The Sue tropes are Flame Bait because they have no objective criteria whatsoever. They have no value as tools of criticism and they only cause arguments.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Whose to say Cinder "won" from the looks of it... Cinder needed the maiden powers just to be threat to Ozpin. Ozpin is the type of guy who'd throw a fight just to get something more important done.
Praise be to the absolute QueenWhat do we learned about Vol. 3? RWBY hates Gingers

Still, a Deus Ex Machina helping the villain?
This is just going too perfectly for Cinder. This extends beyond You Can't Thwart Stage One,Pragmatic Villainy and Genre Savvy into something entirely else.

So now that the Villians have gotten their beating in on the good guys the next two volumes should be building up to the heroes tearing down the villains... most likely ending in Cinder's definite defeat if not Salem's first big blow to her ego.
Bonus points if Cinder's defeat is a mirror to Her attack on Amber
Praise be to the absolute QueenWell, it looked like Ozpin v. Cinder was fairly even; she might have escaped after she, I dunno, buried him in the vault to cut him off her or something.
If she's not frozen, it's prolly because, hey, apparently her projectiles can phase through solid objects; maybe she can do that to herself? That, or she Fall Maiden'd and burned her way out.
Meanwhile, I've got two Madness Mantras running through my head, 'Keep Calm and Carry On' and 'Please don't be like Madoka'. Also, Taps is in there too...
At least Dr. Oobleck and Professor Port are O.K. I was worried about them after episode 10.
Also, Salem gave me Sauron vibes.

@Undying: We'll have to see where it goes before we can say whether or not this was a total victory for Cinder. My personal theory is that the flash from Ruby's power has at least temporarily blinded her if not burned out her eyes. Presumably she is found by Mercury and Emerald, who don't bother with killing Ruby because it would be a waste of time.
@Fergard: Or it could be because Ruby's power only effects Grimm; Qrow's story mentioned the gaze of silver eyes being capable of striking the Grimm down, there was no mention of how it might effect humans, if at all.

I have the weird suspicion that Salem is the Winter Maiden we saw in the WOR segment about the maidens.
For how she sounded about Ozpin, i think she wants to get back at him for...i don't know, Wizard things.
She also sounded like a scorned Ex-girlfriend for some reason ![]()

Uni catI'm guessing the reason that the fight wasn't finished is because Salem showed up and kidnapped Ozpin.
There's no way Ozpin would've lost to Cinder, especially since Pyrrha went toe-to-toe with Cinder and there's no way Pyrrha is that close to Ozpin's level.
It would also explain why Salem is shown talking to Ozpin like he's there, and why we didn't see the fight.

"There's not a girl alive who wouldn't be happy being called cute." ~Tamamo-no-Mae Salem was the original Winter Maiden and she had a strong romantic relationship with Ozpin (The Wizard). However, something really happened to her (Maybe she grew Drunk with Power) and Ozpin decided to Ditch her. Cue Salem creating the Grimm because she felt betrayed
I don't know, Salem gives me Yandere vibes for some reason
Uni catOzpin being kidnapped is a twist, I presume.
@Ice Ruby: Cinder probably wouldn't have reacted the way she reacted if it was Grimm-only, I think. Then again, she needed Smaugrimm for more death and destruction, so I guess that's a setback.

Makes sense. Ozpin was easily keeping up with her although that Smug Cinder Smile was present through most of the fight.

So one of my friends came up with a theory:
Blake will rejoin the White Fang in Volume 4. She'll beg Adam's forgiveness, and pretend to obey him, but in reality she'll be working to sabotage whatever it is the White Fang are going to do next. Then, at the last second, she'll reveal her true allegiance, betray the White Fang (again) and kill Adam.
