As one saying goes, "A stunning first impression was not the same thing as love at first sight. But surely it was an invitation to consider the matter."
What I speak of is an ideal. It's okay to make mistakes, but it's not ideal. It's just better to do well from out the gate and build on a strong foundation than it is to start weak and grow as a storyteller as you keep working. I'm not saying it won't happen and it's not okay to, just that okay and ideal are two different things. Stuff like that helps give me a standard and a conscious means of what to do with a particular story, why, and so on.
That's why I'm not fond of that phrase. Plus with every season of rwby, they strike me as creators who are either okay with just being okay or aren't as good as some people make them out to be. It always feels as if their issues are swept under the rug by those into them. While I can settle for that with shows like rwby as nothing is perfect, I don't pretend that I'm not settling and that they couldn't have done better.
Also, to add in before someone reads into something, I consider the best works so strong that the pros outweigh the cons by a large amount. I can't ever say that about rwby, but I can say it does what little I expect of it and still stuff I like.

(2 or 3) I don't think most of those take longer than 10 episodes to get exciting. Breaking Bad even starts In Media Res to get the audience into Walt and Jesse's hijinks right away.

I'M MR. MEESEEKS, LOOK AT ME!I didn't go into details with his examples since I haven't experienced them all. I do know Breaking Bad doesn't belong on that list since it starts strong. I also don't think Red vs. Blue should be held as an ideal as it's such a derisive series. I have seen it due to my sister forcing me to watch it. I disliked seasons 1 through 5. I knew I wasn't fond of it back in 1, but I kept getting told to stick it out. Then at 4 I got tired, tuned out for some time, and then only paid attention again around 6 and up for some parts. And even if I don't feel is as great as some make it out to be.
At any rate, nothing is entitled to anyone's viewership. The sooner you earn it, the better.

Improving as an author, one video at a time.I do have to agree with Prime's final point. No medium or work is owed people giving it more of a chance than they want to. You can disagree and think people should give something more a chance but arbitrary rules like "give it 10 episodes.chapters" don't mean much.
I've never even heard it brought that far though. I've heard give something three episodes and if you're not even mildly interested just stop, which sounds much more reasonable, but even then, is just a suggestion not a hard and fast rule.
Just popping in to say that I dropped the series midway through Volume 3 because I thought the plot, animation, and fight choreography took a huge hit after Monty's death, and a lot of what I've heard about the rest of the volume and the next aren't exactly doing a good job of making me reconsider my decision.
I'm mostly in this thread right now because a guy whose writing I liked is in the middle of doing a piece-by-piece review of Volume 4 and that got me thinking a bit about the series again.
but HOW?Hnnnnnnnnnnggggggh.
Watch this
and take that back, ye salty dog.
I mean, yes, we've all got our takes on whether it got better or worse. I don't think the choreography took that much of a hit.
Do I miss sequences like Neo trouncing Yang on the train? Hell yes. But moments like Qrow walking up on Tyrian, punching him in the face, then taking a stroll to mock him
were just great.

I'M MR. MEESEEKS, LOOK AT ME!You know rewatching this episode:
This
part exactly.
Maybe Tyrian described her when he was debriefed, but why would Emerald conjure an image of Ruby in her Volume 4 outfit when the last time she or Cinder saw her was while she was wearing her original outfit?
The only answer is that Tyrian is damn good at describing people he's fought against.
I'M MR. MEESEEKS, LOOK AT ME!i think the plot of the last half of season 3 is probably the best that the show has put forth thus far. i'd even personally rank it top 5 arcs that have come out of rooster teeth in general
"Never let the truth get in the way of a good story." TwitterI noticed the illusion's clothing issue, too. It would be nice if it turned out to be a plot clue, but it's probably a limitation of their animation models or a budget limitation, or something.
That, or they did what we're all thinking and just didn't think it through enough.
That said, if she has a way of ripping out her subordinates memories to analyse them closely (and that's how they know what Ruby currently looks like), she wouldn't exactly be the first villain to do so...

If my post doesn't mention a giant flying sperm whale with oversized teeth and lionfish fins for flippers, it just isn't worth reading.I'm glad I decided to stick with RWBY, I feel like the Volume One gets much better after Episode 8. Monty did a great job with choreographing that combat scene; I really enjoyed watching it. I feel like the characters gained a bit more depth. Even Jaune became more likable and that monkey faunus is cool as fuck so male characters are better than I thought they're going to be.
Penny was the biggest surprise of them all, hah. I did not expect her to be such a badass! I really like Weiss so far, she's definitely my favorite member of the RWBY team. Weiss is hardly perfect and/or faultless, but that's why I like her. JNPR's really cool too, Jaune and Pyrrha complement each other as characters.
RWBY is not the most sophisticated or original of shows. I've noticed some wonky animations and the voice acting is uneven, to say the least. It is a definitely amateurish production so far, but there's a certain charm to it. I don't care much for the "cute girls" factor, yet I gave it a try and it's definitely better than I thought it will be. So hey, thank you for convincing me! Despite all its faults, it's an enjoyable "honorary anime" in its own right. :)

Not everything can start off perfectly, it takes time for all the pieces just to click.
