Essentially. Roman's rant right before he got eaten made it seem like he had a lot more going for him than what we first thought. His rant just SCREAMED of Dark and Troubled Past

Yup, we talked about that in this thread not too long ago. Apparently Word of God is that Roman died because he was a Starter Villain and the protagonists had moved past him, but that really didn't come out on-screen at all.
I mean, hell, if that's what they wanted to do with him, all they had to do was leave him in jail. Instead they gave him an awesome fight where he decisively defeats Ruby, has a great Motive Rant, and then randomly gets eaten by a griffon because they had to get rid of him somehow and they'd written themselves into a corner.

Really from Jupiter, but not an alien. There's also Cinder being accused of being a Villain Sue for her actions through Volume 3 because of her lack of motivation behind her actions.
Its like, it's pretty noticeable that most of the villains in this series are pretty flat. Adam is no exception, though he gets the most hate for the wrong reasons I feel.
A lazy millennial who's good at what he does.Cinder was being called a Villain Sue not because of her lack of motivations, but because her Evil Plan went perfectly, even beyond the confines of You Can't Thwart Stage One. Literally everything that the heroes did to screw it up actually made it better for her.
Roman was pretty clearly mostly out of the loop of what was going on, and when you got down to it a petty crime boss. Calling him a Starter Villain in regards to the stuff that was to come seems pretty fair.
But, yeah, having Ruby defiantly yell she'll stop him only to have to be saved at the last minute by him getting eaten, was really jarring.
Speaking of Roman, since his death scene was discussed, I feel like if we were to give Ruby some drama, she could have accidentally knocked Roman off the ship, but he managed to catch him on the side. Then Ruby would have tried to save him, only for Roman to reject her offer as he would rather die than bend to Ruby's delusion of real life.
Also, I feel like that if they wanted to make Adam abusive from the get-go, they should have just let that be clear in the show itself than just say it out loud. Nothing more painful than the creator themselves jossing something.

Honestly, that actually sounds like something Roman would do and it removes him with some satisfying closure. Additionally, it would have actually set up some conflict for Ruby without having her actively kill someone.

A lazy millennial who's good at what he does.Plus, Roman going out Disney Villain Death style would actually give the FNDM a hope that he could come back, even if he was supposed to be dead.
But yea, one thing I hope that improves is writing for the villains. They don't have to be drowning in depth, but they should at least be entertaining and somewhat fleshed out.
And since Sun seems to be such a popular topic around here after today, he's been getting mostly positive reception for lightening Blake's angst trip on other sites I talk about this series with.
A lazy millennial who's good at what he does.the problem with Roman is that is final scene give him a huge potencial of being something else than a starter villian: he beat Ruby with team work(which is jarring since they are so far the best team in the series, even more thatn Ruby and Yang), give his reason for join, beat Ruby AGAIN and this time alone and give a rant about the world, and more important, him been eaten means Ruby didnt really beat him which show Ruby lack of agency beyond her role as hero.
Cinder: so far the complain is her one-note personality and her being villian sue, I disagree with her plan going perfectly, is just that in this kind of plot there is usually a detective trying to figure out what is happeing....just that didnt happen at all
Adam: I will said him being abusive come out of nowhere and it feel it take over him being a extremist, yeah one could said those are separate but in this is not like that

To be fair to the fandom—and I am not notoriously fair to fandoms—the whole "aura" thing makes their inability to accept that someone is dead pretty understandable. Especially given some of the comedic shenanigans early in the series. That Ruby proceeds to easily kill the monster that killed him, right after he'd walked all over her, does not help.

No dead bodies, sir. Just the absence of presence...
Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice.
x3 To give a comparison, in Blaz Blue, while Hazama/Terumi was unstoppable in the second game, at least the heroes actively tried to stop him, going out of their way to do so. They just couldn't do anything because he basically had all the cards. Cinder succeeds after the heroes barely try to stop her, or come anywhere close to figuring out what's going on, and when they do try, only Pyrrha really encounters or fights her + Emerald and Mercury.
Not even that, for the first have of the season they dont even kow who the bad guy are or that the bad guys are there to being it so they cant do anything at all and by the time ONE of them figure out(Ruby) Penny is aparead shred and the evil plan is beyond their control: the robot will be turn, grimm will flow and Cinder get the maiden power
James is a pretty cool guy with what Tai was saying If he personally got Yang's replacement through
I think Tai was expecting Yang to jump at the opportunity to be able to punch people in the face... Her not has kinda caught him flat footed and Its seems its not really the lose of the arm thats Broke Yang... Its how easily Adam took her out
It be one thing to loose a limb after a grueling fight...its another when your opponent does it with little effort. Yang's not ready for a rematch.
RIP Bow though now that her ears are exposed... Blake's alot more expressive
Lucky for Sun she only has the Ears and Not the nails... cause she's got the jumpy irritated part down pat
Praise be to the absolute QueenShe's mad because she's so weak?
Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice.Yang's identity has always revolved around basically being a Boisterous Bruiser. She's the powerhouse, the heavy hitter, the one who gets by on raw power because she's so strong she doesn't need anything else. Think about it: her semblance involves absorbing enemy attacks, and then using that to boost her own strength even higher so she can crush them. Semblances are very much Personality Powers — they're a reflection of how a person thinks about themselves. At her most basic, Yang's outlook on life is to survive everything it can throw at her and then return it with interest.
This idea takes several hits in rapid succession.
First, Mercury tricks her into attacking him when he was already down. Not only is "unbreakable mental illusions" not something she can punch her way out of, he actually turns her strength against her by making her look like a savage bully. That's strike one. Then she tries to come to Blake's rescue against Adam, and ends up not simply defeated, but completely and utterly overwhelmed by just a single attack. It's the first time she's ever run into anything that can do that to her. That's strike two. Finally, she gets her damn arm cut off. However strong she was before (which, in her mind, wasn't good enough: see strike two), she's weaker than that now.
So it's not so much that she's mad because she's weak. When she gets mad, she gets stronger. (You can see that in her fight against the neon rollerblade chick during the tournament.) It's more like self-loathing. She thinks it happened to her because she was weak, and because she was weak she deserved what happened to her.
As an aside, that's why we were saying that it was so important for Ruby to stay with her. The only way for her to get out of that funk is to realize that being defeated doesn't make her worthless as a person, and being "weak" doesn't mean she deserved to be hurt. A really good way to get that message across is a strong dose of unconditional love from someone whose opinion you respect — like, say, your sister. (Yes, her dad certainly loves her too, but her dad isn't a warrior like Ruby is, and Yang's fixation on strength means that she's more likely to listen to someone she considers strong, especially on that subject.)

Is ore tht it was even a hint Blake and Adam have something in the first place and he treat her no diferent than a Elite mook, all the focus on adam as about him and the white fang: he refuse Cinder offer and he was bullied into it, he asure the white fang will pull his weight in next plan at the end of season 3, so it make thing look like "wait, what?"
