I'm willing to assume that they're an outlier at best. A lineage that somehow found their own magic based on the God of Light. Hence the ability to affect Grimm as they are creations of the God of Darkness.

I don't actually have any real thoughts on Maria's eyes. So I'm going for the Longshot odds!

She has one silver eye. And one normal one.

More than sure Maria is either a Maiden or has Silver Eyes. After that the Raven reveal and the lingering focus on Adam's mask, I'm suspicious of anyone who isn't showing their eyes.

So, taking bets on Maria's eye color! Taking all bets!

She's either the Winter Maiden or a Silver-Eyed Warrior. If she isn't either of them, she has a Semblance that allows her to analyse Auras and Souls — the powers of others, if you like.

This show is all about the eyes. And the eyes are what reveal the great powers we see in the setting. Blinding the eye might be akin to destroying the power.

However, it is a staple of both the fantasy genre and folklore that people with power linked to the eyes (usually seers) can drastically enhance the power and effectiveness of those abilities by blinding themselves. Removing physical sight enhances the mystical sight. Those who are blind from birth tend to have the greatest of these 'sight beyond sight' powers.

Now, judging by the opening credits, Maria looks like she's going to be critical to Ruby's silver eyes. So, I'm expecting Maria to either be a Silver Eyed Warrior, or to have a Semblance that can analyse the Auras/Souls/abilities of others. Either way, she's going to be the person who helps Ruby explore her power.

While I do want my theory about her and Penny proven right and have Maria be a Maiden, I feel that pulling another Maiden reveal so soon after Raven's would be a little too much. Not to mention, Maria seems very connected to Ruby in the opening and just about everywhere else she appears, so I'm placing my chips on the Silver Eyes.

Either that or they're going to throw an entirely new concept at us, but I doubt it.

The bigger question, to my mind, is what is Maria's inspiration. Pretty much every major character has some kind of fairy tale inspiration, and with Jinn now on the picture, I can't help but wonder what Maria is.

Thinking about it now, this episode had Red Riding Hood, Snow White, Beauty and Goldilocks having an argument with The Magician of Oz (who's sharing a body with genderbent Princess Ozma) and threatened the Scarecrow while in the company of genderbent Genie from the lamp, and meanwhile, Cinderella went to a spider queen to look for a bunch of children to murder. Weird.

Well, you should bear in mind that Princess Ozma went through a bit of gender bending in the actual novels, too. The Wizard hid her away by giving her to Mombi the witch, who transformed her into a boy called Tip. They lived in isolation in a forest for years until Tip joined Dorothy's quest. Tip had no idea he was really a girl or that he was Princess Ozma.

However, Princess Ozma was eventually transformed back into her true self and was able to reclaim the throne of Oz. The Wizard apologised to her and Ozma forgave him.

It's partly why I've speculated in the past that Salem was more likely to be an evil Princess Ozma than the Wicked Witch of the West — because she clearly doesn't forgive Ozpin for anything and her subordinates seem to have a protagonist-turned-evil theme: Cinder is an evil Cinderella, Adam is a reverse Beast (The Beast went from bad to good, but Adam's gone from good to bad), Hazel is an evil Hansel and I'm still suspicious that Emerald has some connection to Esmeralda from The Hunchback of Notre Dame.

As to Maria, I've mentioned that she might be connected to the Virgin of Guadaloupe, which is the patron saint of Mexico and has origins lying in both the Virgin Mary and the Aztec Mother Goddess, Tonantzin.

My biggest concern is the personal symbol we see on a shield behind Salem. It's two crescent arcs with a diamond shape over the top of it. We see that the current-day Salem has the same diamond shape in the crystals she wears in her hair and on her clothes, and which is also incorporated into her current personal symbol (and the same crystal shape was seen on the floor of Ozpin's office around the edges of the room). However, she's clearly dropped the twin crescent arcs.

Our familiarity with the twin crescent arcs comes from Jaune's shield. There's no diamond, but the similarity does jump out at me. Especially given the interest one of Salem's subordinates took in Jaune.

Better that way, it was awfull ship anyway.

the lovecraft: I will guess because season four and five they try to focus in taking slow and "the trip is important ans the place" kind of things.

Also, I just saw a couple of thing now.

I feel Watts is going to have a role this volume, in V3 it was Cinder, V4 was Tyrian and V5 was Hazel and since this is Atlas we are taking about.....I mean he apear in the "group" part.

[up]I know it was a joke, damn I forgot the emoticon.

I think also Qrow just kinda let the girl to take the decision, he try to argue for him but they shut up righ there, Qrow shared ozpin "let them do what they want" aproach to think in general.

Also a general musing I think Qrow drop is martini by is bad luck semblence, just saying.

I think is the first time we see Oz break is cool like that, it was.....something, that is for sure.

Also....the statue in the train station, nobody is going to commit on it? two dragons?.

And that one is none other than Tyrin, Salem biggest fanboy and you can almost said is true zelot.....

It is nice to be impatient for the next episode, I have to admit. It's been a long time since I've felt like that.

That said, please don't jinx it, Captain Capsase!

Also....the statue in the train station, nobody is going to commit on it? two dragons?.

I was going to, but I forgot. The question is whether it's two or one with a head at either end.

Either way, it's a dual motif, two dragon heads, looking in opposite directions but otherwise taking the same stance. One is black and one is gold, so I'm not sure it's about any Grimm because the colour scheme seems wrong for that. Nor is it ice-like as the Grimm statues in the Schnee mansion. So, it seems to be something else again. Black and gold suggests an almost chess-like opposition. Or perhaps instead of opposition, it's more like yin and yang. So... what? Sibling Yin-Yang? Light and Dark? Sun and Moon? Is it fighting or harmony?

They look like they're rising out of waves, just like the statue that leads to the Vault of the Spring Maiden... and that statue turned out to be Jinn, who is the Relic of Knowledge and who was created by the God of Light to bring knowledge to humanity. So are the dragon statues connected to Jinn's statue in some way?

Like Jinn's statue is there some relevance to the spot the statues stand in? Do they represent something in history or perhaps in Remnant legend (given that Remnant's fairy tales and legends seem to contain the clues to Remnant's secret history)?

The length of time the first episode spends lingering fully on them, however, suggests they're probably as important as Jinn's statue. They do interest me, but I'm not sure what to make of them. I do have quite a few questions about them as you can see.

Wow. Just got caught up and I have to say, we are just getting bombshell after bombshell after bombshell. I can honestly say that I am genuinely gripped by this new direction that the series has taken. Not something I expected to say after- if I recall- fandom consensus pegging the last two seasons as being quite lacking.

Here's hoping this trend holds.

And we got confirmation the God of Light created the Relic of Knowledge. Presumably they also created the Relic of Creation, as well.

Which leaves the Relics of Destruction and Choice from the God of Darkness. It's interesting that the one that Qrow (who I assume heard it phrased that way from Ozpin) called the most important one came from the evil brother.

Fingers crossed on that one.

Another thing in wondering is If They can keep up the long episodes, because I just finished watching 3 (no spoilers from these lips) and that was about 26 minutes. I don't remember how many episodes we are getting for volume 6 but if they keep this trend up then it's going to take a long while to binge watch everything.

Hi. I have never used a Forum before so I'm not sure if I'm supposed to discuss this here, but there seems to be a problem with the "wait until the episode is released to the public before troping" thing that was apparently agreed upon in this forum. Both the RWBY Nightmare Fuel and RWBY Tearjerker pages have examples from the newest episode even though they both say First Members see episodes 1 week before public release. As a courtesy, please do not list examples from them for 1 week until they have been released to the general public. Please only list examples from the episodes that have been released to the general public. For more information, please visit the RWBY Forum thread. right on their pages. So are those entries supposed to be there or not? Or can the Moments from the newest ep be posted and those warnings should not be there? I am a little confused. Should I leave them alone or hide them or what?

[up][up][up]It would be interesting if that was the case.

Originally, I was expecting to learn that Creation came from Light, Destruction from Darkness, with Knowledge and Choice being created together by both brothers.

However, if Light created Knowledge and Creation, it does stand to reason that two would come from each brother. Unless Light contributed two, Darkness created one, and they both created Choice together.

I still think the fact that there are two axes in Vale's motif means there's a dual aspect to Choice. If the two brothers created it together, that would explain why.

[up]Huh. I was the one who created that message, but I only put the message on the Character and Work pages. I left the Recap and Moments pages alone. At least I thought I did. Did I add them to the Moments pages by mistake? (Edited to add: No, it wasn't me who added the message to the moments pages.)

What did we agree on this thread? I thought it was just the character and work pages so that early episode watchers would at least still be able to trope somewhere without having to wait a week.

What do people think. Should the message be taken off the Moments pages or left on?

Cap:Pretty much so far, in volume 3 have flaws, the first half is awfull(being a tournemant arc have that) and so far it started good.

Also it seen the writer have taking critism into acounts, let see:

They have good idea of skiping information when needed and when is not, so now blake now what happen but Yang havent said Raven is the spring maiden(Im kinda wondering what she said to the team and even Qrow think she was saying the truth).

Adam is going to be in the field again(which means he more efective, as typical with their chararters, they are lone badasses for a reason) and back as direct foes it seen.

Ozpin is finally showing why he shoudnt be trusted as well, im still kinda wondering if Hazel sister really death is inocent as it seen.....

Rwby seen a little bit proactive this time and ask question...GOOD, KEPT THAT WAY.

So far, everything is intersting again.

Wyld: Also one little details I like that the two dragon are oriental dragon which it kinda made sense considering asia vein Mistral have.

Yes, I've noticed that Yang is very gung-ho about Ozpin keeping secrets, but she seems to be keeping Raven's from the rest of the group. I find that a little amusing.

[up][up](Wyldchyld) I think the warning should be removed, personally. Moments pages are meant for after you see the episode. That is why Spoilers Off is in effect for those pages in the first place.

Another edit: Nevermind, I found it. I was looking in the wrong place.[lol]

You've stated exactly why we weren't eager to add the message to the Moments pages at all. Same for the Recap pages. Personally, I'd be quite happy to see that message removed from the Moments pages it's been added to. It hasn't been added with consensus from the forum to the best of my knowledge.

Edited to add: Has anyone else been experiencing loss of words from sentences ever since we went over to the new website layout? I keep having words drop out of my text after I hit the Send button in forums, discussion pages and PM. It's weird and a little annoying.

[up] Yes, the Gods of Light and Darkness crossed my mind as well.

Jinn was originally troped on the Historical Page then was moved to the Kingdoms page (Mistral) and the was added to the Other page. Where is the best place to put her?

  • Historical Page is currently only for posthumous characters, historical characters or legends. Basically, back story characters that are not alive in the current story.
  • The Other Page is currently for franchise material, such as video games and the manga.
  • Kingdoms page: because of the problem with the Historical Page, I moved Jinn to the Kingdoms page on the grounds that the Relic of Knowledge is Mistral's responsibility and forms the logo of the Kingdom of Mistral. As a result, Jinn is the symbol of Mistral, so I placed her under the Kingdom of Mistral, in the 'other' category.

I completely forgot to ask earlier where the best place to put her would be? The only other place I could think of would be the Friends and Allies page, but I'm not sure it's correct to regard her as a friend or ally.
