I died.
If it were female-on-female abuse, you'd have considerably less discomfort among the fanbase. Tumblr would be full of yuri pictures of the two of them.
I guess Male!Blake and Female!Adam would be Nevermore.
I'M MR. MEESEEKS, LOOK AT ME!I am sure that even if both were gender-swap there would still be an increase in the pairing popularity (hot dominatrix is a popular archetype). I think overall people have more trouble identifying a woman as an abuser. It have nothing to do with with Het Is Ew.
In fact, I really dislike this implication there is a significan't Het Is Ew tendency in the fandom. Two of the most popular pairings are het (Arkos and Renora). The real reason yuri is so popular is because of the prevalence of female characters plus the lack of relevant male characters. It shouldn't be a surprise pairings involving the main characters are big.
them let me said that better: there is het is ew element amount the idea of paring with main chararter because they all girls, Arkos and renora are secondary chararter and the only ones with actual soport in the show(also one of the burn and is implied Ren dosent feel the same), on the other hand just look Sun and Neptune, who have been criticized for been shallow boyfriends material to Blake and Weiss
Now a genderswap version of Blake and Adam....my issue is not how the fandom would react but how miles and kerry would write the scene, something I have seen lately that male abusers and female abusers behive diferent in ficcion: the former are more rought and despicable manner, just like Adam did, but female abuser are show as histerical and unstable women who have mood swings like Yuno gasai, so if that happen I could see people complain about adam chararterization serving only for male-blake angst.....
And as everyone have already said, people would be less forigiven to a male blake than a female one, even less consider the whole "Blake is useless" meme around and the fact she run from problems....yeah, the fandom would said male-blake is uselss piece of chararter and time and a "pussy" or a "faggot"....yeah.
"My Name is Bolt, Bolt Crank and I dont care if you believe or not"Assuming that was addressed to me, that's not what I'm talking about. I meant there'd be less alarm about Noir having an abusive mentor than Blake. Sad, but I would say likely. Walking Dead Lori and Rick Grimes, Naruto Sakura and Naruto, Dragonball Goku and Chichi, the list goes on.
That.
I'M MR. MEESEEKS, LOOK AT ME!
Actually I imagine backlash over the idea of why a female villian is portray as yandere instead of knight templar, focus only in how abusive it is to Noir....
That of course if the rest of the chararter are Genderswap, right now the most douchbag are Mercury and Adam, so people would complian about the unfortune implications.
"My Name is Bolt, Bolt Crank and I dont care if you believe or not"Well, they do feel like that. They are minor characters who give the impression to have be introduced with the sole reason to become a love interest for two of the main characters. I think that interpretation would be there regardless of their gender. Personally, I disagree with it. They have enough interaction with other people to not be Satellite Characters and have potential to grown on their own. But I don't think it is an unreasonable conclusion to draw, even if an incorrect one.
I honestly don't understand what you are saying.
Jaune suffer some of that already, yeah. Though, I guess in comparison to him male!Blake wouldn't feel as bad? Maybe?
That was an overall statement. I've seem this kind of implication being thrown around in this thread and elsewhere kind of a few times. The most constant ones were from people who are not around here anymore, though, I think.

I like Sun well enough, but I'm apathetic towards Neptune, Hopefully SSSN will get some actual presence in Vol 4/5/whenever RNJR gets to Haven.

That RWBY is all girl ensamble team, so is not strange that people would do yuri paring because they are somewhat strange in media, Arkos and renora are secondary chararter and one of them burn already, so there isnt any risk of let said, Ren Xweiss to said something, Lancaster on the other hand....
"Jaune suffer some of that already, yeah. Though, I guess in comparison to him male!Blake wouldn't feel as bad? Maybe?"
Actually it would be wost: I mean Jaune already look like modern shonen protagonist(skinny and weak, with a awsome and beutifull romantic interest who like him because he is kind to her....yeah) but so far Blake is part of the thing and already lost against torchwick and was reduce to fear wreck by Adam, Male-blake would be put in the same sack as Yuki,Shinji and other "weak" protagonist in anime today.
"My Name is Bolt, Bolt Crank and I dont care if you believe or not"![]()
Meh, Cinder is pretty much Obito and Salem=Yagura a this point, also Sasuke is MASSIVE base breaker in the series, and not surprising people call him a "emo bitch"
Granted much of my analysis come from Latine anime fandom(since RWBY draw a lot from Anime) who at despise with all my heart(in fact that is why Im in this forum in the first place, I enjoy a place when they dont call a protagonist "Faggot" every single 5 minutes)
oh fem-blake dosent have those issue, a Male blake would be forever marker as useless, for many having to look a chararter get stronger is a waste of time(not surprising many consider the already strong and cool chararter a esamble darkhorse)
I just read a post on a RWBY Facebook group theorizing that Adam is not based on the Beast from Beauty And The Beast like some (and the character page on this site) believe. He thinks he's based on Ferdinand the Bull from The Story of Ferdinand. Here's the post so you can figure out on your own whether his theory has any merit:
I believe he's based off Ferdinand the Bull from Spain.
Reasons:
- His posture and finesse is like a Spanish fencer, and his style of fighting is the form of a bull fighter, or matador; letting the bigger and more aggressive opponent advance and then slaying it in one or more fluid easy strikes as they charge or pass.
- Also like Ferdinand, his powers and aesthetic has to do with flowers, specifically a rose. And then there's the color red.
- Another side note, Ferdinand the Bull's based on Ferdinand II of Aragon who was in taboo (As far as i know) for his marriage to one ISABELLA of Spain... all to get power as he wanted to conquer continuously.
Take as you will.

Can't say I do.
Wasn't Qrow fairly well-received for a male character though?
