Her behavioural changes didn't, however. Her aggressively presumptive and judgemental attitude kicked off after she lost her arm and still hasn't been resolved. Volume 9 was the first time we saw more of Yang's pre-trauma personality peeking out compared to how she's been for Volumes 5-8.

If my post doesn't mention a giant flying sperm whale with oversized teeth and lionfish fins for flippers, it just isn't worth reading.

Im surprise they didnt solve that before yang finally update their relationship. I guess if yang will deal with that eventually.

The thing about racism is that even if a work is light hearted and idealistic it's the kind of thing that needs to be treated with seriousness. Lucifer is VERY silly and camp at times, but when they touched down on racism in seasons 4 and 6 they treated it with the requisite seriousness it required (See this scene; it's very unpleasant to watch but it's also fairly accurate in a lot of ways.)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HlBBgdjHuB4&t=75s

Another problem was that the writers had a VERY sheltered view on racial relations and the nature of systemic racism for a long time. To be fair they were hardly alone in this (Donald Trump's election and the outpouring of bile and prejudice in the aftermath was a very harsh wakeup call for a lot of sheltered liberals). It kinda forced people to realize that no, racists will just double down if you point out their prejudices and often they need to be very forcibly shown the uglier side of their prejudices and why their views are wrong, and that racism is more than just a few bad individuals but a systemic problem.

Weiss's very quick overcoming her prejudice, the fact that the SDC's atrocities aren't really dwelt upon, and the portrayal of racism as an individual problem are all remnants of that mentality. It's telling to me that the seasons produced AFTER all that happened have been somewhat more intelligent on how the topic was handled.

Does anyone know what DC media should be added to them?

Probably ComicBook.RWBY Justice League since they're both crossovers between the same franchises (albeit in different mediums and different interpretations of the League, along with a very different plot).

The videos are not from RWBY/Justice League, which is an entirely separate crossover.

[up] Good point. I was responding to a post where Wyld asked what DC media should be listed as a source, given that the original RWBY series was listed as a media source for the video examples taken from the film. Two other possibilities I thought of were Creator.DC Comics (which I felt was too broad) and ComicBook.Justice League Of America (since the film is specifically a crossover with the Justice League).

I want to go to Tonio's.

Justice League of America is so ridiculously obvious that I'm not sure how I didn't mention it before.

Shall I ask for that one to be added? I notice that WesternAnimation.DC Animation exists, too.

I don't know my DC media sources, which is why I'm double-checking what the best options are.

There is also WesternAnimation.DC Universe Animated Original Movies, since the film is part of that lineup. So I wpuld either that of ComicBook.Justice League Of America.

Another problem was that the writers had a VERY sheltered view on racial relations and the nature of systemic racism for a long time.

I'd be careful with this. Two of the creators (Monty and Miles) are POC, I don't think it's appropriate to be talking about what view they had on racial relations. They fumbled the writing of it, but I would attribute that to them wanting a lighter tone and not being able to satisfactory balance such a serious topic.

yeah a lot of this is inexisperience, monty clearly have poor skill as storyteller and miles and kerry clearly bite more they could chew.

[up][up]its more than possible for POC to have problematic views when it comes to systemic racism and discrimination.

while is isnt a very proper thing to speculate on anybody's "true feelings" on these topics, it is reasonable to express that the work they created has incredibly problematic elements that express a complete misunderstanding of discrimination, both systemically and socially.

I do think atleast, that Weiss' arc was not really part of those problems. I do think her working on her racism could have been given a little more focus, but I think it not taking too long for her to change is not really a problem. A single instance of a teenage girl being willing to change fairly quickly after a wake-up call is not really that unrealistic.

[up][up]It still comes across as someone telling two minorities that they don't understand racism, which is a pretty yikes comment. Miles is Mexican-American who grew up in Texas, I'm pretty sure he has a pretty good idea of what racism looks like. Ditto Monty.

Like, Miles has chalked up the failings of the racism subplot as being "two white guys" not being well equipped to handle it, but we should probably err away from getting into them being "sheltered" or other assumptions about their personal lives.

Growing up in Texas is definitely not a point in favor of knowing what racism looks like.

Especially when the racism plot is question is more specifically a civil rights plot, as it is couched almost entirely in the American civil rights movement.

Miles and Monty being POC doesn't inherently make them qualified to talk about that.

Hey who wants a different subject?

Sense RWBY has done crossovers before, what would be a good one in the future?

Might as well. Considering they've done literally everything else.

the issue is that taking to them just uber white folks who didnt write because they coudnt feel like guessing at best and kinda sorta circular logic(it is bad because they didnt get it and they didnt get because is bad).

But is clear that a) the writer were(and in many ways still are) very ameteurish in how they tell their stuff and also it was clear they make it a chararter drive story or have a very tigh plot. You can see in Adam in order to make them a hatesink have to pretty much discard his brand making the whole thing pointless.

Anyway about a crossover.....yeah TNNT would be good, funny thing I feel RWBY would go a lot better with marvel than DC, peter parken would fit very easy in RWB Yverse, specially jaune given their predilection in how fucking much the universe hate them

Sense RWBY has done crossovers before, what would be a good one in the future?

Its the kind that would never ever happen, but I'd like one with Symphogear because of how certain things the two have in common. tongue

Or even Magia Record because of how one of the main antagonists in the second story arc has a bunch of things in common with Salem, including seeing people with magic as superior to others and successfully brought a dead boyfriend back to life, and Oscar (having a voice in her head) so could be hilarious especially since she's the kind of person who would super piss off Cinder while having water based magic and the ability to transfer magic around temporarily.

A straight-up Persona crossover could work, judging from the character interactions in BBTAG.
