That's because he wasn't able to live up to his responsibilities. Now he probably finally understands - truly understands - what's at stake if he doesn't.

If my post doesn't mention a giant flying sperm whale with oversized teeth and lionfish fins for flippers, it just isn't worth reading.I remember about the times people said Pyrrha was a Mary Sue. Do i laugh or do I cry?
Also, the denial is real

Well, she would be if she weren't doomed to die and wasn't so likable, there's a reason The Ace is an archetype that's prone to being sidelined or killed.
@Undying: The grimm invasion of vale is the biggest crisis our heroes have faced in their lives, people are going to die.

Gotta say, Ozpin going Star Platinum on Cinder's ass was immensely satisfying. Also, this
◊.
Welp, its cold, I'm home and had a very long boat/train ride to think about feelings and thoughts on the finale, so let's get it on.
- We finally get a glimpse of Ozpin's power and he gets offscreened, wonderful. At the very least, it appeared he was holding his own. How weird for Cinder not even acknowledge his fate after the fact.
- Pyrrha decides to fulfill her destiny of becoming a hero, but not before letting the man she loves knows how she feels. Its a gut-wrenching moment...especially since you can just feel the regret in Jaune's voice as he begs Ruby and Weiss to save her. That's the sound of someone who regrets not reciprocating sooner and who's too powerless to make any sort of difference.
- Pyrrha gives it her all, but its not enough and she falls; it takes more than just skill and strength to be a hero. Her death was designed to be as gut-punching as possible though, Jesus Christ. Shot through the heart and Cinder's to blame, and disintegrated. It wasn't even a death of a hero, just an insignificant life being snuffed out. Roman's speech rings hard now.
- Lol Dues Ex Machina. It had been so long since the first Volume, I had forgotten about that speech...eeeehhhh. Needs more elaboration.Silver Eyes is kinda "ok" so far.
- Taiyang, and you're not a cut out...good to know. Damn he's adorable. Kinda sad how he has to be Locked Out of the Loop about his children sorta. So his first love is dead, his second is rogue, his eldest daughter is depressed, and his younger daughter has left to parts unknown. Such a wonderful thing for a father.
- Speaking of Yang, damn girl. You've seen better days, need a hand? *bricked* sorry... Yea, I can understand her attitude. She only signed on being a huntress for the fun of it, and it only costed her an arm, her home at Beacon and her best friend abandoning her from her perspective, I wouldn't exactly be in high spirits either.
- Weiss and Blake and are Put on a Bus for the time being; the former being taken back by her father and the latter running off to parts unknown to protect her friends from Adam's wrath. On the bright side, we'll get to see more of Atlas now, and Blake will...do things I guess.
- Aww yea, Ruby isn't just gonna take this lying down. She's gonna take any answers she can get and move on with what's left of JNPR. Interested in seeing this new team dynamic. Onward to Haven.
- I forgot Jen Taylor had a character in this series, for second I thought it was Cortana talking to me. And she's.....creepy Grimm lady that I've never seen before.
So yea, this finale was a straight up Downer Ending but not to the point where was no hope whatsoever and leaves room open for the heroes to counterattack. This season really stepped it up in raising the stakes and the gradual escalating of it was appreciated. Now granted, I hope the heroes actually do something to inconvenience the villains because yea, Cinder being able to get away with literal murder and everything else without having to actually hinder the heroes is just straight up ''annoying"
So yea, I liked it. Oh yea, and RIP Arkhos; you sailed magnificently for 3 seasons. ;_;7
You seem upset, good. You're not supposed to be happy about this.

A lazy millennial who's good at what he does.Honestly, I'm really happy with the way RWBY is going. As much as it sucks to see some of my favorite characters die, this is turning into quite an interesting story, and is using the Anyone Can Die trope excellently. It gives weight to the characters' actions, and now I can't really feel secure in the safety of certain characters like I can in most other media with a similar premise like RWBY (anime).
This is definitely going to be a case of Earn Your Happy Ending, and has just the right amount of darkness I wanted to see in something like this in a really long time.

They'll need to kill a member of team RWBY before Anyone Can Die is truly in effect though. Or have something like the hypothesized Yang Face–Heel Turn happen.
Most people don't get a dignified death in the real world, and it seems like that's holding true here in RWBY.

He's been faced with the complete inability to save a person he was responsible for... and she was the person who believed in his ability to become a huntsman.
He's probably resolved himself to living up to her expectations to honour her.
