Reminder: Disney Owns This Trope is a thing, and Games Workshop tried to copyright the term Space Marine.

Also: I think Monty's choice of using Huntsman/Huntress as opposed to Hunter was a conscious stylistic choice for something in-story.

SO WHAT? What, does anyone hold a copyright to the title "Hunter?" Because that seems highly damn unlikely.

Oh yes, it's a stylistic choice...and that somehow automatically make things good? Does using the word Hunter instead of Huntsman/Huntress hurt the themes or something?

For the record the Japanese dub of RWBY just uses Hunter in english as the only term.

[up][up]You need to calm down, seriously.

[up]I think that's just Japanese though. In Bloodborne and Monster Hunter the player characters are always referred to as "Hunters" (dunno if it's in English though)

Is kind of a slightly large deal over three words that mean the same thing.

It's just so goddamn annoying having to make such a distinction to begin with. It's doubly so when one read or write fanfiction. Also, here it's less of a deal, but man, in places like Deviant Art and tumblr, I've encountered way too many people who made a big deal out of that.

You are getting rather angry about something nobody would complain about you doing in a distinction from the show which is ultimately super miniscule. Yeah, the show calls them Huntsman and Huntresses, and if you wanted to call them Hunters, I don't think anyone would complain. You pretty much opened the discussion with a statement of opposition toward a point no one was arguing, and when others mentioned that the term is probably just used for a bit of flair in the story, you kinda started snapping at them.

Mind, the idea of the word being under copyright probably was silly, but then, it's still hardly a reason to snap at someone.

EDIT: Do you really get shit for using hunter? That seems so stupid, since flair in the show is fine, but hunter is simply easier in conversation.

I did find the distinction like blond and blonde, brunet/brunette really pointless too.

Kinda forgot what was the term for red haired people. Just the redhead, or was there a term for that?

@AJS: That's because Japanese only has a very small number of gendered nouns. That's one of the reasons why it's so easy to hide a character's gender in Japanese.

Yes, as do I since that's what you're supposed to do but most people don't know that.

Also, I take it that you absolutely despise langauges like Spanish where basically every noun is gendered.

You get literally nothing out of switching out Huntsman/Huntress to Hunter except make it almost painfully generic and remove a small fairy tale reference, which is kinda the premise of the show.

I imagine that at least with Spanish, the fact that all of them are gendered makes things less annoying. With this, it seems like the issue is that there is a perfectly good neutral alternative that is passed over in order to use two different gendered terms with seemingly no point.

[up]To be fair, while I don't really mind which term is used, it's really not an important enough thing to need to make a distinction about in general conversation. Like, if this weren't a discussion right now and we all were using the term we prefered out of Hunter and Hunstman/Huntress, I wouldn't have noticed.

[up]x7 Ginger refers to specific combination of a few physical traits. Specifically, it's about having orange/red hair and freckles, plus I think pale-ish skin.

Also, I too don't care for "bluenette". It just sounds dumb.

That's not fair. You get simplicity, at the very least. And some people prefer gender-neutral terms that should really be gender-neutral anyway.

I prefer Hunter, I think the choice to use Huntsman/Huntress was a bit clunky for the sake of a fairy tale reference. They could have easily used Hunter as a common term and occasionally use Huntsman to nod to the fairy tale.

"Bluenette" just sounds kind of funny for me. Because it's a dumb pun.
