Fun subtitles in Episode 14 (iScroll!!):

  • RIP Blake. Killed by test.
  • Zwei does not compute that answer.
  • Both are napping cutely and the viewers lose minds.
  • In response to Jaune's claim, the subtitle adds: (BS).
  • (Someone is missing, I think...)
  • (You missed someone, I think)

Ruby forgot Pyrrha!!

I don't think the Grimm will ever be a major threat, barring rare one off's like the dragon.

In swarms they're a problem, and keeping them from killing civillians is a danger but any decent fighter can take them out. Even Jaune can defeat Ursa's with ease.

#37406: Aug 13th 2016 at 2:58:13 PM

[up] My guess is that the speed at which Jaune starts being able to take out Ursa, even when completely untrained, isn't a case of 'even Jaune can...', it's a sign of his untapped potential (especially given that Pyrrha observed he had an awful lot of Aura when she first unlocked it for him).

That's not me disagreeing that the Grimm in the early stages of the show were of limited threat because I agree that they were. I just never quite understood why that bothered people so much. We were always going to be introduced to mook-level threats that partially trained kids can take out (or initially struggle to take out) because that's how stories grow - the heroes, especially if they're starting as kids, have to learn how to grow into the part, and the threat levels develop accordingly. They're always pathetic to begin with and get more dangerous as the story unfolds until eventually the heroes are playing catch-up. Then the heroes catch-up, the climax happens and the story ends.

Grimm are criticized for not having impressive showings, but they really don't need to have any at this point.

Fighting a few Grimm is not a problem, fighting a lot of Grimm is a huge problem. These are basic zombie movie traits. The Grimm only need to be as much a threat as they keep humanity on its toes by attacking humans with the slightest negative thought. They probably are going to be a larger threat if the cast spend most of their time outside of any major kingdoms.

The Grimm blackness shouldn't be the mooks.

The grunts of the "White" Fang should be the mooks.

Why though?

What Measure Is A Non-Mook?

The Grimm are generic shadow monsters... Heartless, basically. They're perfect mooks. I'd say the White Fang should be elite mooks considering they're, well, terrorists that terrorize a society that raises superhuman children to fight its battles.

Faunus stink and deserve to be taken out as a group with the ease it takes to defeat one really tough Grimm.

That is my entire opinion.

So, a joke opinion that seems pretty deliberately written to illicit some kinda angry reaction or even just be taken as a non-opinion altogether? Which is it?

[up][up][up] No, it is pretty obvious that they just have a low opinion of the White Fang mooks who are just faunus in masks. I can definitely see why they'd be lower on the totem pole than actual monsters.

We should take into account that most Grimm the cast has fought so far is from just outside the outskirts of Vale and therefore dumb kids with no semblance - heh - of tactics whatsoever.

As the Vol. 4 trailer demonstrated they grow not only stronger and faster, but also smarter. Rillagrimm gives Ruby quite a bit of trouble, compared to... well, any other Grimm so far.

They went to a city that had fallen to Grimm in Volume 2 and had no real trouble.

Yeah. I think Grimmkey Kong is just giving Ruby trouble because it's a tougher than average Grimm and has more attacking options.

Beowulves and Ursa's will likely never be a threat under any circumstances other than big crowds.

Then again, what is a threat level of 1 divided by hundred?

Show tries to be World of Badass, but without giving a good demonstration of how potentially the primary opponents are in comparison. It is like The Worf Effect without showing how good Worf would be otherwise.

They had a chance to do this in the Volume 2 finale that made me swear off the show for a while but they blew it.

Wasn't it fairly close to Vale, actually? It didn't seem like a long way there.

Beowulves and Ursas most certainly won't be a threat and will be relegated to RWBY's Putties, though it's been shown that they can evolve beyond into various stronger forms (i.e Alpha Beowulf Ironwood fought).

EDIT: New Chibi is out.

The Grimm aren't extremely deadly to Huntsmen. What are the main characters? Huntsmen or Huntsmen in training.

No shit the Grimm aren't scary, we're looking at the series from people who train to kill them.

Were still in training...while killing them, not so good an initial showing. It's fine though, the hunters are terrible at hoard battles.

But that's kinda the point. If you want the monsters to seem threatening, make them at least somewhat of a threat even to those who fight them, at least when they aren't fully trained adults. The giant Nevermore and Deathstalker seemed legitimately threatening until Coco and her team obliterated a few of them with little effort, and that was where a lot of the hype for Grimm fell away as they just never measured up. I'm hoping the justification will simply be that the Grimm farther from the cities are weaker, and the Grimm team RNJR encounters in transit prove legitimately threatening.
