compering this stuff with the avengers isn a good idea, because a least the avenger know Loki is only playing with them and wants something, they just figure out what it is too late.

Also for undertale fans a little crossover element here: what soundtracks fit better with the chararters? Because if anything I would like to use Megalovania in the Cinder vs Ozpin.....

already said that i find similarities between Pyrrha and Undyne.

If Pyrrha is likely to die, it would be awesome if she went down like then Undying

Okay so according to the people watching the livestream, Torchwick and Penny are both confirmed dead and won't be coming back

I'm still not too sure on the latter being a permanent thing because well.... Penny is still a gynoid. A hyper-advanced one, but still repairable. I could see her being gone for a volume until the season finale having a She's Back though.

Still a bit salty at how anti-climatic and Deus ex Machina-y Roman's death was.

I wonder how was his original fate going to be?

Eaten by Grimm is a really anticlimatic way of killing a character.

And i won't believe Penny being dead until at least two volumes passes without her appearing

@Black Sun Nocturne: I saw the livestream and I'm not so confident in claiming that. The crew were very clear that they would not be discussing spoilers, and a couple of them (notably Barbara and Shannon) both had anecdotes where they'd been discussing the show with fans and went along with whatever the fans were speculating about the characters because they didn't want to (and can't) spoil anything.

If that's the attitude, then the crew are really only taking the stance of what's been revealed in the episodes to date. For instance someone (Barbara, I think) said "Can I talk about Adam's Semblance?" and the very blunt response was "No", so the subject was immediately dropped.

They appear to be dead in the episodes, and that's how the crew spoke of them. In Roman's case, I definitely do understand why people might conclude that he's definitely dead and not coming back because they were joking about his voice actor having a terrible year for his characters being killed off, but given that they are also so spoiler-conscious and kept talking in terms of only what's been revealed so far to fans, I'm not sure we can draw any safe conclusions about it.

Torchwick served his purpose with the plot, so he needed to go.

Though it could be possible they're lying about him being 100% dead, so who knows.

[up][up]Well, they didn't say he was 100% dead and never coming back. They did joke about him being eaten, but then they would, because that's precisely what the episode showed us.

Yes, they did talk about him having a good run given that his role ended up far exceeding the original intent, and that's the comment that I can see people latching onto when interpreting it as him definitely not coming back (and it definitely can be interpreted that way).

I'm just pointing out that it's definitely going to be about how fans interpret the livestream comments because they didn't 100% confirm it, given their conscientiousness about spoiling absolutely anything that hasn't yet appeared in an episode.

As for Penny...well it may feel a bit like cheating, but what if she stays dead but another Penny is built or something?

And I'm perfectly fine with Torchwick being dead. He was little more than a top class mook in the grand scheme of things, anyways.

[up] I don't think that's going to happen if they flat out stated she's dead and not coming back, but it wouldn't be incorrect to describe her as dead right now, which sounds like what they said.

What I'm getting at is that the particular Penny unit we've known is dead, but what if they make another? It technically wouldn't be Penny, from a certain point of view. I'm fine with her not coming back, but it's just a theory.

So, bottom line, the RWBY writers are Trolling Creators. Just like Masahiro Sakurai.

[up][up] Unless it's a deliberate Lying Creator (well, actually Jedi Truth) moment, I'm gonna say no. But from what others on the thread who bothered to watch the stream are saying, they never talked about characters coming back.

[up] They really need an explanation for why that's the case (probably aura) if they're going to do that. Which we'll presumably get when we meet Penny's creator. That said, at this point, I'm not sure they even said she wasn't coming back, nor did they specifically point out that she's dead, just mentioned it in passing.

If they really are permagone, I will not be happy. There's a lot of stuff you could do with a sapient gynoid, especially in a setting like Remnant, and Roman was easily the most entertaining of all the villains shown so far. Both were more enjoyable than some of the actual main characters, and permanently offing them doesn't sit well with me.

...heh. Anyone remember when I hated Penny? Man, that was, like, Volume 1 stuff there. Go figure.

#26373: Feb 12th 2016 at 5:54:09 PM

[up][up]That's the best thing to do.

No harm in speculating though. smile

One thing I did notice in the livestream: when Lindsey asked Shannon, Jen and Nora's voice actress what their favourite Volume 3 moments were (in terms of their voice acting scenes), Jen started talking about Pyrrha's heavy moments and started to say something about one of her favourite scenes but paused before she got anywhere, and the others seem to pick up quickly on what she'd been about to say because she suddenly added that may be she can't talk about that yet and everyone agreed.

Since there's only one episode left, the moment she's thinking of must be in that episode because she'd be allowed to talk about Pyrrha's moments in all the other episodes.

[up][up] With Roman though, it becomes increasingly hard to justify bringing him back the longer he's been gone for, and honestly, the only good opening for that would be to have him show up in The Stinger ala Pacific Rim, which isn't likely to happen at this point. Penny being a robot means she (or a copy of her indistinguishable to an outside observer, depending on your point of view) can be rebuilt from scratch if the writers want.

[up] Is the livestream/a recording of it around anywhere? I want to check out the discussion about apparently dead characters myself. Failing that, can you expand on the context in which that was mentioned?
