Huh. Off we go.
- Salem has an entire castle/cathedral of evil in her Forbidden Continent. Merc looks pissed off, Emerald looks horrified. Cinder got fucked up good and she's not at all happy.
- I can't be the only one who instantly thought of this gentleman
◊ when I saw Doc Watts.
- Male Bayonetta is completely bonkers and Hazel sounds kinda weird; at times it feels like his voice is altered to sound even deeper. Also, Cinder confirmed favorite pet of Salem. Supposedly she killed Ozpin...?
- Who's this innocent farmer child?
- Gheist, huh. Those seem to be legitimately terrifying. For a moment I feared Jaune is gonna become a comic relief, but it turns out he was just temporarily weaponless.
- That blacksmith dude, I dunno why, but he feels alright.
- Anyway, seems like the party wasn't at all having troubles with ammo.
- Cut to Atlas; Weiss leaves us with a cliffhanger. I take in that case we'll have her segment, then Blake's and maybe a bit of Yang next ep.
- Since I forgot to add this, Pyrrha lives on as a memory. I suppose Jaune is not gonna be angsting too much about it after all.
Regarding the opening, Papa Belladona and Hazel kinda look familiar at first glance. Sun's hanging with her, though his team is nowhere to be found. Also, Yang was shown in her "casual" clothes with the other three, but what about her promo clothing then?
All in all, the first ep seems like it's just there to get us hyped up for more. The music was super sweet tho. '3'

She's not got perpetual smirk going? Drastic improvement!! This season book is automatically the best purely for that reason, forget everything else.
Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice. That was a nice start to the new volume. I will give my thoughts later.
Though I have a feeling Ozpin is not dead and Salem might just want her council to think that.
Pyrrha's stuff was melted down I assume to make that new equipment for the strategist.
"Shall I use you, or make you mine... I'm not so sure what I'll do." - DorthyGolden eyes are really common in this show. Blake, Tukson, Cinder, village leader, village blacksmith, Tyrian, Hazel, those two faunus in the credits.
- Introduction to how Grimm are created? It's Armus from Skin of Evil, but with better special effects. Mercury and Emerald look suitably appalled by the sight - guess they finally realise they're in over their heads. Cinder may be scarred down her whole left side. Her clothes cover everything on her left, even her left hand.
- Loved the way Divide was used as Salem entered. Salem's gang and Cinder's gang don't like each other. Salem's keeping secrets - the gang don't know how Cinder became a Maiden and don't know how Ruby injured her. In fact, underneath the mockery, they seem really puzzled. The vulnerability to Ruby isn't because of the Maiden powers, it's because of the parasite Grimm inside Cinder, and Cinder clearly had no idea it would be part of the deal. Did Hazel kill Summer? One of them did.
- My head cannon from Volume 3 is still going strong - Salem's followers don't know the truth. They aren't even scared of her - probably thinks she wants world domination or something. She clearly wants everyone to think Ozpin is dead, but the Volume 3 finale suggests she knows exactly where Ozpin is. Cinder looks like her favourite, but it's just necessity - she needs Cinder for something. Cinder's like a pet. She'll be in trouble the moment Salem has no further use for her. She's already become the opposite of strong, feared and powerful - she's now crippled, mocked and protected.
- Salem only changed her priority for Spring because it suited her, not because Cinder has any sway over her. Divide tells us that Salem thinks the only way to defeat Ozpin is to destroy his optimism. The only way to do that, is to destroy the 'simple soul'. The only way to do that, is to destroy Ruby's optimism. She wants Ruby captured alive because she needs Ozpin to realise that Ruby is in her power. So, yeah, she knows exactly where Ozpin is, and she doesn't want anyone else to know.
- Jaune's armour and weapons now carry parts of Pyrrha's. So, she's travelling with them, after all. That tiara on the shield might end up acting as a flag to people who knew Pyrrha.
- Weiss still has her ponytail on the side. Yay!
People to look out for:
- Salem's informant in Mistral - they'll probably end up friends with RNJR and betraying them. First guess is that someone in the Nikos family is the informant. The village blacksmith indicates that Pyrrha had connections, what with the quality of the metal she had. But then, she was a champion, so she would have anyway.
- Sienna Khan - potential eventual ally, by the sounds of it, if Salem isn't convinced she's as converted to the cause as Adam Taurus is. Is she one of the three White Fang leaders? Or someone in the Menagerie leadership? Shere Khan inspiration?
- Farm kids with heterochromia iridis. The kid looks like he lives alone and works his farm alone. Never trust lonely freckle-faced kids with odd eye colours. Especially when their symbol appears to be a crown.
Credits:
- The four colours - white went to Atlas, Black to Menagerie, Red to the audience then to Mistral. Yellow, however, circled the unnamed continent before sinking into Patch. Given the Yang imagery later on, poor old Yang might be having even more problems this volume than we thought.
- Does Weiss have a younger brother?
- Is that Ironwood in the background of the Papa Schnee shot? There is a band of grey on the right-hand side that's hard to see, but rocking the new uniform if it is Ironwood - and very unshaven, by the looks of it. If it is Ironwood, he's not in a good place. He's probably feeling awful about Beacon and Ozpin.
- Papa Belladonna? And a mother or sister - hard to tell. They look very well-to-do. Always suspected Blake came from a very highly placed family.
Nice to know, no matter how much trauma that happens to them, Ruby will always be Ruby, Nora will be Nora, and Jaune will always Jaune
A lazy millennial who's good at what he does.I didn't get the sense of that trope. I think he's just Laughing Mad and loves violence.
Well, I've watched the episode myself..
- Cinder...well, at least she's not constantly smirking anymore. And actually looks genuinely angry. Even Mercury seems to be afraid of this crew and Salem. Emerald seems to be going soft. I definitely see her changing sides.
- Well, Tyrion seems to be either batsh#t insane or a really extreme Blood Knight.
- Wow, evil doctor with a batstache. He certainly sounds like some sort of perfectionist. I'd dare say he might fit the Chessmaster type.
- Hazel...seems to be a man of few words. Certainly sounds dangerous though. I'm guessing he's going to die first.
- Wait, did Salem just glide across the floor at the start?
- How has nobody noticed ominous place of ominous evilness from an airship or something? "And on your right, you can see ominous evil cathedral surrounded by Grimm crawling out of puddles."
- Who the hell are you, random farm boy?!
- Ooh, Jaune's dodging skills have improved.
- Nope. No they have not. You somehow messed up being smacked into a wall, Jaune. Congrats.
- Wow, Ren doing actually fighting stuff?
- Damn, Ren is nearly as fast as Ruby.
- BOOMERANG MODE!
- Damn, Ren is nearly as fast as Ruby.
- Nora is still Nora.
- Well, Nora is basically unstoppable with that upgrade. Electrified hammer + Nora = Win
- Wait, are Ruby's bullets curving in mid air?
- Ghost Grimm that can possess stuff like rocks? Oh hell yeah. I wonder if it works on humans and Faunus?
- Really Ruby? You're the one who drinks milk and you're making fun of Jaune's hoodie? Also, Pyrrha memories. Damn, looks like Ruby took a slight level in jerk. Doesn't she remember what Pumpkin Pete's means?
- Looking good Jaune! I think Pyrrha would be proud of what you did. Neat armour colour scheme too. Looks more knightly.
- And Weiss gets a small scene where she basically does nothing except look out of a window and be called to speak with her father.
And credits. Pretty cool song, will admit. Everything still seems to be cheery and all, and the funny bits are still there, but..it's not quite as happy and free as before. Still, a great start to the volume.

Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice.@Karxrida: Yes, that's exactly what I'm thinking.
@God of Awesome: I'm actually expecting him to go stone-cold sane when he goes in for the 'kill' (so-to-speak).

If my post doesn't mention a giant flying sperm whale with oversized teeth and lionfish fins for flippers, it just isn't worth reading.Maybe its the New animation style... but good lord Mr Schnee didn't translate well at all
Yeah I get that there was a drop in detail to allow smoother easier animation.
-Suns Abs are gone, Cleavage lines are gone'
Praise be to the absolute QueenSide Question: RWBY: Monsters and Enemies mentions Sienna Khan as a he. Now, this is a good assumption based on what we know. But Salem doesn't refer to the White Fang leader by gender, plus: Sienna is a feminine given name.
Should we edit that entry to match until they get physically shown?

Speaking of which, it would be quite amusing if her parents are practically the opposite of Blake and make her look like a total Emo Teen by comparison...as much of a disservice to the Faunus discrimination that would be.
