and I went to make myself something to eat right at the credit roll. So now I'm just browsing RWBY songs thinking about the titles and I click on A&R and I'm head-banging at the first 50 seconds and when I look up, I see that picture of Yang and I just... I just lose it and my head nearly hits the table. Damn it Barbara.

"Never let the truth get in the way of a good story." TwitterI binged Volumes 1-3 recently and it's kind of amazing how this show survived past Volume 1.
The early animation is so horrible outside of fight scenes, and said fight scenes are surprisingly infrequent when the show was billed for its action. You have Episode 1, then you have to wait for 4-5ish episodes before the next real fight scene. After that you have "Players and Pieces" (admittedly the best fight of the Volume, and possibly one of the best in the entire series), but then you have another dry period of 8ish episodes until the last fight in "Black and White" (also the finale of Volume 1). Not helping matters is the wait between these action-free episodes for however long only to get more nothing of what you were promised.
Like I understand it can't be all action all the time and people are legitimately invested in the story, but considering how the show was advertised and how it started it's kind of bizarre how it's still around and became as popular as it is.
Not trying to diss anybody invested in the story/characters/setting/whatever since there's legitimate stuff to be invested in, I'm just surprised we've gotten this far considering the show's foundation.
It's not that surprising when you consider:
- It's animu. More importantly, it's free animu.
- Rooster Teeth already had a sizable fanbase from doing Red vs Blue and they piggybacked RWBY's first trailer at the end of RVB's 8th season.
- Monty Oum was already quite well-known for doing superior animations like Dead Fantasy and Haloid. His name alone invites.
- It's actually not that bad and the crazy concept of Little Red Riding Hood with a sniper rifle/scythe in a fantasy Magi Tech world with The Heartless grabs the attention. It has a visual style that dances between incredibly awesome and somewhat terrifying, which is more than enough to incite interest.
- The episodes are short and therefore you're not wading through hours of crappy animation before hitting Season 2 when it starts to improve.
- The first few trailers showed off superior animation and the first episode had a cool fight in it. First impressions are important because they hook your audience and convince them to ride out the rest out of the story, even if they do find flaws later.
- I'd argue it was also quite lucky that Monty had already worked for Rooster Teeth and earned enough favor to get his own project funded and produced in-house.
What's surprising is that people actually paid for the first season DVD and merch back when they first released. I would not have paid for the first season's DVD. The soundtrack, maybe.
The animation isn't the best but the show has a unique aesthetic. A lot of the musical themes and still images are rather pretty and inviting, so while the show is billed as action-comedy, you've got to look at it for more than just what it's lacking.
If people actually sit down to watch South Park or Aqua Teen Hunger Force then poor animation isn't really what kills a show's popularity. Poor marketing, weak writing, and getting on the wrong end of a tumblr user's opinions about whatever the current social issues are is what does that.

I'M MR. MEESEEKS, LOOK AT ME!Which it didn't. It did in Volume 3 but not in Volume 2.
I really miss Dead Fantasy. Not only was it insanely awesome, we were actually getting into some plot stuff. Then RWBY happened and then Monty died.
