Pyrrha jokes are just like Torchwick.

They are hard to swallow

Oh come on, no need to get all up in a flurry about Pyrrha biting the dust. Cinder's the one to blame for that happening.

She followed her heart...right into an arrow.

Empire ends with the Empire having crushed the rebel's main base, and taken over Cloud City, as well as frozen one of the heroes and given them to a bounty hunter, maimed Luke and showed that he's nowhere near ready to take on Dark Jedi like Vader and revealed that the bad guy is his father, his mentors were deciving him and his fight wasn't quite as clean cut as he thought it was because his main foe who was just a faceless evil guy he could hate without care is actually his father.

But despite Vader's efforts Luke and co get away and enough of the Rebellion escapes to fight another day, where as it could have ended forever if he took them all at Cloud City.

That's very similar to what happens in Vol 3. Heroes get wrecked, some die, the villains are shown to be more powerful than ever and the badass heroes weren't quite as up to snuff as they thought, their home is lost.

But the final stage of Cinder's plan, letting the dragon run lose on Vale which would have destroyed the place and prevented anyone from escaping, causing most of the heroes to die, was stopped. Dragon is frozen, Cinder has to leave early, and everyone still alive gets to escape to fight another day. Even Beacon is left salvagable if they can ever get the dragon out, leaving hope for it to be repaired and the CCT to be fixed (though I doubt they'll be able to go back to school after everything they've been through)

Most people overlook that because the dragon wasn't out 5 minutes and barely did anything, but that's the implications of what would happen if it wasn't frozen.

Yeah people need to stop taking it to heart about Pyrha's death, it's going to get unnecessarily heated soon.

I mean, it could be a metaphor (the way it's worded, granted), but I generally don't hear someone describe physical or emotional abuse as "self defense." That seemed to strongly indicate she was talking about the White Fang's changing agenda.

The red flag for me was her reference to her thought processes being changed - where she says she began to think he was right. I've seen how abuse can make people change their minds to think the abuser is being completely right about everything and if they disagree the fault is their mind set, not the abuser's. And this doesn't even have to apply to domestic abuse - bullying (school or work place) can have the same impact on people.

Her speech didn't make me automatically think this was domestic abuse, but it did make me think that there was bullying or grooming going on, both of which are serious problems in their own right.

Besides, in Volume 2, Adam told Cinder that he'd make the White Fang carry on following Cinder despite all the White Fang deaths that had apparently occurred in the tunnels, so Adam right there did not seem like a nice guy. It's one thing for him to be wanting to blow up humans in the Black Trailer upon us finding out that he's a White Fang terrorist and that's what the White Fang terrorists do, but that complete lack of concern for faunus? Red flag right there.

What I saw of him in Volume 3 made me wonder about how much he really cares for other faunus, too.

[up]This. This. This.

Thank you for being able to say what I wanted to, but couldn't because I can't talk well.

Also: I know how people say Roman's based on Alex DeLarge, but he also looks like the singer from Panic! at the Disco in the music video for I Write Sins, Not Tragedies

[down]Yes, actually. The problem is that the Yang arm/Pyrrha's dead jokes have been run into the ground and by and large, the FNDM hates them

[up][up][up]While I do agree with that being on the YMMV, clearly that's not the case since people are still making those jokes and not many people seem to be complaining about it.

Do other fandoms have to deal with a lot of fans making tasteless jokes about a character's death or a serious injury? I know sometimes people will poke fun at a narmy death or something, but usually when I hear people talking about Pyrrha's death or Yang's arm getting chopped off, no one seems to think either was all that narmy. And yet people still continue to constantly make jokes about both things.

[up][up][up] You should see the Bleach fandom. The author cuts off a lot of arms. A lot. It's practically a drinking game now.

Edited to add: I just checked the drinking game. There's no "practically" about it.

[up][up][up]Probably because not many people really make jokes about Torchwick dying.

While I do like Roman and am bummed out that he's Killed Off for Real, his death didn't really bother me that much.

[up]That I can understand being made fun of. Yang losing her arm is a good idea and was executed mostly well(Let's just hope the aftermath is done good and doesn't become Wangst). Kubo constantly having characters arms cut off feels excessive and narmy, so I can see why people would make jokes about it.

In my case, in complete rooting for the empire and I consider Adam maimed yang a crowing moment of awsome, even more consider that Yang winning have been reduce to "she used she semblence and beat the shit of the other guy" making her fight a "I win" botton(which why I also like Neo kicking the shit of her) also....well, Adam is fucking violent asshole and I enjoy him to much because of itcool

And I expect Yang to be angrier and more cinic, even chewing out Blake from running away and maybe even saying she dosent want anything close to her(a punch to the gut for bumblebee shippers) and Weiss being more introvert or withdraw

Outside of Roman, it's hard for me to "root for the empire" with RWBY since I don't really care that much about the villains. Cinder's a bland Smug Snake, Emerald and Mercury are just dicks, Adam is hard for me to take seriously, and Neo's too flat of a character for me to care for her right now. I've got no opinion on Salem either way beyond thinking she looks cool since we know very little about the character currently. I only really like Roman because he's the only villain that really stands out to me because he was entertaining to watch.

My problem is that I don't hate the villains for their actions or who they are or any of that, I hate the villains because they're not interesting characters. I should hate Cinder for her actions and what she has done, I shouldn't hate her because she's uninteresting to me.

Give it time. After a few seasons when the shock of Vol 3 has run off, people are used to the idea of Pyrrha being a prologue only sacrifice character and Yang being one arm short is an established part of her character rather than something that just happened two episodes ago the jokes will stop as people get used to it.

[up][up] I mostly agree on Cinder and Emmerald, but i do like Adam and Mercury.

Mostly because they kick ass, but probably because i don't take them seriously and that's the charm for me. Was it clear?

[up][up][up] At the moment, Cinder's barely anything more than a plot device, so it's understandable that she's viewed as such a bland villain. She is so far an extremely generic villain for the fantasy genre and her success has mostly been based almost solely on the fact that the Brotherhood didn't know how to identify the person they were looking for (and were arguing amongst themselves regarding the best way to handle things).

It's hard to have an opinion on her when so little is known and what little that is known is so vanilla.

[up]Agreed. And while I do like most of the villains' designs, Cinder's feels like she's the alternate palate for Lust from FMA. Plus her voice acting has been... Meh so far. Then again, this is a cosplayer's first role in a show and she's playing a Smug Snake villain.

Yeah there's really no good reason to root for the bad guys at this pointt (unless you just enjoy watching little girls get their lives broken in which case I must fight you for great justice). Even if the very much hinted plot of Ozpin and co not being as pure as they acted that's still no logical reason to go "Welp the good guys aren't perfect, better burn humanity to it's knees!"

In any story you should never find your audience rooting for the villain. If you do then you have failed as a story teller.

AJSthe2nd Since: Jan, 2015

I mean it's one thing to root for an antagonist in a show where both sides can be equally valid, or where the protagonist themself is evil like Death Note.

But I don't think RWBY is going to attempt that kind of deepness.
