The True Final Boss will be the real Adam who's been stuck on the Moon. The one we've been seeing is actually an imposter.
@Sion: I'd say it's just as likely, given the current trajectory of the series, that by volume 9 we'll be in a gritty Cosmic Horror Story with pretty much every named character either dead, insane, or in a state where death would be a preferable outcome.
I'm joking. Mostly. Though if RWBY does end up Going Cosmic, I wouldn't be surprised if it ended up taking on some of the trappings of the Cosmic Horror sub-genre. Unless it goes full Madoka on us, I don't think it'd go all the way with the hopelessness and inevitability of humanity's destruction by forces of incomprehensible power, but I could definitely see some Lovecraft Lite.
The grimm are already Lovecraft Lite IMO
Yeah, this negativity is killing my eagerness to continue the series. The darkness is too bad for you darling

That'd be hilarious.

Honestly, not Asura, the other Blood Knight guy from that game though would be a cool mentor for Yang.
Also, Fasoman is right: RWBY is ALREADY Lovecraft Lite. Most of the horror for Lovecraft's characters comes from the sheer shock in seeing such alien creatures and experiences, which so drastically contrast their understanding of reality. However, the inhabitants of Remnant have a far, far broader view of reality than Victorian humans do. When your neighbor is a Cat Girl who can leave clones of herself, your other neighbor is able to telekinetically control things with funny gestures, and your school's headmaster could well be nigh-immortal, immensely powerful wizard, something from Lovecraft's mind doesn't stand out that much. Remnant is full of monsters that the denizens of Lovecraft's Mythos simply aren't any stranger than anything anyone's already seen in Remnant. Add to that the fact that killing such creatures is bog-standard, and Mythosian monsters lose yet more of their power. By the standards of a basic Lovecraft hero, a Huntsman engages in Did You Just Punch Out Cthulhu? every time he cuts down a Grimm.
So.... yeah. Lovecraft Lite is DEFINED by the Heroes being able to kick the shit out of the unknowable horrors.... which they've been doing since Volume 1 (hell, Ruby was doing it in her teaser trailer
)

Why are the Grimm Lovecraft Lite? They suck at killing humans (At least onscreen)
Random person: But what about Roman?
When are we going to see the Grimm with Tentacles then?

From the Main RWBY page:
- Lovecraft Lite: Bizarre, gibbering monsters of unknown origins and unknown motivations wage war on humanity, which are sequestered in four little pinpricks of safety, barely able to break out of this siege. What do we get out of this dark tale? Four Action Girls ready to stab the monsters in the face!
Yeah. The series is already Lovecraft Lite by the existence of the Grimm, and the fact that people can kill them.

If she's not the final boss, where would the true final boss live? On the moon?
Actually, that sounds like an awesome idea. Taking battles into space is always awesome.
