And yet:
The library, combat class, Vytal festival sparring, the tournament, the meeting before Mountain Glenn, getting ready for the dance, all in-school. Ignoring those, we see most other students who aren't currently fighting in the tournament wearing their uniforms. Team RWBY doesn't wear theirs. Only Weiss and Yang were moving up in the tournament, and then it was just Yang.

I'M MR. MEESEEKS, LOOK AT ME!That's kinda pointless, changing into uniforms during the tournament.
Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice.Forget uniforms, I was more confused as to why with an audience consisting almost entirely of trainee monster killers, when the monsters broke in everyone but the established characters paniced like random civilians, hudding in shelters and crying and such.
Or the apparant lack of anyone from Beacon that's a senior student. CFVY is the only non first year team, and they were only 2nd years.
I get the feeling the school setting would have brought up more moments like this, so I guess they're probably glad they ditched it.
Maybe they all graduated and the school shut down for a while before getting some new students.
Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice. But look closely at everyone in the background after RWBY's fight.
A lot of people at the tournament (just about every background character there) are wearing uniforms except for the main characters. Why is that?
- They don't feel like it. Everyone else is though, we see Beacon students there.
- They were fighting in the arena, they didn't have to. Everyone else in the stands is except for JNPR and CMEN.
- Also, Ruby, Weiss, and Blake weren't in the later rounds of the tournament, and neither were Jaune, Nora, and Ren.
- They're not required. Everyone else in the stands is though indicating there's some school spirit/national pride going on, as implicated by Goodwitch and Weiss. Team CMEN wouldn't since they aren't actually Haven students. But why wouldn't Team RWBY and JNPR?
I mean the obvious answer is because it's the easiest to animate. They reuse frames for many of the characters anyway, so all they need to do is changed the heads around and their good. It's the same reason all the generic students are the exact same height.
The alternative is to do it Kingdom Hearts style and have nobody ever in the stands.
My only point is that I like the shadows better and that those made more sense to me than the way RWBY's used the detailed models. If the main characters wore their uniforms more than they'd feel more like a part of the setting and the detailed models would make sense. Instead they feel superimposed and the detailed models pointless, because despite illustrating a school setting, Team RWBY isn't a part of that setting except for some short classroom scenes. The detailed models don't matter.
And if they're not going to matter, they might as well be shadows and blots.
Or just have RWBY wear their uniforms to establish some consistency in those scenes. That's what I would change. It might even add some risk since they don't have the same holsters for weapons in their school clothes.
Annnnd... breaking the awkward silence.
Yang's Stand is giving her pervy looks.

Whoever thought RWBY and Jojo would go together is either genius or mad.
This joke is actually pretty cruel once you get it.
Though Speedwagon actually survived and he's the one who kept Zeppeli's hat.
"Look. No one ever said Ruby Rose was a nice girl.
◊ I beat the crap out of people, more than I have to. Some are even still in the hospital. I've had idiot teachers who like to talk big, so I taught them a lesson. If I go to a restaurant and the food's bad, I make it a policy to stiff'em with the bill. But even a bitch like me can spot true evil when she sees it. True evil is those who use the innocent for their own good and crush them underfoot. That's why - I will JUDGE YOU MYSELF!

I'M MR. MEESEEKS, LOOK AT ME!I'm curious as to how a JoJo: Stardust Crusaders/RWBY crossover would go.
Let the joy of love give you an answer! Check out my book!Do we know they were second years? It certainly isn't mentioned in the show so was it stated in an interview somewhere?
The difference between the tournament participants and the tournament audience? The only students I saw that were wearing uniform were students who were watching the fights. All the students who were actually tournament entrants didn't wear uniforms. I noticed during the episodes how it made it easier to spot the tournament fighters among the people who were just there to watch.
That pretty much fits with real life anyway. Back where I'm from, the kids who were watching their teams wore the uniforms and anyone who participating in the events - even if they were just reserve - were allowed to not wear uniform.
I really don't see anything strange about what we saw in these episodes (in terms of uniform versus non-uniform, anyway).
Same thing with library use. Library use is on the student's own time. They can wear whatever clothes they want as a result. Seeing a mixture of uniform or non-uniform is again not particularly strange.
And another example: free periods when kids can be off campus. Now, my school never permitted a change out of uniform (actually, didn't permit going off campus either) but I know other schools did, usually the separate sixth form colleges - so, again, seeing Team RWBY wandering around during the day in their combat uniforms while other students are hanging around in their uniform is again not particularly weird when compared to real life.
That's fine. Personally, I can't stand the shadow models and am glad they were removed. I am not bothered about repeated model use, probably because I grew up on so many shows where reused models were the norm, so it doesn't stand out to me. I notice it, obviously, but I don't care about it.
The shadow models, however.... that scene where Yang skips out on Ruby with a bunch of shadow friends and we watch them waltz off together down the boulevard is one of the worst scenes I've ever seen in the show. Shadow models in the background are one thing, but a detailed model interacting directly with the shadow models? No. Just no.
On another personal note, I do wish we'd seen far more classroom scenes than we got. Not just because I actually prefer the adult characters in this show to the child characters, but because the setting was a school. I accept that the timing (episode length and amount of episodes) means that it was sacrificed for other things, but it's something I do feel a little robbed of.

If my post doesn't mention a giant flying sperm whale with oversized teeth and lionfish fins for flippers, it just isn't worth reading. That sounds about right given what we know of them.
Let the joy of love give you an answer! Check out my book! Also Monty pretty much refused to ever consider Maya, because he basically worked like a machine. He had everything down to muscle memory and worked rapid fire without really paying attention to what his hands were doing at insane rates. He couldn't do that with anything other than Poser without having to unlearn and relearn and he'd have to do that every time a new version came out.
It's also why he kept using insanely outdated versions of Windows.
In short, Monty pretty much had a unique way or working that nobody but Shane (who wasn't nearly as good) could replicate.
With them gone, they pretty much had to upgrade.
When I saying Dot Hack Gu Trilogy movie, I meant that Volume 4 is looking more like this:
Proof that CGI anime can be awesome.
Right, Berserk (2016)?

Watch SymphogearI'm not sure anyone was saying it looked bad...
Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice.Thats what Im saying.
RWBY Volume 4 with its upgrade is looking more and more like that movie on a lower budget.
Its pretty cool that a small company like rooster teeth has finally caught up to that quality in terms of looks and animation.
Watch Symphogear![]()

There's plenty of proof that CGI anime can be awesome. Honestly, I'd say that's rather tame compared to the truly awesome stuff. Hell, I've seen CGI Western Animation pull off more impressive looking/awesome things.

Let the joy of love give you an answer! Check out my book!Um, Not from what I've seen.
Most CGI anime is still very janky and fake looking, almost on a more Dreamcast esque-look then a slick modern HD looking CG anime.
Only the Dot Hack GU trilogy and most of Cyber Connect 2's library is close to what I've seen of being "Legit" CGI anime.
RWBY being on that level with Volume 4 makes me a very happy camper, though.

Watch SymphogearThat quality shift is gonna be so jarring though...
Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice.Nah, I was expecting it for some time since Monty Oum is no longer able to keep a hold of the old engine anymore.
Since, well, you know.......
Watch SymphogearIt occurred to me.
Whatever happened with Yang's mysterious dream in the Volume 2 stinger? Yang has both of her arms in that dream. Plus the school isn't destroyed. Was it a dream? It had that dream-like quality to it, but it still could've been a flashforward.

I'M MR. MEESEEKS, LOOK AT ME!

A lot of screen-time on team RWBY in Season book 2 and 3...didn't take place during classes. It's fine.
