Whitley did nothing wrong.

Whitley did everything wrong. His social skills are poor and he should feel poor! Except he's not... because his family is stinking rich... hmm. This rant has fallen apart it seems.

Anyway, betting money there's something evil about him, like he wants to run the family the way it's always been run and Weiss wants to do things differently. Maybe not evil but definitely an antagonist.

Does Weiss want to run the company?

Weiss doesn't want her father define their family forever, and seemed to want to bring honor to them through her work as a Huntress. Presumably, Winter feels the same way considering she was apparently in a pretty similar situation with Weiss and their Father.

I'd imagine that'd be the simple way for her goal, but that's definitely never going to happen unless her father suddenly kicks it (and considering he clearly favoured Whitley, he's probably named the next owner in the will or something).

He clearly favors Whitley? I mean, I wouldn't be surprised, but what gives you that impression?

There's really no clear relation between Wheatley and Papa Schnee at the moment, it's just the usual fandom theorizing.

you know

people are so suspicious of whitley

yet the one thing we've seen him do is help weiss (albeit while not being entirely pleasant)

so im gonna say he's a good guy that just enjoys being antagonistic

Knight in Sour Armor is a thing, after all.

Is Whitley her brother? I don't know what to make of him yet.

I wouldn't count on him being entirely helpful or antagonistic.

But honestly, if you want to image what Whitley was like before Weiss left, you probably just have to thing about how Weiss was when we first met her, but as a boy and couple of years younger. Adjust accordingly and you probably get a pretty accurate picture.

You're all quite right, my apologies - "clearly" is a definite overstatement. However, Jacques does clearly have reasons to hold Winter and Weiss in a lower regard (their being Hunters as the obvious sticking point), along with Whitley being the only smiling child in the family portrait and saying for certain that he dislikes Winter would at least imply Whitley to be the favored of the three.

Of course, it could be in spite of all that he's kinda useless or something and Jacques spends every day thinking about his children with his head in hands and asking aloud "Where did I wrong?"

It sounded more like Jacques problem was with Weiss specifically going to Beacon and not necessarily becoming a huntress. Winter was pretty plain about his disagreement with her joining the military though.

Since the Schnee family can all create glyphs, and the company was started by Winter's grandfather, does that mean her mom can't create glyphs?

Or maybe it's the other way around — Jaques married into the Schnee family and ended up taking over the business section.

That's been a theory, since the family portrait shows that everyone but Jacques has white hair. He's greying a bit, not white.

Of course, it could be that white hair is not a Schnee family trait, and the kids just inherited it from their non-Schnee mother.

Considering they have the whole white motif going on for the whole family, i don't think so

His hair not being naturally white could just be a way to put him as the odd man out or show he's "wrong" for the family or something.

Him marrying into the family has some interesting implications but it also make some other things harder to work out.

[up] What other things? Like how he's in charge of the company if he only married into it?

Primarily that. But also how things like inheritance works, and Weiss's goals and reasonings sort of becomes weaker if the issue is that an "interloper" is the one tarnishing the Schnee name.

Eh, I doubt that'll come up. That'd be a pretty lame bias and character flaw for Weiss to have.

Motivation, not flaw...

It's a motivation that everyone would consider a flaw because of it being born off arrogant categorism.

It'd also probably have to be made clear that the Schnees beforehand really weren't any better to actually have this come up, which would make Weiss have some terrible Moral Myopia.

I've been proposing for a while now that Remnant exists After the End and the moon was broken in some ancient conflict that is in some way related to Grimm becoming a thing and may or may not also be responsible for Dust.

Nobody in Remnant has the capabilities required to blow off a huge chunk of the moon but, like, there it is. Huge chunk blown off the moon. Someone did that. If the technology doesn't exist anywhere in recorded history, then it happened before recorded history.

Yep. That's pretty much what I'm thinking, too. Although I'm willing to insert Ozpin and Salem into that scenario, too.

If my post doesn't mention a giant flying sperm whale with oversized teeth and lionfish fins for flippers, it just isn't worth reading.

Yeah, I agree. I also think Ozpin and Salem are related to the moon-shattering conflict. Ozpin told Ruby in season 1, "I have made more mistakes than anyone on this planet," and the Wizard of Ozpin was a reclusive hermit when he met the Four Maidens. I think he f*cked up something fierce in the events that caused the Grimm and the moon and then left to wallow in regret and self-hatred until the Seasons brought him out of his slump.
