According to the RWBY subreddit's Shipping Sheet...

Jaune/Ren is Martial Arcs.
Pyrrha/Ren is Lotus Island.

Yeah. We're operating in a fandom with competing ship names.

...I did not help last night when I came up with alternative names for several Jaune ships, based on British warplanes.

In my defence, Jaune/Ruby is called "Lancaster".

I just realised something.

Team FNKY is a literal rave party if they have Neon.

Don't judge me for the randomness, I need to drown out the darkness-induced sadness from RWBY out with something. And since I don't drink, random lighthearted thoughts are the next best thing.

[up][up] It makes a certain degree of sense; House Lancaster was one of several English dynasties that held the throne of England during the 100 years war (which is the period in which Jean d'Arc lived), and was one of several contenders in the succession war known as the War of the Roses (on account of both the houses of York and Lancaster using roses in their heraldry).

I know. My mental word association just goes "Lancaster" "BOMBER".

Come to think of it, when was the last time all eight of them were together like that?

So is anyone else getting the feeling we're going to see a death/Face–Heel Turn from team RWBY at some point in the future? (perhaps volume 6 if each major arc lasts for 3 volumes)

That would reduce the main cast down to 6 characters, which is small enough for them to be treated as a single Cast Herd rather than two, a Five-Man Band + Sixth Ranger situation essentially.

The other options are just flat out Wiping Out JNPR, which will lose impact after each successive death, or getting a replacement (the oft suggested Penny 2.0 being the most common) for Pyrrha's position and going back to two main Cast Herds.

If there is anyone who could die or pull a heel face turn it's Yang. Blake maybe but Weiss and Ruby i doubt

[up] Or we could have the "double whammy" (aka the harvesting of Bumblebee teas) scenario wherein Yang turns evil and kills Blake as her Moral Event Horizon.

I could see Yang allying with Salem and Raven but she won't kill Blake. RWBY won't get that dark

If they like to Sink ships then this would be their perfect victim

But i already said it. Yang has to kill her 9 times to even work and people would get bored at death number 5 onwards

[up](x6) Well I think volume 6 will be when team RWBY fully reunited. So I guess a death can be used to soildify their resolve

I've been looking at the lyrics to Divide.

It's obviously Salem to Ozpin, but I'm getting two things from her:

  1. She's made the same mistake as Ironwood. She believes that Ozpin is determined to put his students into battle. The audience knows that Ozpin was hoping to completely avoid that. That's obviously a hope she's crushing, but she may not even be aware of that, given these lyrics. So, there's a hint here that she may not know Ozpin quite as a well as she thinks she does.
  2. Her plan seems linked to Bane's plan in The Dark Knight Rises: the idea that the most complete, soul-destroying defeat of a person - or the entire social order of humanity - rests in building up and then crushing hope. That seems to be her plan for Ozpin because she believes that's what he's doing to humanity.

My guess is that she is someone Ozpin once had faith in to help humanity. Her beliefs, her faith, her hope, were all crushed in the worst possible way, a completely soul-destroying way. When linking her appearance to the original Winter Maiden, and the old wizard's faith in the four sisters to go out with his powers to help humanity, there are two obvious questions to ask:

  1. If Maiden powers attract humans who want to capture or destroy the Maidens so that they can steal those powers for their own corrupt desires, when did this problem begin? Generations down the road? Hundreds of years down the road? Or with the four original Maidens themselves.
  2. If Maiden powers are being passed on when the current Maiden dies, what happened to the original four Maidens? Death by Grimm? Or by humanity? Or, in the Winter Maiden's case, was it a fate worse than death entirely?

I've had a theory ever since the Maidens were first mentioned that Ozpin's greatest mistake (if he's the wizard) was gifting his magic to the four sisters - that something intended to help humanity went horribly wrong and the gift ended up being a curse. Now that we've seen Salem, and given her close resemblance to the Winter Maiden, she could be the living embodiment of a legend that started out sweet and innocent, but ended up going horribly, horribly wrong.

If so, Ozpin - completely by accident - created her by giving her something that led, not to her destruction, but her becoming a complete anathema to the kind of person she was before she ever met him. Not only does she become a great threat to humanity, but she is the walking embodiment of Ozpin's greatest mistake - and, to punish Ozpin for that mistake, she will make the whole of Remnant pay for it. She doesn't even want Ozpin to die just yet - she wants him to learn just how much he has failed before he dies.

She wants to crush the hope in him the way the hope he created in her was crushed.

Anyway, that's my head canon.

If my post doesn't mention a giant flying sperm whale with oversized teeth and lionfish fins for flippers, it just isn't worth reading.

I don't think anyone else is dying. They said they plan to run it for a real long time (as in another decade at least), and there's no way they can go that long if they have as big a kill count as they did this season regularly.

Heck as it is I think it was way too soon to smash the foundations of the show like they did (3 seasons, they're still in their first year at Beacon, well if they ever go back to Beacon) and they'll have a real hard time doing anything like the dance or the food fight stuff again, after how real things got.
