"but the main point is that when people of the same sex do the same things as people of a different sex towards someone, we the audience interpret it as non-romantic until we're hit over the head with it."
The context is diferent, Sun is just playfull there but he is introduce as love interest to Blake(in fact some feel that is all about him).
Also I have seen people using some behivor to said X chararter is gay, for example "a women is lonly and dosent hang out with men, she is clearly a lesbian!"(im looking to you elsa) which it can be fairly steriotypical
"My Name is Bolt, Bolt Crank and I dont care if you believe or not"Is Grimm Eclipse supposed to get an OC Villain in future updates? I've heard somebody mention that, but is it true?
A corpse should be left well enough alone...What unknownwing said.
That said, I admit that Yang has been showing more signs of possibly being bisexual despite initially showing that she preferred boys normally.
Also, I tend to severely dislike serious pairings that exist entirely for out-of-Universe reasons. "You two have to have sex to advance my agenda." No!
Just going to point something out: Rooster Teeth doesn't *just* recognize Bumbleby; they actually support it.
- Barbara Dunkelman and Arryn Zech, Yang and Blake's V As, both have shipped Bumbleby since the days of Vol. 1. Arryn even has stated before that she doesn't think Sun or Adam are the right love interest for Blake as a character. Barb's support for the ship is actually rather infamous in the FNDM.
- Kerry Shawcross, the Head Director and Co-Writer of RWBY, apparently ships Bumbleby.
- Miles Luna, the Co-Director and Co-Writer of RWBY, likes to tease Bumbleby. May not necessarily ship it himself (we don't know for sure), but he recognizes it.
I have yet to see that sort of support within the company itself for Blake/Sun. Moreover, from a narrative perspective, I think Sun would have been the one to intervene with Blake's run-in with Adam (Blake's ex) if he were intended to be Blake's long-term love interest. Not only did that honor go to Yang, the show went out of its way to establish a personal comparison between Yang and Adam as individuals in Blake's eyes.
There's plenty more to look at in regards to the debate between Bumbleby and Black Sun, but I don't see anything that makes me believe Sun has a legitimate shot with Blake in the long game, if at all.
EDIT: As far as the debate of "Ships being canon as fan-service VS. Ships being canon through narrative" goes- I don't think Bumbleby is a case of pure fan-service. I don't know if it was the original idea that Monty had in mind, but even he seemed to be considering it positively after the show launched before his death. It could absolutely be that he, Miles and Kerry took another look at the story they had planned and saw that Bumbleby as a romance actually complimented their general plans really well and decided to go for it as a long game romance.
If this were just a case of trying to pander to the fans, White Rose would be a serious pairing in the narrative, as opposed to the blatant Br OTP that it has been established to be.

Just a friendly reminder, Miles apparently shipped Arkos yet look at what happened in the end. Yeah....
If the creators like certain ship, that doesn't mean is 100% likely to happen. At least i will give them the benefit of the doubt first, cause i think they can develop naturally if the card are played right
Uni catAnd then bumblebee will be canon for 5 minutes too, before Yang sacrifices herself to kill (insert the final boss Grimm of the story)
Uni cat
Ruby is also a distinct possibility at the very end by way of Heroic Sacrifice. The Hero Dies is one of the oldest tropes in the book after all.
You know, its funny you bring up Miles having to follow Monty's vision, because I've been noticing a disturbing trend on tumblr and other media sites where more and more people are claiming we shouldn't criticize Pyrrha's (apparent) death and such because "it was Monty's vision".
Needless to say, I really disagree with that. Monty was an amazing man and was a personal inspiration to me, but that doesn't mean he was perfect. No one is. Just because the original author is gone doesn't mean we shouldn't be allowed to criticize his work.
That's a good point. I personally don't think any of Team RWBY is going to die, but your point on Ruby is a very notable possibility.
As for Arkos, I'm pretty sure that Jaune's going to die at some point before the show ends and thus join Pyrrha in death.

Eh, I'm kinda skeptical about that; the main justification is that his legendary counterpart died, but that's true for like all of the original stories for both team RWBY and JNPR (It's definitely the case for Ruby and Yang and all of JNPR), and I seriously doubt they're going to pull a Kill Em All.

Anyway.
How would things have gone if Yang was replaced with one of the following?:
- Ruby
- Weiss
- Sun
- any others of your choice
Personally, I think Weiss might be able to bail out Blake with the lowest amount of injuries, what with just using a row of Glyphs to move Blake to safety. Or however it is that those Glyphs work.
Ruby may or may not go Silver Eyes, but it's effects on non-Grimm are currently unknown. Her speed, however, gets the Worf treatment.
Any attempt to directly engage Adam would, however, no doubt end the same way for anyone on the list - crippled, or worse.
Did it never occur to Ironwood the possibility that Roman (and Neo) was the one who hijacked his ship? I mean, surely Ironwood would know which ship Roman was held in. Red flags should have gone up in his head the moment they lost communication with that ship and it started attacking the others.
So, Raven just fucked off and never came back while doing rogue missions, and Crow knows this. Did he ever tell Taiyang this bit of info?
Speaking of not believing a character's death, can anyone remind me if it was stated that they never found Summer's body, so there's a possibility that she may be alive?
Either way, being Taiyang is suffering. His first wife (assuming they were married) just abandoned him and their daughter and his brother-in-law knows where she is. Then his second wife also disappears and is presumed dead.
Speaking of suffering, I noticed Weiss hasn't had any this volume.
- Ruby realized she was deceived and betrayed by CME, and witnessed Pyrrha's death and the aftermath of Penny's
- Blake had a nasty encounter with her yandere ex-boss which led to Yang getting disarmed
- Yang got her name disgraced, lost her arm, and Blake ran off
As much as I like Weiss, I do demand equality.
What was in your right hand is hope; And in another hand is something else to fade.I don't believe a Kill Em All will happen. If Jaune is going to get a Mythological allusion, then i expect him to be burned badly and then turn into a Cyborg. Seems like a very fun idea
That, and if Robo-Pyrrha becomes a reality, Boom, there's my new ship
Hey, Weiss singing career is over after being burned by lava. There's your suffering
