I should frelling hope not!
As far as Taiyang goes...given Ruby learned her abilities from Qrow, Taiyang probably (I can't remember if it's ever been confirmed) fights like Yang. I have very, very little doubt the guy's a total badass in a fight. His daughters both are, he was part of a team consisting of a trio of incredible fighters.
Even his dog's a badass

@Phil: Before episode 11, there were plenty. Now...Not really, besides the occasion person who was butthurt about his canonical personality not lining up with the fanon. Also, nobody seems interested in my conjecture about how much time passed over the course of the 3 volumes.

It's the same issue with team RWBY, which was revealed more than a year (I think) before the show actually aired, resulting in people coming up with fanon personalities for them that were completely different from canon, ie Ruby as a stoic, solitary '90s Anti-Hero.

I think that only ~6 months have passed. It goes from the beginning of the school year (typically August) to the winter season (beginning December) which gives a 6 month window for it to have happened, which is fitting for how the story progressed.

A semester is generally half a year however, and volume 1 covered their first semester.

Honestly, I kinda get the feeling that Pyrrha was written as a Decoy Protagonist, despite the name of the series giving away who the real protagonist is, which is one of the reasons I maintain that naming the show RWBY was kinda a mistake.

I think they mentioned in Volume 2 they've been at Beacon for a semester, and since Volume 3 (barring the timeskip at the end and the Villain Episode Flashback) takes place over a week, so that makes sense as well.

Have you seen the World Map of Remnant
?
Beacon's right on the equator. So it could go either way

It's more that, when we first saw the red trailer, FNDM saw an Eerie Pale-Skinned Brunette wielding a Sinister Scythe with a Red and Black and Evil All Over color scheme and came to the conclusion that she was an Anti-Hero on that basis.

If Beacon was on the equator, Vale must either be at an extremely high elevation, because otherwise there wouldn't be winter, just a wet season/dry season.
