@Talby

Doesn't sound like the LDP are standing up for what they really believe in though, unless they believe in putting white nationalists in parliament.

One Nation is pretty high on the Sex Party's preference ticket as well, above the Greens and Labor. Regardless, there's no rule saying you have to follow the preference ticket of whichever party you're voting for.

That article is not entirely accurate. According to this, PUP preferenced the Greens above the major parties. Which is very odd considering they preferenced right-winger minor parties first.

[up]How does that contradict the article?

Anyway, re the LDP, to me a party that has Stop The Greens, Shooters & Fishers and One Nation as its top ten preferences clearly has priorities quite similar to the US Republican Party.

This:

The Palmer United Party, Katter's Australian Party, the Carers Alliance and Christian Democrats have allocated preferences to the Coalition while Ms Hanson is splitting her preferences between the Liberals and Labor.

Unless they are talking about Coalition and Labor, which is slightly misleading considering that some parties are preferencing both before the Greens.

[up]From what I can see in that link, PUP has put the Libs at 13-18 while the Greens are at 47-52 in preference order. So they preferenced the Libs far ahead of the Greens.

Did anyone else watch Q&A last night? Rudd defended his change of stance on gay marriage quite well and also vowed to increase welfare payments for single parents, which is an issue quite important to me; it was never easy for my mother with three kids in the house, I tell you what.

Rudd defended his change of stance on gay marriage

Can't say I agree with his stance on welfare for single parents, but it's not a major issue.

I'm hoping for another hung parliament though just to piss Tony Abbott off.

That guy should keep his mouth shut and his arrogance in check.

I think that's the best we can hope for, and that the Greens maintain their power in the Senate to really prevent Abbott from pulling a lot of the bullshit.

I have a feeling that the rest of the Liberals are going to rein in Abbott's crap anyway, especially with Malcolm Turnbull around.

I've still got a feeling that Labor is going to scrape through on this one.

The polls have been saying a lot but given how Murdoch and others have it in for Labor (and specifically their NBN plan) I'm not trusting the polls at the moment.

IIRC telephone polls only call home phones, which would preclude all the people who mainly use mobiles... i.e. everyone born after the Cuban Missile Crisis. That's gotta skew the results a little bit.

I just convinced my mother not to vote Liberal. It was the "Libs think boat people cause traffic jams on the M4" part that really got through to her. You'd think the media would be having a field day with everything the LNP has been saying.

There's even a list just for Tony Abbott alone.

Also, despite all of Labor's faults and instability, they do actually give a shit about people and communities and, usually at least, create policy that's informed by evidence instead of ideology.

This. Mother fluffing this.

Anyone checked out the ABC Political Compass?[1]

I'm left even to the Greens.

And my voting order would be Labour, Greens, Liberal

I've been trying to get #joesweaty to trend on Twitter alongside #auspol and #ausvotes. Anybody who just watched the LNP costings on ABC will get why I'm not calling him Joe Hockey anymore. From now on, dude's Joe Sweaty to me.

Because the Liberals have already shown how brilliant they are when it comes to the internet.
