I want to see some shop with a sign that says NO FAUNUS ALLOWED, Unfortunate Implications be damned.

At this point, Vale being unusually tolerant is pretty much the only out they have for the failure of Show, Don't Tell for discrimination against the Faunus.
Seriously, the racism never made any sense; so just because there are people who are only different from you because they only have one animal trait on their entire body, that suddenly gives you the right to discriminate them just as much as America did with...practically every race at one point? Cosplayers and furries must be nonexistent in their world.
Let's see if you can get past my Beelzemon. Mephiles, WARP SHINKA!Also the average Faunus is superior to the average human, with night vision and animal senses and possibly even stuff like Tukson's claws and the like. With unlocked aura it effectively doesn't matter as it evens the playing field but you're average squishy citizen might be geniunely afraid of Faunus.
Also they're a minority, and as people have pointed out, racism rarely makes sense.

Racism has waxed and waned over the course of human history a great deal; it hasn't been a straight progression from absolute xenophobia to modern enlightened society; in ancient and medieval times, there was far more prejudice based on religion as opposed to national identity or race, though the limited mobility of people during that era probably had a lot to do with that.

Salem is the remnant of a previous movement of intolerance, due to looking like Grimm-spawn. As a result, her... uh... kind... were mostly wiped out.
As long as there are those willing to perpetuate the cycle of violence, there will be intolerance. The White Fang is probably not the first violent Faunus movement.
"to some extent both of those scenarios have come to pass in the actual show; Ruby rarely ever acts like she's in charge, and her team has only occasionally acted as a single cohesive unit; most of the time someone, usually Ruby, has wandered off on her own. Jaune on the other hand seemed to defer to Pyrrha for just about everything, and even his own team (Jaune included) seemed to look to Pyrrha as the actual leader."
That is more because the show focus in everyone else but ruby and because Phyrra is a btter fighter, but they also gave plentoyof evidence about how good they are as leader, in the emerald forest Jaune manage to move EVERYONE into a good plan and Ruby manage to kill the nevermore
"While Pyrrha would probably be fairly unimaginative and by-the-book sort of leader, that's oftentimes just what you need in terms of mid-level leaders; someone who takes the orders of their superiors and puts them into action with no questions asked or ulterior agendas of their own. Yang on the other hand wouldn't make for a spectacular leader, but of the four, she definitely would be the most able to get them to act as a cohesive unit. "
Yeah but as team they should work with their own, and they are better fighters than leaders, Phyrra is to shy and dosent see to work well with presion, Yang is reckless and agresive.both work well in combat but not as team,
I meant what you said work well with mos soldier but they are hunter, they need more than just follow orders
"My Name is Bolt, Bolt Crank and I dont care if you believe or not"Oh yeah I forgot to mention that. Unless you're working for Atlas (which is probably how they pick their leaders over there) Hunter's aren't army and have no orders beyond "Kill Grimm". You can literally just go off alone and do whatever the hell you want like Raven does so long as you don't commit any crimes. You can be drunk all day like Qrow is. So an trial by fire leader is probably not that big a deal. They aren't really training professional soldierly people but a bunch of guys that are gonna run around being mercenaries.
When do they stop being teammates?
It'll happen eventually.
