Uni catGrimmdark and humor?
I don't think they have complementary writing matrixes.
Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice.
Clearly, you've never read the Ciaphas Cain series. Also: Orks in 40k are pure comedy gold but VERY Grimmdark
I don't really see much grimdark. I see derpy jokes, edgy jokes, grimm jokes, and the occasional dark joke however.
As far as the villains go, they're holding something back; it's not going to be as simple as "fuck humanity, just fuck them", except perhaps for Salem (assuming she's misleading her subordinates about her ultimate goal), and that's only if the theory about her being the only survivor of a genocide against her kind carried out by humans (particularly Ozpin) turns out to be true.
I fully expect that the moment the villains start losing, Our Resident Edge/Angst lords will burst into flames from the sheer positivity
Praise be to the absolute Queen
I am Pro-Zwei at heart, so i'm not full edge yet.
@Captain You forgot to mention the darkest jokes yet: Blake Jokes
I'll see myself out
Uni cat![]()
It did happen for a while.
That's only because instead of focusing on Black's fighting ability, they were focused on Yang's humorously dark descent.
Except they were super serious about it.

Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice. That may or may not be a good comparison.
But they've only just started the Dark Descent, so it's too soon to make a judgement call.
Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice. When godzilla in said film is used as the symbol of the Cold War and that usage of Nuclear weapons is bad, yeah, it is.
plus, the main theme is darker then anything in RWBY:
I don't know about just screw humanity because angst, but I think Salem's grand plan (or at least what Cinder and co think is her grand plan) is to topple the system keeping the ordinary people protected and making it a strict might makes right society, where if you're badass like they are you're king, and if your a weak normie you get crushed under their heel.
The idea being Mercury and Emerald (and presumably Cinder) are very powerful people (strongest in their age group really) but let terrible lives as kids regardless because of stuff their talent couldn't control, being born to an angry alcoholic and being born on the streets. And thus they don't think it's remotely fair that they suffered despite their strength yet tons of weaklings with barely any aura power who would be Grimm chow in normal circumstaces get happy perfect lives because the hunters are out there dying keeping them safe.
Hence why Mercury is amused watching the townspeople getting slaughtered helplessly. I expect they'll start pulling the join us card with Ruby and co soon too asking them why they're so eager to die for all these useless people, especially when it took such a small slip up to get them disillusioned with the hunters.
@Demon - What's your point? That's about as meaningful as saying that The Return of Godzilla ain't really all that edgy compared to The Pacific.

Continuously reading, studying, and (hopefully) growing.

Seriously, the grimdark in this thread is ridiculous and it's genuinely annoying.
