Or maybe she goes all Bay!Prime and is like "GIVE ME YOUR FACE!"?
... nah, that'd be way too brutal for this series

The matter of Ruby and her non existent character arc is what bugged me in this episode when she cut off his tail. Which was awesome!
This also connects to Ozpin and Cinder and volume 3.
I feel even more after this volume 3 should have reconstructed Ruby. I seldom like to mention deconstruction and all that because I feel it's a buzzword that most use wrong and instead just make things dark as opposed to realistic. But let's say reality of situation forced her to kill Roman, as previously suggested. So, can have small emotional hit there, but the situation doesn't allow to wallow on that long. That then brings to Cinder vs. Ozpin.
First, we should have saw that fight in full if he died. Also, instead of Cinder coming off as a God-Mode Sue who it took a Deus ex Machina to take down, instead have combat breakdown. First Ozpin wears down a bit. Then Pyhrra even if she wins still. Then finally Ruby and, assuming warrior eyes needed, still have an actual fight or so on where we see her scar Cinder. Show Mercury and Emerald rescue Cinder or however she got out of there. Just… show shit!
Anyway, fast forward to this season, can have hardened Ruby who still has her optimistic side and so on, but also we know has had her beliefs tested and carrying forward. Basically, it develops her more to Good Is Not Soft and her current actions.
Improving as an author, one video at a time.I've defended Ruby's decision to go to Haven but even I do have to ask what she plans to do, and what exactly do Jaune, Nora, and Ren think they were going to do?
I mean, that's a bit moot now because Qrow's going to explain what's going on to them, but before that, what did she think she was going to fight? Maybe warn some people or the headmaster of the school, I guess?

This just in: RWBY's writing isn't that great.
Tune in next time for the shocking revelation that water is wet.
Let the joy of love give you an answer! Check out my book!'If nothing else everyone can agree that Yang is the best fighter.'
Funny enough.I've actually seen people argue that Yang's the worst due to her more 'hit it til it dies' approach and her overuse of her semblance.
Anyway I don't think its wise to say they should have showed Ozpins death until we know the full story.
His death seems to be connected to whatever Salem was looking for. RT seems to want to keep it hidden from both the cast and the viewers

Lesson: Don't be ambiguous about your character's logic and goals and all that!
Bleh, I hate that I'm so negative there because I loved that episode! It was so cool!
Improving as an author, one video at a time.As far as Ruby's character arc goes, there was certainly some development going on in volume 1 where she starts off awkward and socially dysfunctional to a far, far greater degree than later volumes, but it happened all in the first season. The same is true for Weiss's Defrosting Ice Queen thing and Blake becoming less reclusive.
From Ren's dialogue at the end of Volume 3 and how Qrow phrased his last comments at the end of said volume I believe the plan was go to Haven and look for clues. Cinder claimed to be from Haven Academy at least so probably go there and say "Hey, someone claiming to be one of your students totally wrecked out kingdom, what's the deal?" and go from there. Maybe put on some deerstalker hats and go looking for clues.
To the point where she actively made a friend with Penny when her team suggested against it. The Haven situation is them just following the only lead they have and Qrow shadowing them since I assume he would have painted a large target on their backs. He seemed to not account for Salem sending someone after Ruby at Cinder's request.
I am hoping Qrow lives because I would like to see more teamwork between the two. That and he needs to teach her to beat the tar out of people with her bare hands like he can.
"Shall I use you, or make you mine... I'm not so sure what I'll do." - DorthyUltimately at the heart of my issues with Ruby, it's not about the internal logic of the series. Yes she loses her Scythe on certain fights. Yes maybe there's reasons they didn't pick her for the tourney. I just think that when you have a long streak of Ruby being ineffectual, it doesn't matter what you can justify it with. If your story's lore and internal logic is written in a way that means your protagonist can't be effective, then you shouldn't write your story like that period. (Unless, again, it's intentional, which it's very likely not with RWBY)
It just gets me that the show will dedicate whole scenes to lore, or how something works, yet explaining a character's motive for doing what they're doing is something they haven't bothered to do for Ruby. They have to get better priorities on what to exposit on first, especially given the limited time per Volume. I don't want a chunk of an episode dedicated to how sea travel works in Remnant, if it means that we don't get an explanation on just what Ruby's plan is when she gets to Haven, because keeping something like that a secret is not something you should do.
A corpse should be left well enough alone...Well one key thing in regards to Ruby is that she is younger then the rest of her team. Her being not always effective definitely shows the disadvantage of throwing a student two years ahead. She certainly could have probably used the time to refine her abilities sooner rather then have to learn on the fly.
As a leader she is effective and put together battle plans pretty well. She is effective against enemies that don't have an aura or basic thugs. Which can be attributed to a hit and run style of fighting. Her defense has gotten better, but her being a huntress in training is still very clear. Which can be said about all the first years when compared to Qrow, Winter or Salem's group.

The problem with being coy is the fine line between coy and "we're gonna be assholes and padd this mutha out!". Like in Cloverfield and JJ Abrams "mystery box", no I don't like the shakey cam and I just wanted to see the monster (that toys and tie-ins "spoiled" anyway).
Yeah they are trying to be clever, but at some point the story has to move on.
Put me down in the Ozpin story could go faster.
- Ozpin - He's like a Trill from Star Trek only without the slug. I don't think he's a fall maiden, they only get the power. It's more than that. Sadly Oscar's mind is no longer his own, at least Ozpin is a nice "walk in" (ask your pagan friends).
- Raven I thing was broken by fighting Salem and that's a risk team RNJR has - Salem is eons older and beyond what they are used to facing.
- It's a classic temptation - leave and run from the Big Bad.
- Tyrian has blood in his tail, the stinger's venom gland it at the tip because venom is expensive yo. The purple does make sense scorpy blood mixed with human blood as he is a fanus -mix of human and animal.
- He only grazed Qwro, so unless we're going by Lord Of The Rings rules (and Tyrian ain't no Nasgul) Qwro should be fine if not a little ill. Again, venomous critters save their poison due to the effort to make it. More than likely Qwro got a "dry bite" (sting?) - no venom. I live in the US Southwest and knowledge of critters that use poison is mandatory if you like to visit nature.
- Weiss is either going to bolt or fight her old man. I vote for bolting to Atlas. Ironwood doesn't have jurisdiction unless Jacques Schnee does something stupid - like take away her heiress status and do the I Have No Son! (daughter in this case). I see Loophole Abuse saving the day.

I tried to walk like an Egyptian and now I need to see a Cairo practor....I don't really think they're actually trying to be coy though (at least in Ruby's case), I think is more they didn't feel it need to be stated.
I mean saying that they should focus on Ruby's plan when she gets to haven kinda assumes that she has much a plan to begin with.
I doubt her thought process goes beyond 'Go to Haven and search for clue's.'

rollin' on dubs
In most works of fiction, the hero is usually taken aback by the injury to the villain or has to be pulled back from hurting the villain more.
I vote for the latter: Cinder killed one of Ruby's friends, caused the death of another and trashed her second home. The rest of team RNJR may need to pry Ruby off Cinder.
As for all the lost limbs, that what you get for playing with sharp objects.
I tried to walk like an Egyptian and now I need to see a Cairo practor....oh my gooooood that fight has supplanted players and pieces as my second favorite fight in all of media. it's like christmas came exactly on time

So I just realized that Ruby has horribly and (probably permanently) wounded two members of Salem's group.
Taking bets on what she does to the other two. My money is on Watts losing his 'stache.
