It's hard to tell since we don't know enough about the Maiden's powers yet.
If their powers are an absolute top tier ability in Remnant under the right conditions I could very well see the silver eyes thing being a descendant of a Maiden type thing.
If there are other powers more central to Remnant's lore or more powerful then it's a bit more limiting given the build up we have had for her eyes from Qrow.
Although it'd be neat if the protagonist had a unique hereditary trait that was eventually outclassed by their own ability by the end of the show.
She sounds less like Cortana now.

...so I guess this for all those Crunchyroll meatheads who gave up on RWBY because the bastards at Rooster Teeth blocked the original Japanese version, but watched a clip of the Neo fight on Reddit and were too lazy to catch up?
I mean it doesn't feel like it's been long enough or that we've had enough material to warrant a recap, but, whatever.

I'M MR. MEESEEKS, LOOK AT ME!
That recap paints a much grimmer picture then what I understood.
I was under the impression that the four kingdoms were symbols of humanity pushing back against the Grim, killing off enough of them so they can start advancing their technology and make kingdoms where people live in peace.
This says it's actually the opposite — the Grim are overwhelming humanity to the part where they're down to only four safe havens.

The World of Remnant special on the kindoms also suggests that humanity is getting shitstomped and the four kingdoms are just desperate holdouts against the darkness. The Grimm are the dominant species on Earth, not the humans.

That's the thing though: If the situation has remained the same for centuries, and the Grimm roam most of the world that means humanity is winning.
Because most fiction forgets: Humanity is the dominant species on Earth not because of our intelligence, our ability for toolmaking, or our social structure. Humanity is the dominant species on Earth because we've all that combined with being tenacious bastards. There was one picture of a series of tumblr posts that pointed out that in any setting with humans and other intelligent/semi-intelligent creatures Humans Are Cthulhu would be in play if it was like real life.
The only reason why there's even a problem in RWBY's verse is that the Grimm have way more members than we do, and throw themselves at us in waves.

I didn't say the situation was hopeless, but that's different from acknowledging the situation as it is. I don't get watching this and not realizing that humanity is the underdog.
The Grimm have forced most of humanity into four kingdoms and freely roam the rest of the world, killing humans whenever they can. You could turn your statement on it's head very easily.

This. If the situation has remained the same for centuries with neither the Grimm being able to tear down the four kingdoms nor the four kingdoms being able to expand due to the Grimm, that means nobody is winning. That's a stalemate.
The Grimm occupying more territory would only matter if they cared about territory, but they don't. They exist for the sole purpose of slaughtering mankind. They have no other goals or motivations beyond killing as many humans as possible.
They don't even have basic biological functions like digestive needs. They eat only humans and they do it out of spite.
Not exactly. The Grimm have been around for as long as humanity remembers walking on the planet. They're older than recorded history. Not necessarily older than the human species.
In the event of an After the End scenario, it is entirely possible that Grimm came after humans, but before known civilizations on Remnant.
And given the nature of Grimm, it's kind of impossible for them to predate humans when their entire existence is human-centric. Qrow also seemed to indicate that Grimm are man-made, calling them "her" creations - presumably referring to Salem.
