For a military made machine, I'm surprised that Penny wasn't EMP hardened/shielded. Then again, if Atlas hasn't dabbled in EMP generating devices... they probably wouldn't have known about the effects of an EMP on machinery.

What I want to know is what the hell those wires are made of that they managed to crush through Penny before breaking. You'd think that Atlas who whoever would has stress tested Penny against her wires just in case.

Also, I kinda question that illusion. Maybe it was just Pyrrha's mental state but the way those swords just materialized would be a little suspect to me. Even setting that aside, Pyrrha's Force Push not only knocking aside the blades but wrapping the wires just so around Penny and having enough force to tear through her seems rather... convenient.

Also, why didn't Pyrrha just magnet slam Penny before she (thought) she was about to get hit by (what she thought was) Unlimited Blade Works?

[up][up]My idea: drunk scientists.

[up]Pyrrha probably wasn't thinking straight due to stress.

[up][up] Because she didn't know she was made of metal and it didn't look like there was that much metal on her.

Better yet, why didn't Pyrrha's Magnet Slam also push Penny back?

In retrospect, nothing about that sequence makes any sort of sense.

Pyrrha didn't know Penny was a machine so why would she try to magnet her when she's seemingly just wearing a cloth outfit?

Likewise Penny probably wasn't EMP shielded because they didn't expect her to ever run into a magnetic power strong enough to be a problem. Remember Pyrrha's magnetic power was a little known secret that she kept under wraps but being subtle about it.

In fact Penny's whole death kind of factors into the whole secrets being bad thing. Ruby for once kept her mouth shut and kept Penny being a secret from everyone, even WBY and JNPR. Not only would they not have cared, but Pyrrha would have known better than to use her magnetic ability on her.

Likewise if Pyrrha had been more public about her power Penny or Ironwood would have forfieted because they would have known of the danger. Instead everyone went in blind and a disaster happened.

Was Pyrrha's semblance a secret? I was under the impression people knew what it did but were largely unaware of how powerful it was because she was rarely overt about using it.

She certainly wasn't hiding it during the food fight at the beginning of season two

It was a secret. RWBY and JNPR knew about it which is why she used it so openly in the foodfight, but it was not widely known. Cinder only found out because Mercury fought her in training and noticed his legs getting moved forcibly.

What still gets me is that Penny's bisection somehow "killed" her, when there was no damage to her head. She has less durability than a Cyborg made with 1940's Nazi technology.

A corpse should be left well enough alone...

I reiterate: Why didn't Pyrrha's Magnet Slam also push Penny back? Knowledge of who's what or who can do what wouldn't have changed this.

@Emperordaein: Yeah, I was totally expecting a black knight esque limbless Penny being carried around by Ruby. Unfortunately that was not to be. As far as it killing her, believe it or not, believe it or not, most parts of a machine will not work if they are disconnected from power.

Nobody being forced to reveal Semblances (at least to the organizers) or apparently not having entrants take physicals (when cybernetic enhancements are a thing) was incredibly dumb. That's shit that should be known for safety reasons.

Honestly, the fact that Penny wasn't galvanized was odd to be honest. You'd expect someone like her to be, especially since she's basically walking military-grade hardware.

What I want to know is what the hell those wires are made of that they managed to crush through Penny before breaking. You'd think that Atlas who whoever would has stress tested Penny against her wires just in case.
You'd be surprised at the tensile strength of some type of metal wiring. If they were say, a titanium/tungsten carbide.... yeah.

[up]Yeah, I agree. Though to be honest, even if they did, I doubt Ironwood would have been able to pull strings (heh) to make it so that Penny didn't. Also, even if there were physicals and people knew about the prosthetics, what happened with Mercury and Yang still would have caused a massive shock.

You know, I really don't understand how Emerald's illusion powers work. What Yang thought was happening and what actually happened were completely different. Was she actually being locked in a dream while being controlled or something?

Did you see the flashback episode?

Emerald makes the person she uses her Semblance on see something that isn't happening at all. However, some outside forces can cause the illusion to be seen through

When she gave Yang that illusion, she placed the Merc farther away...

The only conflicting thing there seemed to be his positioning.

Ironwood is in a position of power where forging/forgoing a physical examination for Penny would probably be very easy. This also would help Cinder's case to show that Atlas is untrustworthy, since they would have been going so far as to lie instead of just being secretive.

She likely had Yang think Mercury had been knocked further away when he was still right next to her and then the illusion jump kicked her in a way that when she countered she'd hit the real ones leg, and then merged into the real Mercury so Yang wouldn't notice the illusion.

Or she could've cut the illusion the moment Yang looked away...it's really not going to concern anyone exactly how a guy writhes in pain on the ground when you're getting negative attention.

Sorry to come back to this after such a while:

I feel like Yang, Mercury, and Ironwood would be like one of those MasterCard commercials. One robotic arm: 120,000 Lien. Two robotic legs: 240,000 Lien. One robotic arm, a leg, a lung, a kidney, half a liver, sections of intestines, and however many other robotic organs: 3.5 million Lien. Vibrate function: Priceless

But I just remembered a thing one of my friends said as a joke in response to one of my OCsnote  was "So.... Does she say when explaining her many augs to RWBY and JNPR that her hands come with a vibrate setting?"

And after some thinking, I decided that she does, leading to a Spit Take from Weiss. Whether she's serious or not is to be determined. [lol]

To this day I don't understand why one would ask for a mechanical arm and not include a vibrate setting.
