[up][up][up][up]Eh? FMA's probably one of the least Muscles Are Meaningless examples I can think of...if only because characters in general tend to have muscles there.

[up] Not really... just look at Izumi or Olivia.

Going way back:

Just finished the show myself. Is it odd that I think I'll miss Roman more than I'll miss Pyrrha or Penny?

Oh, no. You are far from the only one. evil grin

I just find him the most likely to stay dead, with Penny being the least.

[up][up][up][up][up]Yeah, it's definitely a least, not a none. Olivia's a bit ambiguous though since you never see her out of her uniform which hides her definition, but she'd certainly can only be wiry at best. Izumi's probably an even straighter example than usual because she's bloody missing organs!

Still, it's rather few in FMA compared to a lot of other anime where the trope could be described as endemic in them.

I'm still really fucking suspicious of this disintegration stuff. Like, I didn't even care for Pyrrha too much, I was neutral towards her. It's just, when you leave someone dead with an arrow in their throat, that's one thing, but when you go through the trouble of making the body disappear, I feel that veers into Never Found the Body territory. (Was this trope ever directly linked in reference to this argument?)

See, this is especially so when, in that same scene (I've mentioned this before), Cinder disintegrates and, uh- reintegrates? Is it "reintegrates"?- reintegrates an arrow with the exact same particle effects. That's fuckin' teleportation, that's the first thing I thought, that's fuckin' Star Trek teleportation

That or Pyrrha comes back as a Grimmified abomination.

The fan artist are having fun at the least.

On that same subject, what happened to Penny's body?

It was just left in the abandoned arena.

[up][up]Everything but her head piece disintegrated, and the effects on the arrow weren't the same.

Ruby has taken them to a secluded location. Next season we will see her equipped with even more badass weapon, and we will be able to accept it, because as we know, RUBY ROSE WOULD BE ABLE TO BUILD IT IN A CAVE, WITH SCRAPS OF PENNY!

People assume that Pyrrha was burned down given the sparkles and that Cinder can control fire. But really it could be anything.

Penny's pieces are tossed from the arena when the Nevermore lands. They took the time to anime them being carefully tossed clear and intact despite it being something you'd only notice if you have sharp eyes so make of that what you will.

Penny's return is really inevitable though. They aren't going to have a aura generating artifical robot, something that's really important in the tech development scheme of things, just to use her for a shock death and then drop it forever. The only real question is is whether she'll be the same "Penny" or not.

Pyrrha could at least be brought back for feels or drama, but Roman there's really no reason to bring him back. His role as a bad guy is over, they've moved on to bigger world ending problems instead of a dust thefts and downtown terrorism, and as a fighter he was reaching the point where he'd be outclassed. There's no reason to bring him back. By the time they do, Ruby will be strong enough to stomp him. And while they could dramatically rework him to make him stronger and more connected to the Cinder and Salem want to destroy the world plot, they might as well just bring in a new character at this point.

I'm pretty sure Pyrrha is dead until proven otherwise. Even with the arrow thing, she was still disintegrated on-screen and Cinder had no reason to keep her alive.
