Anyway, back to my binge of the archive, I've notice besides tired Blake jokes it seems really hard for anyone to just be a good fighter. The way the thread was going on, either people sucked or they did too well and needed to be nerfed. I'd say that was about how the fights are done, but it really just comes off as people being oddly picky.
Also, people apparently being both surprised that Weiss's father to come get her, and why she would go with him. I feel like both of those things are pretty obvious.
If it seems like I'm just being super critical, I'm not, I just like going back and musing about these things.
Skill level just isn't as obvious as it should be...sorry.
Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice. The only thing I complained about was Ruby losing all of her upper body strength when she fought those WF guys.
Or is this more about Blake's fighting ability.
I mean technically the ship is what killed that sea dragon Grimm. Weiss beat the giant armor by herself. Yang killed a huuuuge Ursa and a giant robot. Ruby beheaded a Nevermore. Blake tho'...

I'M MR. MEESEEKS, LOOK AT ME!They should've had them fighting the other trainees "before" batting for the large threats.

They should've "showed" MC againsts other trainees before villains. The class sparring matches would've been great to see besides those 3.

Like I said, my point wasn't just about Blake. The characters seem to unfairly, at least to my mind, get looked at either as "too weak" or "too strong", regardless of circumstances.
The Blake thing is annoying because it's a meme being taken too seriously, but it's not the only thing I find weird.

Okay, it can happen somehow...just not by any of Randomness' suggestions.
Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice.Eh, I probably just missed it.
I would say Cinder's seen as "too strong" but that's due to her constant victories moreso than fighting ability.
I'M MR. MEESEEKS, LOOK AT ME!- All of team RWBY is adequately strong, with Yang being "hella" previously.
- Nora's the best hard hitter, Pyrrha is the best at fighting people, Ren doesn't get to do cool stuff because reasons, Jaune is bad at fighting.
- Team CFVY are kinda the upperclassmen archetype but we barely get to see Fox, Yatsuhashi spends most of his fight screentime getting his ass kicked in by Mercury, Coco just looks like she has an OP weapon that is mostly good for PvE, and Velvet has a really cool schtick that was sorta retconned in when people liked her and she demanded more screentime than just being a bully target.
- Team CRDL are pretty bad overall, with Cardin having brute strength and nothing else, although Russel and Sky demonstrate some pretty good teamwork when fighting Pyrrha until Cardin fucks it up.
- Of SSSN, Sun's pretty great and shows to excel at 1v1, Neptune spends most of his limited fight screentime as comic relief, and Sage and Scarlet spend all of it.
- I don't care about the tournament teams.
- Roman is great at fighting, although seems not to be Huntsman-tier. Maybe around Pyrrha level or a bit below.
- Mercury's better than any of the students. Emerald doesn't fight much.
- Qrow, Winter, Cinder, etcetera are clearly a tier above the kids. Ozpin seems above that.
- Zwei is god.
A tier list would suffice...yep. That's what we needed, an official tier list per every piece of story progression.
Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice.I don't think Sage even got to be comic relief (I guess yelling WHOOOOOAAA as a tornado carries you off is a little bit funny though?). He just got knocked out like a punk.

I never really understood the mockery of Sage and Scarlet. Sage simply got unlucky and was taken out by a near perfect hit right at the start of the fight, something that can happen to anyone. Scarlet actually puts up a perfectly respectable performance, complete with trapping a member of the other team before being hit by a shot meant for Sun.
To act like they're both total incompetents really isn't fair. We haven't seen enough from either of them to properly judge.
First impressions mean everything to a side character...
But that only means the Sage guy deserves mocking, while the other guy is just there.
Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice.I wouldn't say it's just their combat performance. They were in the Volume 2 opener and were supposedly going to be important. They showed up for 5 seconds in Volume 2 and weren't voiced, and when they did show up in Volume 3 they were practically one-shotted and not seen again until the Big Damn Heroes scene when the Nevermore attacked. So, irony.
Sun and Neptune don't typically get a lot done, but they at least have some characterization that pushes them past "mischievous love interest and ladies man." Scarlet and Sage are just the possibly gay pirate character and the black guy with the huge sword. Stereotypes.
Add that Sage got taken out despite being SSSN's tank (irony again), and Scarlet was taken out by a long-range Groin Attack (so he did get to be comic relief). Slapstick.

I'M MR. MEESEEKS, LOOK AT ME!

Actually, some person who apparently talked to him said that Williams said that "Not Fall In Love With You" was an old boy-band song he'd written, and not specifically from Sun to Blake. Not sure how accurate that is, though, because the only source is a third-party Tumblr post and we all know how the shipping fandoms are there.
Does anyone actually read these?
