@Chucking things into a Grimm pool: Geists are a thing, and Japan is home to Tsukumogami... So, killer Grimm umbrellas?

I think Tyrion needs meds. My mom thinks he needs a lobotomy.

I definitely got Elite Four vibes from Salem's group. Hazel is the punchy guy, Cinder is the arson chick, Tyrion is the stabbingly(why is that a word selection?) murderous guy, and Dr. Wattson is the Dragon Tamer is the guy capable of speaking in complete sentences with out mostly scaring everyone.

Oh, and thinking about it, wild mass guessDr. Watts is based off of Dr. Frankenstein.wild mass guess He's got the Victorian outfit going on, is called a doctor, and has a electric themed name. I expect he's got some crazy experiment in the basement. Perhaps a Human-Grimm hybrid?

[up]Nice page topper! tongue

In anyone getting the feeling that Yang isn't done suffering? Her shot in the volume 4 "opening" is fairly ominous.

Side note: I think we know who Cinder's mysterious hacker ally is.

Seeing as how her Scroll had a large, elegant W in the corner, it's more than likely Doctor Watts.

Given how incredibly vague the show has been about the villains' endgame, I would tend to think that it's going to be a bit more complicated than Kill All Humans if only in terms of the why, and I've thus far had a pretty good read on the first three seasons.

Plenty of people have had a pretty good read on the first three volumes - either RWBY is a fairly easy show to read or we've got a super-intelligent fandom tongue.

Seriously though, I'm not sure what you interpreted the point of my post as being, but judging by your response, I think you've interpreted it in a much more restrictive fashion than I'm actually thinking.

My post wasn't connected to what I think are the whys and wherefores of the plot. I was simply exploring what an in-universe individual character motivation might be for supporting a boss that has a stated claim of wiping out said character's own race, based on my experience of what tends to happen in stories where this issue has occurred.

That's got nothing to do with what Salem's true plan is. As I've said several times, I don't believe any of her subordinates (including Cinder) know what her true plan is - even if they knew she wanted to destroy humanity, they wouldn't know the truth.

I still wouldn't entirely rule out a twist that puts her into Anti-Villain territory, if only because the Hidden Agenda Villain archetype is extremely prone to those sorts of twists.

I'm expecting a sympathetic fall from grace. Where we look back and go 'OMG, did that really happen to her?'. I wouldn't be surprised if many of Ozpin's mistakes over the years have come from trying to save her rather than kill her. I mentioned the Star Trek: The Next Generation episode Skin of Evil. In it, the villain, Armus, says the following line:

"Save your compassion, it's revolting. You offer it like a prize when, in fact, it's an insult."

If Ozpin, at any point, has tried to save her, I can imagine that it would repulse her. She would probably view it has him trying to save himself through her if what happened to her can be pinned at Ozpin's door; I do expect it to be connected because her attitude does come across as a person whose hopes were raised by him and then who stared into the Abyss, had the Abyss stare right back at her, and crossed the Despair Event Horizon. Now she's absolutely determined to drag Ozpin over to her side of the horizon so he can, once and for all, truly feel what it's like to be her... and only then will he have her permission to 'burn'.

As to your theory about the part-Grimm aspect applying to all Maidens, that has occurred to me. In some ways, Salem's conversation with Ozpin set Ozpin apart from humanity. The way she spoke made it seem like he wasn't really a part of humanity at all, more like their advocate or protector or 'enabler'. The Brotherhood acted like the Aura transfer was theoretical and that there was no way to know for certain what would happen. When Pyrrha was in the pod, however, that's not how Ozpin was behaving. He was behaving as if he knew exactly what would happen, hence the apology.

As to the farm boy: I posted previously that he's pretty suspicious: He has heterochromia iridis - and anyone with special eyes colours tends to be important in stories, especially in this story. Plus, he appears to be living and working on that farm plot alone. Plus, the symbol associated with that barrel he was rolling was a gold crown containing the letters CH). Lonely, seemingly abandoned boys with odd coloured eyes and crown symbolism? Yeah, let's keep an eye on him.

Rest of the post is Wizard of Oz novel and Volume 4, Episode 1 spoiler discussions. Just so people know:

In the Wizard of Oz novels, the gang find a little boy. He lives in the forest alone, except for the woman he serves. The woman is really a witch, keeping the boy as a slave more than a servant. Things happen, the boy ends up accompanying the gang on their adventure, and eventually the truth comes out - the boy worked for an evil witch. The boy was really a girl who had been turned into a boy by the evil witch's magic. The Wizard of Oz, in the distant past of Oz, had secretly given the little girl to the witch to raise, and the witch had disguised the child's identity by changing their gender and name.

The child was really Princess Ozma, the true ruler of Oz. When she is restored to the throne, she forgives the Wizard and bans the use of all magic throughout Oz. She permits only three sanctioned magic users to exist in Oz - herself, Glinda the Good Witch and the Wizard himself, who became a student of Glinda's and became a real wizard - in fact, he was so talented, he was second only to Glinda in magical power.

So, when you see me speculating about whether or not there are, or should be, real kings or queens or princes or princesses in this story, it's partly because that's how many fairy tales go, but it's also because of this Wizard of Oz story. We've also had reference to the Spring Maiden made, so that's the Maiden that should be appearing in this volume somewhere, and Princess Ozma was at least half fairy - her benefactor being the Fairy Queen Lurline who created the Land of Oz, and who was essentially Mother Nature). I've already been half expecting a little forest boy to need rescuing and then tagging along with Ruby's group, only for the real (and significant) identity of the child to be revealed later on, and now we have a little farm boy(?!) on the edge of a forest... with odd eyes and a crown symbol on his farm (and while Princess Ozma began with golden hair, artistic evolution means she ended up being depicted as having black hair, and the boy's eye colouring is about right for a secret Spring Maiden). It could mean nothing, but I'm pretty suspicious.

[up][up][up]wouldn't it make more sense for that group's focus be paired up with another character? The one that represents the "B" in RWBY.

It'd make more sense...seeing how she use to be apart of their legion.

Granted, those Assassin's Creed dudes are shown right after Yang's freakout in the opening, complete with Ominous Adam Mugshot in the background. He might be putting more work into his "will destroy everything Blake holds dear" spiel than we first thought.
